Author's note: Hello everyone, I just wanted to apologize for not updating sooner or quicker. I've just been going through some financial situation currently and I am struggling to keep up with everything. I hope you can understand. I have a midterm exam on TUESDAY and I have to study 23 pathology topics. I'm trying my best to keep updating while I study.
Y/N's eyes fluttered open as she slowly drifted back to consciousness. Everything felt hazy and disjointed, as if she was swimming up from the depths of a deep, dark ocean. She blinked, trying to focus, trying to make sense of the blurry figures hovering above her.
Y/N blinked back tears as she looked up at her mother, her heart swelling with gratitude and love. Elizabeth's presence was a comforting balm, wrapping around her like a warm embrace in the cold, sterile hospital room.
"Mom," Y/N whispered, her voice thick with emotion.
"Look at you," Elizabeth said with a gentle smile, reaching out to brush a stray hair from Y/N's face. "I thought I wouldn't see those eyes ever again."
Y/N managed a weak smile, feeling the weight of the past few days heavy on her shoulders. "I'm sorry. To have put you through this" she said, her voice trembling.
Elizabeth's expression softened, her eyes filled with love and understanding. "Oh sweetheart, none of this is your fault," she said, her voice firm. "You're a fighter, just like your father.”
Y/N's eyes welled up with tears as she thought of her father, who had passed away when she was just a teenager. She missed him every day, especially in moments like these when she needed his strength and wisdom.
“Has Harry woken up? I just... I can't lose Harry, Mom," Y/N said, her voice breaking. "He's everything to me.”
“Not yet” Elizabeth wrapped her arms around her daughter, holding her close. "I know, honey," she whispered, her voice soothing. "But you have to stay strong for him now. He needs you more than ever.”
"How' is she?" Y/N inquired eagerly, her heart pounding with a mix of emotions. "I need to see her, to hold her in my arms."
"She's beautiful, darling. She looks just like you," Elizabeth assured her, her eyes reflecting the mixture of joy and sorrow she felt at the sight of her granddaughter. It was a moment she hadn't expected, but one she cherished deeply.
Y/N nodded, burying her face in her mother's shoulder as she cried. The weight of the situation pressed down on her, the fear and uncertainty of what the future held for Harry and their family overwhelming her.
"We'll get through this, Y/N," Elizabeth said, her voice filled with determination. "Together."
And in that moment, as they held each other in the dimly lit hospital room, Y/N felt a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness. She knew that no matter what happened, she had her mother by her side, and together they would weather this storm.
"Thank goodness you're awake!" Violet exclaimed with relief, entering Y/N's hospital room to find her nibbling on food. Y/N flashed a smile, finishing the bite in her mouth.
"I can imagine the chaos with those two," Y/N chuckled, embracing Violet warmly.
Elizabeth had phoned them all after the doctor's visit, giving them the good news.
"William and Michael should be here soon. They've been trying to sort out a few things at the office. I also brought you some comforts from home," Violet announced, unpacking items from the tote bag she carried.
“Thank you” Y/N smiled as she continued drinking her chicken noddle soup with rice. “I am going to meet her first before taking a shower and seeing Harry.”
“Allison is here. She wants to see you” Elizabeth announced as she came back with some more water for Y/N.
"Can I see her after I meet the baby?" Y/N cleared her throat. "I don't want to sound mean, but I need to meet her first before anything else."
"I'm sure she'll understand," Violet reassured her. "You haven't met your daughter yet."
Later that day, Y/N was wheeled into the NICU unit. Elizabeth walked close beside her. Y/N was nervous, her heart fluttering with a mix of excitement and apprehension. She had dreamt of this moment, of meeting her daughter for the first time. Y/N only wished that the circumstances were different, and that Harry could be by her side to share in this joy.
As they entered the unit, the air was filled with the soft hum of machines and the gentle murmur of nurses going about their duties. Y/N looked around, taking in the sight of tiny, delicate beings in incubators, each fighting their own battles.
Finally, they arrived at her daughter's incubator. Y/N's heart skipped a beat as she saw the tiny bundle wrapped in soft blankets, her daughter nestled within. The nurse carefully lifted the baby out and placed her in Y/N's arms.
Tears welled up in Y/N's eyes as she gazed down at her daughter's face for the first time. The baby's eyes were closed, her tiny fingers curled around Y/N's own. Y/N could hardly believe that this precious little life was hers.
"She's beautiful," Elizabeth whispered, her voice filled with emotion.
Y/N nodded, unable to speak as she pressed her lips gently against her daughter's forehead. A surge of love unlike anything she had ever felt washed over her. In that moment, nothing else mattered except the tiny miracle in her arms.
"Alessandra Styles," Y/N whispered, her voice filled with tenderness as she kissed her daughter's cheek. "You're named after your uncle, who never got to meet you but dreamt of you”
The soft glow of the NICU lights bathed the tiny room as Y/N held her daughter close, the weight of the moment settling over her like a warm embrace. Alessandra, her daughter, her precious gift amidst the storm of challenges that had engulfed their lives.
"You’ve got your father’s eyes," Y/N murmured, gazing into the peaceful face of her baby girl.
Tears of both joy and sorrow mingled on Y/N's cheeks as she spoke to Alessandra, pouring out her heart in whispers filled with love and longing. She wished with all her heart that Harry could be there, sharing in this moment, but she knew he was fighting his own battle for recovery.
Time seemed to stand still as Y/N held her daughter close, memorizing every tiny feature, every soft sigh and flutter of eyelashes. She knew that this was just the beginning of a lifetime of love and joy with her little girl.
After what felt like both an eternity and a fleeting moment, the nurse gently took the baby back to her incubator. Y/N watched with a mix of longing and hope as her daughter was settled back into her cozy nest.
“We’ll come back tomorrow” Elizabeth said, squeezing Y/N's hand in reassurance.
Y/N nodded, her heart feeling full yet heavy as she reluctantly let her daughter go. As they wheeled her out of the NICU, Y/N couldn't shake the feeling of overwhelming gratitude and love that filled her.
Back in her hospital room, Y/N couldn't wait to share the news with Harry. She longed to see his reaction, to witness the joy and love in his eyes as he met their daughter for the first time.
As Y/N was wheeled into her room, she spotted Allison waiting there, a familiar face in the midst of the unfamiliar hospital surroundings.
"Hey," Y/N greeted her with a warm smile as she settled into the bed. "It's been a while."
Allison returned the smile, though there was a hint of awkwardness in the air. "Hi. You look good," she said, trying to make light conversation.
Y/N chuckled softly, shaking her head. "As good as I can, considering I feel thoroughly deformed and will probably need more plastic surgery to fix my nose and cheeks."
Allison's smile faltered for a moment, and she reached out to gently touch Y/N's hand. "I'm sorry, Y/N. I should have been here more, especially after everything that's happened."
Y/N waved her off with a small shrug, trying to downplay the hurt she had felt at Allison's absence. "It's okay. I understand. We've all been through a lot.
"Have you named her?" Allison asked, her voice soft with curiosity. "How is she doing?"
Y/N smiled, a warm glow of pride filling her chest. "Alessandra," she revealed, watching as Allison's eyes shimmered with unshed tears. "She's doing well. The doctors say she'll be released from the NICU in two days, and then you'll all get a chance to meet her."
Allison nodded, a tender smile on her lips. "Alessandra... it's a beautiful name. I'm sure she's just as beautiful as her name."
Y/N's heart swelled with affection at Allison's words. "Thank you," she said, feeling a rush of gratitude for her friend's support. "I can't wait for you to meet her. She looks just like Harry"
Allison chuckled softly; her eyes bright with emotion. "I can't wait either. And I promise, I'll be here every step of the way. Anything you need, Y/N, just let me know."
Allison's smile disappeared at the mention of them.
“I told them, but…” She shrugged, her expression troubled. “You know how they are and how little they care about their kids.” Y/N couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy, even after all the turmoil with her own family. She couldn't imagine going through everything that had happened without the support of her mother.
“I’m sorry, Ally,” Y/N said softly, her heart aching for her friend.
"You have to see him. If there is anyone that can wake him up, it's you," Allison said urgently. "He needs to wake up, Y/N," she cried, her voice breaking. "I can’t lose him. Harry needs you to pull through.”
“I will”
Y/N took a deep breath as she stood outside the door of the ICU room where Harry was being kept. She hesitated for a moment, the gravity of the situation hitting her like a ton of bricks. She knew she had to be strong, for Harry, for Alessandra, but the sight of him connected to all those machines was a shock.
Taking another deep breath, she pushed open the door and stepped inside. The room was quiet except for the soft beeping of the machines monitoring Harry's vital signs. The sight of him lying there, so still and pale, made her heart ache.
Harry was hooked up to an array of machines—heart monitor, IV lines, a ventilator helping him breathe. Tubes ran in and out of his body, and wires connected him to various monitors. It was a jarring sight, seeing her vibrant and lively fiancé reduced to this state.
Tears welled up in Y/N's eyes as she approached the bed. She reached out a trembling hand to brush his hair back from his forehead, the familiar touch bringing a flood of emotions.
“Oh H” she whispered, her voice barely above a whisper. "Look what he did to you" She took in every detail of his face, the lines of worry and pain etched into his features. His usually lively green eyes were closed, his chest rising and falling rhythmically with the help of the ventilator.
Y/N pulled a chair closer to the bed and sat down, never taking her eyes off him. She reached out to hold his hand, the warmth of his skin a comfort to her.
"I love you" she murmured, her voice breaking with emotion.
She stayed by his side for what felt like hours, talking to him, telling him about Alessandra, about their plans for the future. She knew he couldn't hear her, but she needed to say the words out loud, to feel like she was doing something to help him.
As she sat there, the beeping of the machines seemed to fade into the background, replaced by the sound of her own heartbeat and the steady rise and fall of Harry's chest.
And in that moment, despite the uncertainty and fear that gripped her heart, Y/N felt a glimmer of hope. Hope that Harry would wake up, that they would get their happy ending after all.
"Please come back to me."
