“Please, let me talk to you,” Harry said to her as he approached while she was setting up her camping tent.

Y/N didn’t say anything, her silence speaking volumes as she continued working on the tent, avoiding his gaze.

Harry stood there for a moment, feeling the weight of her silence. He knew he had hurt her, but her refusal to even acknowledge him cut deep. Reluctantly, he stepped back, giving her the space she clearly needed.

As the sun began to set, casting a warm glow over the campsite, the group started to gather around the fire pit. Sarah and Mitch were busy preparing dinner, while James and Sebastian worked on getting the fire started.

Y/N joined them, her face betraying none of the turmoil she felt inside. She took a seat on one of the logs, staring into the flickering flames, trying to lose herself in the warmth and light.

Harry watched her from a distance, his heart heavy with regret. He wanted to find a way to fix things, but he knew it would take more than words to mend the rift between them.

As the evening wore on, the group chatted and laughed, slowly easing back into a sense of normalcy. Ivy, sensing the tension, kept her distance from Y/N, perhaps realizing the damage she had caused.

Eventually, the conversation turned to lighter topics, and the mood around the campfire lifted. Harry saw a chance and cautiously approached Y/N again, this time sitting down beside her without saying a word.

For a long moment, they sat in silence, the crackling of the fire filling the space between them. Finally, Harry spoke, his voice low and earnest. "I'm really sorry but it’s not what you think it was”

Y/N didn’t respond immediately, her eyes still fixed on the flames. She took a deep breath, the words she wanted to say tangled up inside her. Part of her wanted to forgive him, to believe in the sincerity of his apology. But the hurt and betrayal still lingered, making it hard to let go.

After a while, she turned to him, her eyes searching his face, her expression unreadable. “Then explain it to me,” she demanded, her voice barely above a whisper, yet carrying the weight of her hurt and confusion.

Harry took a deep breath, his heart pounding in his chest. He could feel the desperation in his own voice as he began to speak. “She was crying, Y/N. I didn’t know how to comfort her. I was just trying to help her,” he said, his words tumbling out in a rush. “There is nothing going on between us, I swear.”

Y/N’s eyes flickered with a mix of emotions—pain, doubt, and a glimmer of hope. She wanted to believe him, but the image of him holding Ivy’s hand was still fresh in her mind, a wound that hadn’t yet begun to heal.

“That’s your great explanation? She was crying? So you held her hand?” she asked, her voice cracking slightly, the pain evident in her tone. “Bullshit.”

Harry’s shoulders sagged, the guilt weighing heavily on him. “It’s the truth, Y/N.”

She shook her head, frustration and hurt mixing in her eyes. “I don’t believe you. You have this thing for her. She goes before anyone else.”

Harry felt a pang in his chest at her words, his frustration growing. “It’s not like that, Y/N. Ivy’s just a friend. I was only trying to be there for her.”

Y/N's eyes flashed with anger and disbelief. “But you weren't there for me! You left me to help her, without even telling me what was going on. How am I supposed to trust you after that?”

Harry ran a hand through his hair, feeling the weight of his mistakes. “I know I should have told you. I messed up, and I’m sorry. But there’s nothing going on between Ivy and me. You have to believe that.”

Y/N crossed her arms, taking a step back. “It’s not just about believing you, Harry. It’s about feeling like I matter to you. Right now, it feels like I’m second to Ivy.”

Harry’s eyes softened, and he stepped closer, trying to bridge the distance between them. “You’re not second to anyone, Y/N. You’re the most important person in my life. I’m so sorry I made you feel otherwise.”

Tears threatened to spill from Y/N’s eyes, but she held them back, not wanting to show how deeply his actions had hurt her. “I don’t know, Harry”.

Harry reached out to her, his heart aching with the desire to make things right. He gently took her hand, his thumb softly caressing the top of it, trying to convey his remorse through his touch.

“I am sorry” he said, his voice filled with earnest regret. “I promise I’ll do better. I’ll make it up to you.”

Y/N looked down at their joined hands, her emotions swirling. The warmth of his touch brought back memories of happier times, but the hurt was still fresh. She wanted to believe him, to trust in his promises, but doubt lingered in the back of her mind.

“I love you” Tears welled up in Y/N’s eyes, but she blinked them back, not wanting to break down. Harry’s eyes were filled with determination. “Just please, give me the chance to make things right.”

Y/N took a deep breath, nodding slowly.

Harry leaned in, his forehead gently touching hers. “I love you, Y/N. I truly do, with everything I have.” Harry’s heart swelled with a mixture of relief when she pecked his lips.

As they returned to the group around the campfire, the atmosphere had shifted. There was still tension, but there was also a sense of hope. The friends chatted and laughed, trying to bring back the lightness that had been missing.

“Should we go hiking tomorrow?” James called out, catching her eye.

Y/N, still feeling the weight of their earlier conversation but willing to engage in something positive, nodded. “I could use some fresh air”

Before James could react, Ivy jumped up from her seat with a dramatic flair. “Hiking? Seriously? That sounds so boring. There must be something more exciting to do around here.”

James looked taken aback, his enthusiasm momentarily dimming. “It’s supposed to be beautiful”.

Ivy rolled her eyes, clearly unimpressed. “Yeah, but it’s just walking. We could find something more fun or adventurous.”

Y/N’s expression hardened, her frustration evident. “Then maybe you should sit this one out. And let the rest enjoy it”.

Ivy’s eyes widened in surprise at Y/N’s sudden shift in tone. “I was just suggesting that we do something more fun, Y/N”.

“Well, maybe you should have considered that not everyone shares your idea of fun,” Y/N snapped back. “Hiking might not be your cup of tea, but for the rest of us is. So if you can’t get on board, maybe you should find your own way to entertain yourself”

The group fell silent, the tension between Y/N and Ivy palpable.

James and Sebastian exchanged knowing smiles, a spark of recognition in their eyes. They both understood that Y/N had revealed a side of herself she usually kept in check. This assertive, unapologetic demeanor had been a hallmark of her personality back in freshman year, a time when she was known for her directness and candor.

In those early days, Y/N was refreshingly blunt. She didn’t hesitate to voice her opinions or challenge others, even if it led to conflict or discomfort. Her fearless approach made her a strong presence in their group, someone who wasn’t afraid to confront issues head-on or say things others might shy away from. Her straightforwardness was both admired and, at times, daunting to those around her.

Over the years, Y/N had mellowed, becoming more measured and diplomatic. The intensity of her earlier personality had softened as she navigated the complexities of adult relationships and responsibilities. Yet, moments like this—when she was pushed too far—revealed glimpses of that earlier, more forthright version of herself.

Ivy’s face reddened with a blend of embarrassment and anger, but she chose to remain silent, especially as Harry stayed quiet, his expression unreadable.

James, sensing the need to move past the tension, offered a reassuring smile. “Perfect! It’s settled then. We’ll go hiking tomorrow morning. I’m sure it’ll be a lot of fun.”

As the tension began to dissipate, James and Sebastian seized the opportunity to lift everyone’s spirits. With a playful grin, James started sharing amusing stories from their childhood.

“Remember when Y/N convinced us to build that treehouse and promised it would be a piece of cake?” Sebastian chuckled, shaking his head. “It ended up collapsing while we were still inside. I had a cast on my arm for almost two months after that.”

James laughed and jumped in with a grin, “And let’s not forget, we were all covered in dirt and scratches, and Y/N ended up needing stitches!”

Y/N laughed, shaking her head and playfully scolding them. “Hey! You guys also wanted to build it! It wasn’t all my fault!”

Harry, clearly entertained by the stories, leaned in with a curious smile. “what did your parents say?”

Y/N’s laughter softened into a sheepish smile as she remembered. “Oh, they were… less than thrilled. James’s mom nearly had a heart attack when she saw us covered in scrapes and bruises. She was more concerned about us being safe than about the treehouse.”

Sebastian nodded in agreement, still smiling. “Yeah, I think they had to restrain her from launching a full-scale rescue operation every time we had a new idea.”

James grinned, adding, “And I’m pretty sure they banned us from using power tools for a while after that”.

The group laughed heartily, the warmth of their camaraderie filling the night air. As the stories continued, the campfire crackled softly, and the group’s laughter created a comforting backdrop against the darkening sky.

As the night wore on and the laughter began to wane, the group started to feel the weariness of the day catching up with them. The excitement of the hiking plan for the next day prompted everyone to head to their respective tents for some rest.

“Alright, folks, we’ve got an early start tomorrow,” James said with a yawn, stretching his arms. “I am really to sleep.”

One by one, the friends began to retire to their tents. Y/N, feeling a mixture of exhaustion and contentment from the evening’s camaraderie, made her way toward her camping tent. Just as she was about to slip inside, she was stopped by Ivy, who had followed her with a purposeful stride.

“Y/N, wait up,” Ivy said, her tone serious but tinged with irritation. “I don’t appreciate the way you spoke to me earlier. It was really bitchy.”

Y/N laughed bitterly, her eyes flashing with frustration. “Bitchy? Maybe. But I don’t appreciate you calling my boyfriend for emotional support when nothing’s wrong with you. And I definitely don’t appreciate you holding his hand like you’re his girlfriend.”

Ivy’s face flushed with a mix of anger and embarrassment. “That’s not fair. I was just trying to talk to him.”

“Trying to talk to him?” Y/N shot back, her voice edged with contempt. “It looked more like you were trying to get close to him. If you had a problem, you should have dealt with it without dragging him into it and crossing boundaries.”

Ivy looked taken aback, struggling to find a retort. “I didn’t mean to—”

“Didn’t mean to what?” Y/N interrupted, her voice rising. “Didn’t mean to make it obvious that you’re more interested in him than in solving your so-called issues? This isn’t just about your so-called need for support. It’s about respect. And right now, you’ve shown none.”

Ivy let out a cold, dismissive laugh, and in that moment, Y/N felt a jolt of realization. The façade had fallen away, and she was finally seeing Ivy for who she truly was.

“So what if I like him?” Ivy said with a smirk. “If it ever comes down to it, he’ll pick me. It’s only a matter of time before he sees that.”

Y/N’s eyes narrowed, her heart pounding with a mix of anger and determination. “You think you’ve got it all figured out, don’t you? Let me make something very clear: you have no idea what I’m capable of when it comes to the man I love. I suggest you tread carefully, Ivy. Because if you push me, you’ll find out just how far I’m willing to go to protect what’s mine.”

The intensity in Y/N’s voice left no room for misinterpretation. Ivy’s smirk faltered, and the air between them crackled with unresolved tension. Y/N’s words hung heavily in the night, a stark reminder of the depth of her feelings and the strength of her resolve.

With that, Y/N turned on her heel and entered her tent, leaving Ivy standing there, stunned and visibly shaken. The tension between them was palpable as Y/N’s door zipped shut, marking the end of their heated exchange.

He’s gonna screw up, I just know it. Ivy will beg him to stay back from the hike, when the group gets back he’ll look like he’s in a comprising position. I hope YN follows through on her threat.
