$10 iteration vote results at the bottom

I won’t lie. This release had us very nervous. SR7's said the day of the release "There's not much there but I think people will like it"

Let's go back to May, SR7 and I decided it was time to pivot. For almost ten years we kept saying we wanted to try new ideas. Every year we promised we’d make time. Every year the “right moment” never showed up. It felt like it would be another year with few wins, and even more misses.

There comes a moment you can keep pushing through the same path, or you can pivot. Hoping for a perfect window is a trap. You need to take any chance that presents itself.

There’s a draft post I wrote and never found the courage to post it, called “Technical Debt.” The point is simple. When you choose the fast and easy way all the time, you build up mistakes. That debt comes due later. The only way to avoid it is to pick the hard, long path more often. We have 10 years of fast easy decisions.

At the start of Project Evolution, I asked SR7 to do what we don't. Take the hard path, every time. We had so many calls where we caught ourselves saying, “Next time let’s do it easier.” But easier isn’t always better. Easier makes you average, easier piles on mistakes. We’re done with that.

We’re building systems now. Not the buzzword kind. A real playbook we can use again and again. The goal is small fun experiences that we can get out in a time frame people will be happy with.

We believe this niche of games is missing small, fun, interactive games we can actually finish. We want to make those. Little games that are tight, punchy, and a blast to play. Great entry points for new players to discover h-games, and help us form an identity as being the best cape shit creators on the planet.

Your feedback so far has been way better than we expected. Thank you.

Here’s the plan. Get Project Evolution to a solid 1.0. Then try this again and build BoB2, getting better along the way. Then another small game. And another. Over the next 10 years, we want to make 10 sharp, exciting games that push what a VN can be and define who Gunsmoke Games is.

And we want your fingerprints on all of them.

The only way we accomplish doing all this is with support from patrons, and their great feedback. Our release post has over 100 comments and we have carefully read them all. Project Evo is already better today because of all of you. There will be an exclusive SU sneak peek for all $10 patrons and higher on Sunday!

Thanks for riding with us.

Hey, when you’ve done the same thing for years, you’re gonna want to do something new just to keep things interesting. I get it. Does the new game need polish, yeah, but it’ll get there with time, it’s literally the first release

Ethan Spicer

The design of Project Evolution is really well done, hopefully it succeeds

Nick Christie

Thank you also for making great games! Plus, I hope the new project helps you immensely :)

Arkay

Super excited for the new project! Will we start getting asset packs for this new game as well?

ShadowWater

I will likely be saying goodbye then after so long. I liked the previous project because it was something building over a long period of time adding new layers to enjoy rather than these one offs most everyone else does and has always done

Haji_Bob

I'm curious and hopeful to see where this new project goes. I've quite liked what I've seen over the years and I can totally understand burn out when working the same project year after year. But I can also understand those who are disappointed by the change, as it's not necessarily the product they signed up to back. Regardless, I'm looking forward to what comes.

TorontoGoLo

I like the idea of "small interactive games". Letting something balloon past a certain point where it becomes too arduous to play through even once is certain to put off some people who would otherwise be interested, as well as trap content. Something smaller can be more dynamic and engaging, while exploring new ground. However... am I hearing this right? Project Evolution will only last a year?! I'm not devastated, but it's close. That feels way too short... but maybe I'm comparing this to SU too much. I'll wait and see how progress and content is paced before I decide to cry. In the mean time, you have my support and attention. Taking the hard path is worthy of respect, I hope you succeed.

gunsmokegames

To correct you Project Evolution: First Class will the first chapter. We have 2 other chapters loosely planned. Our idea was if this bombed it should still stand on it's own, and if popular we need to make sure we can expand it.

gunsmokegames

I totally agree, we understand that people will leave and we hoped we could keep some of them around.

gunsmokegames

Sorry to see you go, and maybe you can still pop in and watch as SU still gets attention. Personally, we don't see great examples of these small games done in an acceptable time frame. Sure there are one off projects that take years to finish. But little experiences are what we're after, and we feel that it's under served in the parody space.

Sage

Keep making great content. Im usually one who would rather just wait till games are free and pirated but I know that if no support happens great entertaining well drawn games like these will disappear. Keep on rocking

hank east

So the idea is to finish the game with 4 major updates, with Update 1. rogue and kitty. Update 2. storm and jean. Updates 3. 2 more. Update 4 2 more and and whatever side girls pop up along the way. Cause if that's the plan I fully plan on supporting the game through its life cycle

Mouseman

I loved the release

ShadowWater

I have a library of great little games and even moderate size games that I've gotten over the years of being a supporter on this site. So I don't believe this parody space is lacking small games. I'd say what you were seaming to do with SU is what the parody space needs more of. Rather than something small, something expansive that has several layers and mini game like segments; in SU the bordello, glamor slam, holding cells (would be great if there had been soft & hard breaking), henchwoman inclusion, the future potential upgrades would have presented for day time events gives replay-ability most games don't have. For smaller titles/fandoms the small games make sense but something as large as DC & Marval I feel needs more because of how many characters there are to pursue unlike ALAB or TLK (At least that's how I see things) (I don't like that most larger games I see are always 3d cgi)

gunsmokegames

No there will one more push for finalization of content for this chapter. We might add some more content if this is very popular later. But we designed this to stand on it's own. There are two other chapters loosely planned.

Crowsims

You guys were the first creators I supported way back at the beginning of SU. I'm a simple guy and you make great games and art. Ain't going nowhere, wanna see you guys grow to your full potential!

batman

I was wondering will you be posting your response to the feedback from evolution 0.01 I think if you want to be transparent about it being created by you with the players it’s important to talk about what you took from the feedback. For example a lot of people suggested a change to how the map menu for the mansion is done, maybe it’s impossible to fix or maybe it’s something you might not have time to get to or it’s something you are actively fixing, telling people these things don’t hurt you and only show how transparent you are going to be making players feel more involved. It also goes the other way maybe you don’t want any scenes where the mc has sex in let’s say the mall fountain but it’s highly requested you should say it’s not going to happen to not give them false hope or ignore them. I think what you’re doing is good reacting to players but I think it’s important to address all concerns to keep an open dialogue. I have faith in you guys x-23 please

gunsmokegames

We just had a vote at the $10 tier on what fix we will be posting on Patreon. Once they iterate on these fixes the $5.00 tier will give us the final feedback if they like them or we need to redo them. Next month you will have lots of opportunity to get involved!

TorontoGoLo

Emotional swings like this aren't good for my health. Thank you for correcting me, I've never been so glad to be wrong.

KiasyonSFM

BoB2 mention got me hyped. Excited to see where that game goes!

SPEEDJO WRLD

Sorry to bother you, and I hope you are well but, about : Project Evolution. Is this a lineary story? And about the Checklist in the game, when I click on of the characters, nothing happened. Is this normal? I like your games by the way, take care of yourselves and keep it up!

Thrawn No Connection

Honestly, I'm a lot more interested in these smaller games than in more of SU. SU seems really cool, but the way the content builds on itself honestly feels like there's way too much to get through to get to the new stuff, even with the cheats menu. I was going to get rid of my subscription, but if you're planning to make a lot more smaller games like Project Evo, then I'll stick around, because thats something I want to see. Maybe a Star Wars game by you guys?

Mikkel frost møller

i hope that we will be training the our powers soon especially the nullification one so we might get to have none comdum sex stuff with rouge

Notsukau

This approach sounds hopeful, because we might finally get BoB2 at some point! So Project Evolution: First Class, then BoB2, then additional chapters for Evo (if it hits right)?

Doll_Size_Girl

I don't follow or know the details of everything, but if this pivot you speak of is "you making Project Evo", then I am in full support. :3

Dan Green

I joined just for Project Evo. I have always been a fan of the art style for SU, but X-Men Evolution has always been peak for me. As far as I'm concerned, Project Evo is it, and I am hyped to see how you guys do with it. I see tons of potential, and I know you say it will be a shorter game, but I would love to see this become a rather extensive one since there are so many great characters and interactions you can pull from.
