Donna is hands down my favorite companion, this is one of if not the best season of Dr who!

Daniel Davies

Originally, Donna’s father from ‘The Runaway Bride’ was supposed to be in this story and they had even filmed all of his scenes. Sadly, Howard Attfield passed away after filming ‘Partners in Crime’, and so they brought Bernard Cribbins back and then has him fill in Attfield’s role, now as Donna’s Grandfather.

David Johnson

"And the fat just walks away..." The first corporate motto ever that's actually true. The first companion to actually pack for the trip.

Capow02

I completely agree

Fun fact about "Partners in crime": I believe in the script there was just "Donna starts to mime"... And so Chatrine (and subsecquently David) just improvized the whole thing on the spot.

NatMcK7

Morgan, that's her mom not grandmother. And the old man is her Grandad, also the same guy you saw in the Christmas special that the Doctor met when they were beamed down to Earth. Everything about this episode is gold, the comedy, the opening scene, the dialogue, the dynamic between the Doctor and Donna, Ugh it's jUST PEAK CINEMA! Caecilius and his family come straight from the Latin text books you would have studied if you took Latin in school, I made that connection myself in high school, it was brilliant Your reaction was amazing, everything I wanted!! I can't wait for the next Saturday!

Oscar Rich

I forgot how great this season is with the setup for so many mysteries, Rose, missing planets, missing bees, the one mysterious new character who we meet later but i wont say anything about because "spoilers" . this season is so great

LikeCat

"That fire got nothing to do with me" is a direct reference to a 1th Doctor story (approprietly named "The Azteks") where it was in-fact his fault that fire started.

Raine

Scene of Donna and Doctor reuniting is so awesome it deserves its own award fr😂💗

Ash Vander

LOVED THIS REACTION SO MUCH!!! PROBABLY MY FAVE REACTION OF ALL TIME FROM YOU TBH!!! CAN'T WAIT FOR YOU TO SEE MORE OF THE AMAZING DUO OF THE DOCTOR AND DONNA!!!

Matthew

I love Donna's grandfather Wilfred Mott so much, he's one of my comfort characters and such a wholesome guy.

Gallifreyanqueen

Here's a transcript of what Donna and The Doctor were mouthing to each other if you were curious: DOCTOR: Donna? DONNA: Doctor? Doctor! DOCTOR: But what? What? What? DONNA: Oh my God! DOCTOR: But how? DONNA: It's me! DOCTOR: Yes, I can see that. DONNA: Oh, this is brilliant. DOCTOR: What the hell are you doing there? DONNA: I was looking for you. DOCTOR: What for? DONNA: I read it on the internet. Weird. Crept along. Heard them talking. Hid. You.

Partners in crime: 12:00, oh my Gods, Morgan. You predicted it😆 30:27. YOUR FACE MORGAN🤣🤣🤣🤣!!! YOU GOT SO HAPPY! DOCTOR AND DONNA ARE BACK IN BUSINESS🤩 46:03, "It's so funny that I care about these things more than human babies." 😂😂😂. Well, you gotta admit they are cute. Gross, but cute 56:44, "WHAT DO YOU MEAN ROSE IS BACK?!x2" *10 seconds later, she vanishes like a ghost* "WTF WAS THAT!?" Confusing, right? WTH?! How and why? Idk Fires of Pompeii: 1:32:00, "Just us girls!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Well, when you think about it, the Doctor never specifically said what gender is correct. We call him a "he" now because he appears as a man right now. 1:53:00, "Idk of Pompeii, but I've heard of the Library of Alexandria." Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Cause the expression on your face tells me it's really bad😬 1:54:20, "... when it caught fire." WHAT😨😳?! Are you serious?! Caecilius, or whatever his name was, can't catch a break😅 Last edit: That was fun. I can't wait to see the next reaction. See ya, Morgan😁

Liam Gradwell

They really knew how to open this series. Donna back, the old man from the newsagent is revealed to be her grandfather, and ROSE?! Russell T Davies doesn’t let us breathe. 😅💜

LikeCat

And he does not stop with the insane stories until the finale... Neither Steven for 11's and 12's stories.

Verdigree

I wasn’t sure if you realized, Donna’s grandpa was in the last episode selling newspapers. The actor who played Donna’s dad had passed away, so in Donna’s mom’s house now is her daughter and her father, not sure if this helps, lol

Partners in Crime - "I lose exactly one kilo a day."  - It's nice to know aliens use the metric system :) - "Now they're making me think the fat comes out their belly buttons and, like, grows legs and walks away." - bingo - The adipose security van uses mauve-coloured lights if you remember what the Doctor said about them (universal sign of emergency). - You didn't recognise Wilf from Voyage of the Damned? - The nagging woman is Donna's mother (not her grandmother) and Wilf's daughter. - "The bees are disappearing" - whilst it's still somewhat in the news, the bees disappearing (aka Colony Collapse Disorder) was a lot more present in the news cycle when this show aired. The Fires of Pompeii - There's a whole meta-layer to this story that only people who grew up under a certain set of circumstances will get. Nearly every British schoolkid grew up with the stories of Caecilius and his family. You know how language lessons will invent characters and ask you to translate passages like "Maria is going to see her friend Sandra at the beach", well the Latin textbooks used in UK high schools all use Caecilius and his family as their basis. Everyone knows his name. - The cult member who's constantly following the Doctor and Donna is Karen Gillan who went on to be a movie star (Avengers, Jumanji). - Similarly, the actor who plays Caecilius went on to play an antagonist in Torchwood. - In reality Caecilius was a banker, not a marble merchant. His records survived inside his safe after the volcano and we learned a lot about how the city functioned from them. - "Your real name is hidden." - There's only one time in their life a Time Lord tells someone their real name. - When the family is huddled together and awaiting death, they're in the same pose a real Pompeiian family was found in. - You've probably noticed from the easier bits, but sometimes the subtitles are way off on what's actually being said.

Verdigree

I definitely understand having the subtitles on for Doctor Who because of the accents and dialects, but I think the ones in the version Americans got were re-done by an overworked and underpaid person who doesn’t know British accents or phrases that well, possibly using speech-to-text, because there’s many small and BIG mistakes, because Caecilius ACTUALLY said “Gods, save us!” begging the Doctor for help and the subtitles said “You can’t save us” like literally the EXACT opposite meaning

Carabas

The whole library of alexandria thing is around 200 years later. Either way, Peter Capaldi's family lives in Rome, they're only selling marble to Alexandria.

Luke

the episode is "the romans"! the 4th story of the 2nd season, with barbara, ian and vicki as companions :) one of my fav 1st doctor stories, i love the classic who pure historicals

Verdigree

Ok, for what you specifically asked about, Caecilius’s family are in Rome, he’s just selling marble to Alexandrians to build grain storage buildings, this episode is set in the year 79, and the two famous acts of destruction was a fire accidentally spread to the Library 150 years before this and 310 years after this was when a Christian emperor ordered the destruction of the temple the library was inside

labyrinthpeaches

Two great episodes and your reactions were brilliant :D I think you're gonna love this season, the banter between Donna and the Doctor is so good! And I'm so glad you've properly met Wilf (Donna's Grandpa). he's one of my favourite characters honestly :D Also I forgot about the Rose appearance at the end of that first episode and your reaction was so good, no spoilers but I think you should look forward to the end of the season :D

Butterfly Warrior

It’s always so funny seeing Peter Capaldi this early in the series, knowing he’s going to be The Doctor in the future. And it’s so cool he’s such a big fan of Doctor Who too.

MyQueerLibrarian

Can’t believe we got Scrooge McDuck and his companion Aunt Magika at last

LikeCat

About ,,Your name is hidden" - Yes it is what you said and to add to it... Spoilers.

LikeCat

I only heard of most early Doctor stories (especially 1's. And I was writing it from memory so I got the episodes mixed up.

Flufux

Fun fact: the actors who plays one of the the future Doctors and also one of the future companions were in the Pompeii episode.

Joey Quixote

I do hope you've done a little research on Pompeii since seeing this. A truly fascinating geological disaster. Shouldn't be terribly surprising, they sell little stuffed Adipose in numerous shops! Donna and The Doctor have such a fun dynamic. You're gonna love their time together!

Tintros

Great reaction to some great Who! The two of them REALLY have good chemistry and play off each other so well. The silent communication in the first episode would have been crazy for most people, but those two pulled it off brilliantly. The emotion in the second where they carry the gravity of what's happening was fantastic too. It's things like that that you don't see a lot of in TV particularly, and the BBC can really pull it off when they want. I remember first watching these and not being as much a fan of Donna as I am now, I think because I was still tore up with Martha's departure. Keep up the good work!

Freya Murphy

I’ve been to Pompeii and I went to Caecilius’ house! My brother and I took a picture outside - we had to take Latin in school for two years, and as another commenter mentioned, the stories were centred around Caecilius and his family. My brother and I were so excited and no one else was lol They did little videos to go along with some of those stories and my head of year was the actor who played Caecilius in them! It was so funny to see him 😂

JJ415

HEY GUESS WHAT! your in the new DEGENEROCITY VIDEO!!! "The Ai Takeover" please react! 😆😆😆🙏🏼

Mary

Joined patreon just to watch your reactions! I love how genuinly you engage with stuff. As someone who gets hyperfixated on things, it is my greatest joy to see someone else enjoy it too

T0m4002

An actress for a future companion was one of the sisterhood

T0m4002

Course he was in torchwood after this just to confuse things

T0m4002

1:53:17 don’t worry the Romans them selves burned the library of Alexandria about 100 years before this… I say don’t worry, it was bad but not a problem for them… most notable thing at this point is the invention of a primitive steam engine and land surveying techniques by a mathematician called hero… a marble expert will be fine

Thea

Oh yeah, season 4 is fantastic. It's still my favourite of the whole show and 10/Donna is still my favourite Doctor/companion dynamic. The chemistry between those two actors is something you only get once every blue moon. Kinda like Tennant and Sheen in Good Omens, only platonic. I'm really looking forward to seeing you react to the rest of this season.

solidstate

I do really enjoy Capaldi later in the series lol, I always forget he was Caecilius in this one

Faroth

Donna nobel. Best companion ever

Bumblybeesknees

First time I noticed the "You got have something on your back" referenced so early on

Faroth

1:54:50 there was a man in japan that survived the 1st nuke being in the area of damage, traveled to the other city and survived the 2nd nuke being in the area of damage... That guy brings bad luck...
