It’s not 100% my old-man technological ignorance this time, I swear! Or at least I don’t think it is. I wanted to have the vampire-killing weapon one as my lock screen, but I want to keep the background picture I have for the regular (non-lock) screen, and I don’t see a way to do that on my iPhone.

Used to be you could pick separate lock screen and background images, but maybe they changed that? It would have been a bad decision so I can see why they'd make it

Depends on your phone but you should be able to do it from your gallery too. Open the picture, there should be three dots or more options menu somewhere, then set up as wallpaper/lockscreen.
