Check out "the straight story" (just a wholesome film based on a true story I think) and "Mulholland drive" (different), and "the elephant man" from 1980. A movie Mel Brook financed, uncredited, as they both where affraid m. Brooks name would summon crowd who expected a comedy, it's not, but it's based on a true story (really sad movie, as I can remember it) David lynch never stayed in the same lane, movie wise. Difficult to choose D.Lynch movies he is not like other directors, to say the least (he is the man behind "twin peaks").
