Dragons in DnD are color coded for your convenience. If they are a regular colour like blue or red, they lean toward evil. If they're a metallic colour like silver or brass, they lean toward good. All dragons are vain, love treasure, and are calculating. They generally chase other dragons out of their own territory as having a competitor for all the treasure in the land is not acceptable. Scanlan's illusion fooling Krieg is pretty much down to him underestimating them, but the show sets up the audience to also underestimate them so it's an effective deception.
