Here is my full reaction to Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein from 2025.

Wow, what a film! I'm new to the Frankenstein world so this was a fantastic introduction to the relationship between Victor and his creation. I'm so eager to real the book written by Mary Shelley now. My to be read list keeps getting longer with each movie based on a great book!

Oscar Isaac did a wonderful job of portraying a hyper obsessed doctor driven to madness while Jacob Elordi played an incredibly empathetic, yet still terrifying monster. I really love that this story questions what defines a monster vs a man.

Need to watch the original 1931 Frankenstein movie. Then follow up with Mel Brooks’s Young Frankenstein, the parody of it.

Adam Doyle

The book is good if you take it for a book written over 200 years ago. Still holds up in themes and tone, but some pacing and language may be difficult for readers used to more modern writing styles. "Mary Shelly's Frankenstein" (1994) is another good movie version with Kenneth Branagh, Robert DeNiro, and Helena Bonham Carter.

Phillip Arthur

Oscar Isaac played Dr. Victor Frankenstein as a theatrical, egocentric character with an energy del Toro described as "more Mick Jagger". This was so amazing!!! Fire a first time watching this gets 10 out of 10 great reaction, loved this so much Jax!!! ❤️❤️

Amazing movie i love it! Especially the part with blind Walder Frey. Side note, I noticed on Prime there's a movie called The Sheep Detectives and I immediately thought that's right up your alley! I'll watch it, if you do too!

I read the book many years ago and only read it once, but I think this is a much more faithful adaptation of the story than most others. This actually showed the Creature as an intelligent being. Other adaptations have him be very simple minded. It is not a long book, you could probably finish it in a day or 2 depending on how fast of a reader you are. I've been watching Euphoria at the suggestion of a friend of mine and it's a bad show, but the drama really does hook you. Because I loathe Jacob Elordi's character in that, it made me wonder if I'd be able to like him in anything else he was in, but he really gave a great performance in this. I've been critical of his acting in Euphoria, but I think you give him a talented director like he had with Del Toro and he actually showed his talent. Oh, and a fun little bit of meta commentary, when the Creature is reciting the Ozymandias poem, that poem was written by Percy Bysshe Shelley who was Mary Shelley's husband who of course wrote Frankenstein, so him reciting that poem was a fun little Easter egg!
