Get ready for some ugly crying!

Oh boy, this one is a doozy! I remember the first time watching the first three episodes of season 2 (they all dropped at once the first week it started airing last October) and I stayed up til 3-4am cryin my eyeballs out. Can’t wait to watch your reaction!

you're not alone in getting overwhelmed by Izzy's work on himself this episode, and it continues throughout the season. A big theme in season 2 is change and transformation and his in particular is so powerful after what a toxic douche he was in season 1. So glad you, like Ed, are also seeing the light ahead :)

T. Reed

That whole scene in the water after Ed gets yanked off the cliffedge, and with Stede trying to wake him up, is just so moving, especially with Kate Bush warbling over the top. Perfect, and beautiful. And Taika and Rhys were both really underwater, holding their breath for ridiculous amounts of time while acting and (in Rhys's case) swimming. There's a BTS video on YouTube which shows them filming the scene, and it's fascinating and spectacular!

I'd be fascinated to know - did you know the song before this episode? It's called "This Woman's Work" by Kate Bush. I ask because I think that was a major part of this moment for me (and possibly others). That song is heartbreaking, and I ugly cry just at the first few notes! So as Stede is walking down the stairs, I was already ugly crying - like, an embarrassing amount of snot ugly crying!

Thaniel Grey

Not that it diminishes it for you if you hadn't, of course! I just wonder if you knew it and were already in the feels! Haha

It's a rough start to the season, but it makes the beauty and emotions of the water sceen that much more impactful. Also dw you're not the only one to be surprised about getting emotional over Izzy this season 😂

Morgan Terry

I dont think I ever heard of the song before. But it was emotional even my first time listening to it.

PerpendicularPotato

That type of seduction probably *did* work on her fair share of guys on wanted posters... Maybe didn't help with the whole end in a massacre business 🤣

Vex Valor

This is my favorite episode of season 2. It has everything and puts me through the emotional wringer. Zheng's right hand lady is the only one in the show that pronounces her name "zhong" and I imagine that is the traditional pronunciation, but the rest of the cast pronounce it "zjang". You pronounce it like a Z turning into a J and "ang" just like Aang from ATLA.

Joy (a.k.a. Gentle Lionheart)

It warms my heart to see you stick up for Izzy! I loved seeing his character arc this season and it's just getting started :) Also, I'm so sorry for the emotional roller coaster this show keeps putting you through.. There are still some great moments to look forward to. I promise!

Come to think of it: I don't think that Ed ever had a positive male authority figure in his life, which explains a lot. He went from being abused by his father when he was a boy, to being abused by his captain when he was a young man. He's never seen solutions modelled that were not toxic or violent or both.
