The way I see it is that Iron Will didn’t specifically give *bad* advice and that she should stand up for herself. But he didn’t give her healthy recommendations, he only taught her to yell and react instinctively.

I can relate to Fluttershy a lot in this episode. I’m nonbinary, but I was assigned female at birth, so I was raised a girl, and my parents often invalidated and encouraged me to suppress my emotions—how much gender plays into that, I’m not sure, but I definitely think it was a contributing factor. Therefore, a lot of times in my life, I would find myself cycling between the two extremes of having little to no emotions and being a people pleaser in one moment, and then, in the next moment, having extreme emotional reactions and being destructive when all my suppressed emotions boiled over. I’m still learning how to find a middle ground, which I have made progress in through therapy, but I’m definitely still in process.
