Hey!  The past few weeks I've found myself becoming very distraught with the daily bullshit of making a webcomic in 2022. For example, my comic was growing every day for about 3 years on instagram. Then they started putting focus on video, and I've lost about 500 followers in the past few months. It's very frustrating.Granted, I don't want to be the type of person who just stares at the numbers. But with a webcomic, it's almost impossible to avoid. And coupled with some other career and personal stuff, it's become pretty draining on my mental health. So I'm going to post one more new comic this week to the world at large before going on a bit of a break. That being said, I will continue to post patreon exclusive stuff (monthly Q&As, and monthly exclusive comics).

I'm going to take the time to work on some long form graphic novel ideas I've had on the back burner, as well as working on some new comic ideas. Some will be standard The Other End stuff that you know and love, but I want to work with new formats and new styles as well (possibly even revamping and/or reintroducing some of the old cast). A big part of this break will just be figuring all this out, and deciding where I want to go creatively.

I'll try to post frequent updates on patreon, and if you have any questions, suggestions or whatever, please comment or send me a message

Take care of yourself first. we will be here when you return. The numbers have a drain on all us creatives and it's impossible to avoid them.

Felicia

Yeah, don’t run yourself ragged. I support you on Patreon because I like your work, not because I demand constant content.

Timmargh

Do what you have to do. We will be here.

Stairguy

Cool, you won't be any use to us if you burn out

My goal is to have my passion for the work outweigh how much I care about the numbers. Lately, that's been flipped, so I've gotta reorient myself and how I work

Neil Kohney

I feel like a monoculture. I need to introduce some creative companion crops, so the soil stays healthy, all that I might be harvested for delightful content for many years to come

It's funny, I have 19k followers on IG but it's only gone up a little bit in the last year or. Mostly because I don't care. In fact it irritates me that they're trying to curate my content. Like, I have 18k followers and I post something and get 300 likes.....makes sense. OR...is it people aren't seeing what I post 🤔. I know I certainly miss out on posts from guys I'm actually interested in all the time. It's really annoying. I got fed up with IG controlling the flow, it's not fun for me anymore

I was going through people I follow the other day, and there was so much great stuff that Instagram just never showed me. There were some accounts I follow that I thought stopped posting, but nope. I just wasn't shown any of their activity for the past year. And I'm sure it's the same way on twitter and facebook and everywhere. It's incredibly frustrating from every angle. And it overcomplicates questions that creators have to ask themselves. Like, is this post not doing well because it's not very good, or is it just not being seen? It's maddening

Stairguy

EXACTLY. That's what I'm talking about for you especially. Like I don't care from a business standpoint on mine. I just share stuff I think is interesting. But there's no possible way You could know what people actually like and don't. There's no way. I'll dm you 2 of my posts on IG and you'll see how ridiculous it is.

That means a lot! I try to be open about everything, without being too self-pitying or boring.... And I would never kill a drifter. I just grab em, harvest a few inessential organs, snip off some hair for a project I'm working on, and then send them on their way

Stan

Do what you gotta!

Neil Kohney

I will! (as long as what I gotta do is take a bunch of edibles and write the best damn Christmas themed graphic novel this beautiful world has ever seen)

Agree with all of these sentiments. I follow your art because it brings a lot of joy and laughter. Not because it’s constant content. Take care of yourself and know you still have folks cheering you on!
