Author's note: Hello everyone! I hope you are all enjoying your weekend! I certainly am. I've been sleeping and studying! Last week was rough. I have tests and exams every two weeks. It's exhausting. I just keep reminding myself that I chose to study medicine. Therefore, I got to push through. I hope you all enjoy tonight's new chapter. We are introducing a new character. Her name is Ivy. Happy reading!

Here is the rewritten chapter. I kept the encounter with Ivy exactly as you described it, but I added more sensory details to the skiing scenes and sharpened the dialogue to make the tension between Y/N, Harry, and Ivy feel more realistic and charged.
The days blurred into a happy routine of powder and pine. Y/N and Harry spent their time carving through Aspen’s breathtaking landscapes, fully embracing the winter wonderland. One morning, they ventured out early, their laughter ringing through the crisp, thin air as they chased each other down the mountainside.
By early afternoon, their legs were burning in the best way possible. They decided to pull off at a mid-mountain lodge—a charming, timber-framed café perched on a ridge—to warm up and refuel.
They clumped inside, stomping snow off their boots. The air was thick with the smell of roasted coffee and wet wool. As they scanned for a seat, Y/N felt Harry stop abruptly beside her.
She looked up. His gaze had flickered toward a window table and stuck there. Following his line of sight, she saw a girl with striking, fire-red hair and a laugh that seemed to take up the whole room, chatting animatedly with a group of friends.
Y/N felt the shift immediately. The tension in Harry's shoulders, which had been loose and relaxed all morning, suddenly coiled tight. She nudged him playfully with her elbow.
"You know her?"
Harry cleared his throat, his expression shifting into a mix of surprise and distinct discomfort. "Yeah. That’s Ivy. We used to be... friends. Back in the day."
Y/N raised an eyebrow, a small smile playing on her lips. "Old friend, huh?"
Harry nodded, but there was a shadow in his eyes Y/N couldn't quite decipher. He started to guide her toward a corner booth, hoping to stay under the radar, but it was too late. Ivy’s gaze swept the room and locked onto him. Her eyes went wide.
"Harry Styles?"
Her voice cut through the ambient noise of the café. The conversation at her table died instantly as her friends turned to look.
Harry shifted his weight, putting on a polite, tight-lipped smile. "Hey, Ivy. Long time no see."
Ivy didn't just wave; she practically glided across the room. Her vibrant red hair cascaded over her shoulders, and she moved with a confidence that demanded attention. She stopped at their table, her focus entirely, almost aggressively, on Harry. She barely acknowledged Y/N was standing there.
"Wow," she breathed, looking him up and down. "It has been ages. How have you been?"
Harry glanced at Y/N, a silent apology in his eyes, before turning back to Ivy. "I’ve been good, thanks. Really good. This is Y/N, by the way."
Ivy’s eyes flicked to Y/N. There was a micro-second of assessment—a narrowing of the eyes—before a bright, practiced smile plastered onto her face.
"Nice to meet you, Y/N."
"Likewise," Y/N smiled back, though she could feel the chill radiating off the other woman.
"So," Ivy leaned a hip against their table, effectively blocking the aisle. "What brings you to Aspen? Still skiing like a maniac?"
The air was getting thick. Ivy was leaning in a little too close, her body language angled to box Y/N out. Y/N, ever perceptive, decided to play it cool. She wasn't going to fight for territory she already owned.
"I'm going to grab us some drinks," Y/N said smoothly, stepping around Ivy. "Hot chocolate?"
Harry looked like he wanted to beg her not to leave him alone, but he nodded. "Please."
As Y/N walked toward the counter, she glanced back. Ivy had already stepped closer, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial level.
"So," Ivy purred, toying with the zipper of her jacket. "You have a girlfriend now, huh?"
Harry nodded, taking a subtle step back to reclaim his personal space. "Yeah. We’ve been together for a while now."
Ivy’s lips curved into a tight smile, though the disappointment in her eyes was sharp. "She’s lucky. You know, you were always the one that got away. Quite the catch."
Harry shifted, the discomfort now radiating off him in waves. "Thank you, Ivy."
Y/N returned a moment later, two steaming mugs in her hands. She slid one in front of Harry and took her place beside him—not aggressively, but firmly. Ivy’s smile tightened at the interruption.
"So, Y/N," Ivy asked, her tone dripping with a sweetness that felt synthetic. "How did you two meet?"
Y/N shared a brief, amused glance with Harry. Her gut told her this wasn't casual curiosity; it was an interrogation.
"Mutual friends," Y/N answered simply, taking a sip of her cocoa. "We’ve been having a great time exploring Aspen. It's beautiful."
Ivy nodded, her eyes flickering with something Y/N couldn't quite place—jealousy, maybe, or just annoyance that she hadn't managed to rattle them. "Sounds lovely."
The conversation dragged on for a few more painful minutes. Y/N couldn't shake the feeling that Ivy was trying to stake a claim—dropping "remember when" stories and inside jokes that Y/N wasn't part of. It was a power play, a reminder of a past connection Y/N was apparently intruding upon.
Eventually, Harry found an opening.
"Well, we should really get back to the slopes before the sun goes down," Harry said, checking his watch a little too eagerly. "It was good seeing you, Ivy."
"You too," Ivy said, her gaze lingering on him a second too long before she finally retreated to her friends.
Harry let out a breath he seemed to have been holding for ten minutes. He guided Y/N out of the café, his hand firm on her lower back.
"Sorry about that," he said as soon as the door closed behind them, muting the noise of the lodge. His voice was heavy with apology.
Y/N squeezed his hand reassuringly. "No need to apologize. It’s clear she’s... an old friend."
Harry nodded, his grip on her hand tightening. "Yeah. Old friend."
They clicked back into their skis and headed down. Y/N felt a mix of emotions swirling in her chest. She trusted Harry completely—he hadn't given her a single reason not to—but Ivy’s presence had introduced a sharp, unexpected note of tension to their trip.
As the sun began to set, they stopped at a ridge overlooking the valley. The snow was painted in shades of violet and gold. The world was quiet up here.
"Ivy’s always been a bit... intense," Harry admitted, breaking the silence. He was looking at her, not the view.
Y/N turned to him, her expression softening. She saw the worry in his eyes, the need to make sure she was okay.
"Well," Y/N said, a genuine smile breaking through. "I’m glad you’re with me now."
Harry’s eyes softened, crinkling at the corners with affection. He reached out, his gloved hand cupping her cheek. "Me too, Y/N. Me too."
He leaned in, capturing her lips in a sweet, lingering kiss. The mountain air was biting, but the warmth between them chased the chill away. Ivy might have stirred the pot, but standing there on top of the world, Y/N knew exactly who Harry wanted to be with.
By the time Y/N and Harry stumbled back into the house, their cheeks were wind-burnt and rosy, their bodies humming with the specific kind of exhaustion that only comes from a full day on the slopes.
They shed their gear in the entryway and made their way into the living room, where the fire was already roaring. The warmth hit them like a physical weight, instantly contrasting with the biting mountain air.
"You two look wrecked," James laughed from the armchair, blowing on a steaming mug of hot chocolate.
"In the best way," Harry grinned. He dropped onto the sofa and immediately pulled Y/N down with him, not content until she was tucked firmly into his side. He groaned as he stretched his legs out toward the hearth, his arm draping over her shoulders to keep her close. "My quads are on fire."
"Worth it, though," Y/N added, melting into his warmth. Harry turned his head, pressing a lingering kiss to her temple, his fingers absentmindedly playing with the ends of her hair.
The group fell into an easy rhythm, trading stories about runs and wipeouts. Y/N waited for a lull in the conversation, catching Harry’s eye briefly. He squeezed her shoulder reassuringly, a silent signal that he was with her.
"We actually had a bit of a weird run-in on the mountain today," Y/N said, glancing between Sebastian and James.
Sebastian looked up from his phone, piqued. "Weird how? Did Harry finally crash trying to show off?"
Harry chuckled, the sound vibrating against Y/N’s ribs. "No, I stayed on my feet, thanks. We just ran into an old friend of mine. Ivy."
James and Sebastian exchanged a blank look.
"Ivy?" James repeated, raising an eyebrow. "Name doesn’t ring a bell."
"Me neither," Sebastian shrugged. "Who is she?"
"Ivy Thompson," Harry supplied. He shifted slightly, pulling Y/N even closer, as if to physically demonstrate that Ivy was just a name from the past, while Y/N was his present. "She’s from back in the day. We were friends in school. She recognized me in the lodge."
James and Sebastian seemed satisfied with that, accepting it as just another random encounter. But across the room, the atmosphere shifted instantly.
Sarah froze. Her mug stopped halfway to her mouth, and her eyes widened, a flicker of genuine alarm passing over her face.
"Ivy Thompson?" Sarah’s voice was sharp, cutting through the lazy warmth of the room. It wasn’t just surprise; it was disbelief.
Y/N turned to her, picking up on the shift immediately. "Yeah. You know her?"
Sarah’s gaze darted between Y/N and Harry. She looked like she wanted to say something, but she bit her lip, hesitating. "I... I know of her. I didn’t realize you two were still friends, Harry."
"We were close for a bit," Harry said, his tone casual. He took Y/N’s hand in his, interlacing their fingers on his lap and rubbing his thumb over her knuckles. "She was always... a lot. Super energetic. You could hear her laugh from a mile away. She was fun back then."
He looked down at Y/N as he said it, offering her a soft, private smile.
Sebastian perked up, a playful glint entering his eyes. "Loud and fun? Is she single?"
Harry laughed, shaking his head. "I have no idea, mate. We only talked for five minutes. It was just a quick catch-up." He kissed the top of Y/N’s head, dismissing the topic.
"Shame," Sebastian joked, winking at Y/N. "I need a date for the next group dinner."
While the boys laughed, Sarah remained dead silent. She stared into the fire, her knuckles white where she gripped her mug. She knew exactly who Ivy Thompson was. And she knew that "fun" was a very generous way to describe the chaos that usually followed that girl around. Ivy didn't just show up; she brought storms with her.
The evening carried on, the room filled with the usual laughter and warmth. Harry remained attentive all night, keeping a hand on Y/N’s lower back or thigh, constantly checking in with her. But while the couple was lost in their own happy world, Sarah couldn’t relax.
The cabin had finally settled into silence. The fire in the living room had burned down to glowing embers, and the only light came from the winter moon spilling blue-white across the floorboards.
But in her room, Sarah was wide awake. She stared at the wooden beams of the ceiling, listening to the wind howl outside. She turned onto her side. Then her back. Then her other side. It was useless. The nagging feeling in her gut wouldn’t let her rest. She knew Y/N and Harry were in a good place—better than good, actually—but Sarah also knew the blast radius Ivy usually left behind.
She couldn't just sleep on it.
Throwing the duvet off, Sarah padded barefoot across the hall to Y/N’s room. She tapped her knuckles lightly against the wood.
"Y/N?" she whispered. "You awake?"
A moment later, the door creaked open. Y/N stood there in her pajamas, hair tied up in a messy bun, looking sleepy but smiling.
"Hey," Y/N whispered back, stepping aside to let her in. "Everything okay?"
Sarah slipped inside, and Y/N clicked the door shut behind them.
"Sorry to wake you," Sarah said, sitting on the edge of the mattress while Y/N sat opposite her, pulling her legs up to her chest.
"I wasn't sleeping yet," Y/N assured her. She studied Sarah’s face in the dim light. "What’s going on? You look stressed."
Sarah took a deep breath, picking at a loose thread on the quilt. "I know you guys are on cloud nine right now, and I really, truly am happy for you. You know that, right?"
Y/N’s brows knit together. "Yeah, of course. Sarah, what is it?"
"It’s Ivy."
Sarah didn’t sugarcoat it. She looked Y/N dead in the eye.
"I couldn't sleep because... look, I know Harry played it cool downstairs, but Ivy isn't just an 'old friend.' She’s a hurricane."
Y/N shifted, her expression sobering. "What do you mean?"
"I’ve known of her for a long time," Sarah said, her voice low and urgent. "She thrives on attention. She feeds on chaos. Every time she pops up in a circle of people, things get complicated. She doesn't just exist in a room; she has to be the center of it. And she usually doesn't care who she steps on to get there."
Y/N stayed quiet for a moment, processing. She remembered the way Ivy had looked at Harry in the café—like she owned a piece of him.
"Are you saying you think she’s going to try to mess things up for us?" Y/N asked.
"I’m saying I’ve seen her do it before," Sarah said grimly. "I hate being the person to bring this up, but I just... I don't want you to get blindsided. Harry is great, and he seems totally focused on you, but Ivy has a way of blurring lines. I just don't want you caught in the crossfire if she decides she wants to play games."
Y/N exhaled slowly, appreciating the protective instinct radiating off her friend.
"I hear you," Y/N said softly. "And I appreciate you looking out for me. Seriously." She paused, thinking about the way Harry had held her hand earlier, how reassuring he had been. "But people grow up, right? Maybe she’s changed since you knew her. And Harry... he’s different now, too."
Sarah sighed, offering a small, sad smile. "I really hope that’s true, Y/N. I do. I just want you to be careful. You deserve to be happy without looking over your shoulder."
"I will be," Y/N promised, reaching out to squeeze Sarah’s hand. "I’ll keep my eyes open. Thank you for telling me."
Sarah squeezed back, the tension finally leaving her shoulders. "Okay. Good. I just needed to say it."
"I'm glad you did."
Sarah stood up, offering Y/N one last reassuring look before heading to the door. "Get some sleep. We've got another big day tomorrow."
"Goodnight, Sarah."
As the door clicked shut, Sarah walked back to her room feeling lighter. She had done her part. She trusted Y/N was smart enough to handle herself, but at least now, she wasn't walking into the storm blind.
