We saw that girl at the end there among the crowd outside the meeting location too. There's a Planetes connection here. The Antarctic is home to research stations that are studying the psychology of small teams on long missions. I believe I mentioned this in one of the Planetes episodes, but one use for that research is how to put together a team for something like a manned Mars mission, which would take more than a year
