Here is my full reaction to Easter Parade from 1948!

This movie was such a blast to watch! It's a feel good, fairytale that also has incredibly impressive dance numbers. Fred Astaire and Judy Garland shine together. It has a wonderfully dreamlike quality, yet there’s a playful silliness that makes it so enjoyable. The over-the-top costumes, dresses that perfectly match the dogs, quirky dances, and the delicious restaurant that no one eats at.

Speaking of springtime, Mrs. Jax and Lamby looking very elegant. A first time watch for me too. Easter Parade was such a delight and Mr. Fred Astaire he was great I could listen to him song all day. I loved this very much ❤️

Thanks Jax! I'm old enough to remember when Easter Bonnets and such were mainstream for Easter Sunday. As you noted, Judy Garland was not a hardcore dancer - Fred Astaire's most famous dance partner had to have been Ginger Rogers (notably in "Top Hat").

Thanks Jax, that was a very enjoyable movie! Pretty good for a girl born as Francis Ethel Gumm, although when I look at her, she looks more like a Frances Ethel than a Judy. Did you know that it was supposed to be Gene Kelly who costarred with her, but he hurt his ankle, so they asked Fred Astaire, who had been retired for 2 years already. This role revitalized his career. I thought the age difference between them was ridiculous. Judy was 26 & Fred was 48 at the time. I thought Judy looked particularly troubled in this movie, so I Googled it. She was. By the end of production, Garland was dangerously underweight and exhausted. Shortly after the film wrapped, she suffered a series of suicide attempts and was eventually checked into a sanitarium in 1949. And it said on the movie poster, "The Happiest Musical Ever Made!" Yikes.
