Stephanie and Ryan are based on an actual team from the first Amazing Race who had the same dynamic. But I think the Daters to Haters back to Daters arc would've hit better if they like... ever showed a positive side to their relationship, besides them being physically attracted to each other? If they had more moments like they did in this episode (that weren't undermined by them immediately fighting after!) I could see them being a well written couple.
