In this video I'm reacting to the episodes "Midnight" and "Turn Left".

For the specials (I believe they are normal length ones) I think you should do the first two in one video the third one in a second video (or if you feel like it doing these three in one video), and most importantly the last two should be in one video.

Sirghostfreak

Yeah two a video if you want also with the last special being a two parter

LikeCat

Fun little behind the scenes fact about these two episodes: Both David and Catherine had other things they were working on at the time (filming for other shows and stuff), so this is one of the reason for these solo-adventures for them.

Liam Gradwell

These two I think are some of the best Doctor Who episodes. Midnight was very scary and well written, despite it being a “low budget” episode. It done everything right: the performances, the music and the suspense. And Turn Left is very dark, despite us having Rose back. Hope you recover well after these Morgan. 💜

Luke Teasdale

Ah yes midnight, where the true enemy is the horror of human paranoia when faced with the unknown... Still applicable 17 years later 😅 Oh and turn left, yeah nothing interesting happens it that episode... Nothing at all 😈 There's something on your back, Morgan.

Verdigree

There are 4 total specials, they came out from 2008-2010, “The Next Doctor”, “Planet of the Dead”, and “The Waters of Mars” are just a little longer than a normal episode, 60 minutes each. “The End of Time” is the last one, with a Part One that’s also 60 minutes and a Part Two that’s 75 minuites, however you choose to proceed, if you did multiple of them in a day, I think it’s worth taking a little break between recording each episode in order to digest and ponder, they were originally like 6 months apart except The End of Time parts 1 & 2 were on Christmas and New Years So theorically speaking, if you put the first 2 specials together, that's 2 hours of footage and if u put the next two together, that's 3 hours and 15 minutes total of footage, I figure you'll want to unpack

Matthew

The remaining 2 episodes this season and the specials after that are some of the show's best in history

The guy playing Jethro (the kid) is Colin Morgan. He played Merlin in the 2008 series. If you liked him in this, you'd like Merlin; he is very much a troublemaker, but also has a lot of sincere and sweet moments. You also met Merlin's counterpart/mentor, Gaius, played by Richard Wilson, as Dr Constantine in S1 EP9 The Empty Child. Edit: I forgot you also met another cast member of Merlin through Doctor Who. Anthony Head played Mr. Finch in School Reunion. Anyway, it's a great cast with some familiar faces if you ever want to give it a go.

Midnight is my fav episode of the entire show, because it’s an interesting reversal which places the doctor firmly in the role of the victim, rather than the hero. He didn’t save anyone. He was completely helpless for the first time in the series, and his biggest enemy wasn’t the monster stealing his voice but the ordinary humans he’s been protecting for years. It just shows how ugly and mean humans can get when they’re scared and confronted with something they don’t understand, like the doctor. I had have trouble watching it, and i think it’s overstimulating and unfriendly to neurodivergent viewers for a reason. It’s showing us how scary it can be for someone like the doctor (a neurodivergent coded character) to exist in conditions like that. I could say so much about this episode, but I think this episode had a much bigger effect on the doctor than he lets on, and shows just how vulnerable he actually is when he’s alone and without his companions

LikeCat

And when a ,,monster" turns his biggest (and 9/10 most successfull) adventige - his voice (as 9 said all the way back in Series 1 to the Daleks ,,I don't have weapons, but what I can do is talk") against him AND against people who he wants to protect.

The Baker's Ruview

The trickster brigade goes into more detail in the sarah jane adventures.

Alfredo Delgadillo

The professor is David troughton the son of the actor who ever played the second doctor. Such a nice addition to one of the best episodes of doctor who

LikeCat

On that note (given WHO we are dealing with these past few seasons): We need the Trickster in one of these newer episodes

Willow 404

There's five specials total and the last two are a two parter so it's rly up to you but i would personally recommend doing one-per-video for the first three and then do the last two in one video!

The Baker's Ruview

I'll be honest i've not watched maybe the past 3 most recent seasons of doctor who. But i would be fully up for the trickster making his debut in main series doctor who.

Raine

I loooove Midnight, it's just an interesting episode.

1:35, "Oh also, it has, officially been a year, since I started doing YouTube full-time. And making content full-time. So I wanted to thank you guys SO MUCH, especially on Patreon, cause you guys make it so I can do this for a living. YouTube pays sh*t!" You're welcome💓. I joined like almost a year ago, mainly because I think you said something about your sis Mallory was going to react to Hazbin, and that SPARKED my interest🤩. Plus, I wanted to fund my FAVORITE YouTuber, so that you could continue this awesome journey. So, thank YOU, for being you're most awesome freaky self🤪😍🤣👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. Now, onto the reaction➡️ Midnight: 3:16, "That's a date. Well not a date. Oh you know what I mean. Oh get off.... aaaa. Taking a big spacetruck with a bunch of strangers a cross a planet called Midnight. What could possibly go wrong?" Firstly, NEVER SAY "what could go wrong?" Secondly, 😂😂😂, their little inside jokes. It's a date, but not a date-date! 28:09, "I hate when people talk over each other. I can deal with it for short periods of time, but this is getting to me." Honestly same here. If multiple people talk at the same time, and not about the same thing, I get frustrated, tell them to shut up, and then tell them "one at the time!" 29:14, "That's why I hate flying, cause there's so many f*cking people! And they're all loud, and then there's a Baby crying. There's Always A F*cking Baby Crying!!" I feel ya Morgan. Whenever I'm on a plane, I pray that there's no babies on board. And if there are, I just crank the volume in my headset as loud🎧🔉🔊 as I can endure/handle, just so I don't have to listen to the screams! 35:40, "I don't understand why it's so hard for people to just follow f*cking directions!?!" Me and my autistic brain, have no problem following directions, especially if they're so easy to follow, a child could understand. My brain works in a way that, if you explain something to me, in the simplest and plainest of ways, I WILL understand completely!! The Doctor gives that kind of directions. Very easy for me to follow🫡! 38:35. It's easy to say it, less doing it. If I say "I wanna k*ll that person or this person" I don't necessarily mean I could do it. If it's a fictional character, I'm killing them in my twisted fantasies. But again, it's easy to say something, but it's much harder to actually do it! 41:15. Humans🙄. Doesn't matter what year it is. Humans will be humans🙄. Anyone who reads this, take that whichever way you want to. It's both a compliment but also an insult! Also, yes, I'm counting myself in this regard! Cause most of the time, I count myself as a human. But every once in a while, I feel like an alien👽 in human skin✋🏻 55:50, "She literally died protecting everyone in that cabin." Yeah😔, and now I feel, kinda numb, or nothing, I feel Nothing at all. Turn Left: 1:07:40, "I'm so confused, right now, like. Is it like a simulation if she turned right instead of left?" If only it was that simple 1:09:08, *😳😳* "BILLIE PIPER?! OMG! I almost spit out my f*cking drink🤣🤣🤣🤣!!! WHAT DO YOU MEAN, BILLIE PIPER?! OMG, I'm in for it!" Yeah🤣. Also, I was just shocked seeing your surprised face. 😳😳. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 1:15:00. Honestly, I can't remember. I think (if this is actually what happened, and it's explained later, this doesn't count as a spoiler, cause I honestly don't know) she built a device/machine to make it back to this dimension. It must've worked 1:33:19, "She put so many things into motion, uh, by meeting the Doctor on that Christmas special. And, then you know, meeting Martha right after." Yeah. I think Donna is like a little stone thrown into a big lake. Eventually the small waves becomes bigger and bigger. 1:39:43, "But you're gonna die." WTH Rose?! Why did you say that?! Okay, Morgan, listen to me, please. Just breath. Donna is gonna leave the Doctor. She'll be fine! 1:41:35, "Labour camps. That's what they called them the last time. F*ck it's the same thing. It's happening again. What is?" And here's where we remember WW2 people. Concentration camps. Remember those?! Horrible. Just horrible😱🫢🥺😭 1:43:40. Oh, my, f*cking, gods. Are you serious, Morgan?! "CPs" in the US, in this day and age?! I'm serious, can someone get a hold of I.M.P, because we need them for a very high stakes job! I'm not saying a name, but he looks like a carrot in skin color! 1:47:36. Are you seeing what I'm seeing👀? The stars... THEY'RE DISAPPEARING!!!! Ooooooh, sh*t. We're in trouble! 1:52:20, "The way my soul would hit the eject button, and ascend from my body, or at this point let's be honest, maybe descend a little.." 🤣🤣🤣. I would've just screamed "AAAAA!!! GET IT OFF ME GET IT OFF ME!!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 2:04:03, "Bad Wolf. What does it mean?" And then the Doctor just starts running! *27 seconds later* "What's Bad Wolf? It's the end of the universe!" Ooooooh my gaaaawds, we are IN FOR IT PEOPLE!!!! 2:06:50. If you want to do it, go a head. Me, personally, don't really need that, but if you're up for it, then I say go ahead and do it. Last edit: That was, two really intense episodes. I'm really looking forward to the next ones😁. Also, there's like, 5 specials after those two episodes. If you could split them into, 3 in one video and the last 2 in a separate video, that'd be great. Especially given the fact that the last 2 are a two parter. But ey, you decide what to do. Anyways, see ya in the next reaction. Bye👋🏼

To clarify, the beetle did actually change the timeline, but the way it did it was so weak and unstable that Rose was able to break through to help.

Flufux

'Turn Left' actually has a lot of references to both of the Doctor Who spin-off shows, 'Torchwood' and 'The Sarah-Jane Adventures', with the Doctor even mentioning a character called 'The Trickster' near the end of the episode, who is a villain introduced in 'The Sarah-Jane Adventures', and was the one who the fortune teller and the giant beetle was working for. Also, your reaction to seeing Billie Piper's name in the opening was priceless. Can't wait to see your reaction to the season finale!

Midnight - Despite being a fan-favourite this is one of my least liked episodes. It's still as bad as when I first watched it. I have a very specific trigger with regards to mob mentality/mob violence. It took the stupidity of only a handful of humans to outshine the brilliance of the Doctor. - As a fellow autist, I am right there with you. I know it's intentional but the overwhelming noise makes you want to go "If you could just all SHUT UP FOR ONE DAMNED SECOND AND LET ME BREATHE!" It's like being repeatedly poked in the ribs. - One thing I'd dispute about this episode is the idea of the Doctor going on a guided tour like some yokel. That man does not do package holidays. - They never beat this version of the theme music. Season 14's comes close, but this with the guitars is the best. - Sky thought the creature was coming for her because her ex-wife said "she'd get her". - There's no way of knowing if the creature was even trying to get rid of the Doctor, or if it was just mirroring the paranoid accusations that had been going on for the past hour. - See you in 400,000 years. Turn Left - "I thought they went back in time to China" - you missed the spaceships flying overhead? - Sometimes you should let the episode play on and trust it will explain what's happening. - The Trickster the Doctor mentions as being behind the bug is the big bad from the Sarah Jane Smith spin-off show. He's a literal god, like that thing in the Satan Pit. - That strange noise the Tardis is making at the end is called the Cloister Bell, and it only sounds in times of direst emergency. post-season React and Specials - I'd love to hear your thoughts on the season, assuming there's enough of a demand to make it worth your while and, more importantly, it's a show good enough that there are thoughts about it percolating inside your head in between recordings. I'd like to hear you talk about favourite moments and episodes, breakdowns of the characters and their dynamics, your fan-theories about the Doctor. - I'd anticipated that it'd only be one special a video but I don't feel too strongly about it. I do notice if you do 2 hours in a row, you tend to flag in the second hour. The last 2 specials have to be part of the same video as they're Parts 1 and 2. That leaves three stand-alone hour-long specials to be reacted to.

Karen Dougherty

I'm not a fan of these two episodes. I watched all of Midnight only because of the cast. Watched just enough of Turn Left to realize that the actress who played the fortune teller also played Chantho in Utopia (Season 3).

Tintros

Outstanding react video. Midnight is one of my least favorite episodes of DrWho, and seeing it again now I still don't like it. I think the reason is that despite it being a very well executed examination of fear, it doesn't feel to me like a Dr. Who episode, more like something from The Outer Limits or something. There's a negative view of humanity, there's unmourned deaths for no reason, and the Doctor can't do a damn thing about it. None of that hits the 'Dr Who' buttons for me. Turn Left on the other hand, I do enjoy and while I wasn't a big fan of Donna at the time, she's grown on me since. I think part of my issues were that I missed Rose and Martha, heh. Also, wow, the emotions from this episode. I'm right there with you on the state of the world echoing with the episode. That's rough. I remember saying after November last year that I thought we (humanity, Americans..) were *better* than that.. but obviously we weren't. That moment sucked, and unfortunately, I've only seen more of it since, but there are good people out there that want to make things better. But there's also people ruled by fear. Thank you for sharing your emotional reactions with us. As to the summary video? Sounds great! Be interesting to hear your thoughts looking back at Eccleston and at the companions you've experienced.

Tintros

An interesting take on it. I hadn't considered it from this angle, but the whole part where they turn on him could be a reflection of how neurotypical people will often turn on the neurodivergent because of a 'vibe' they get from them. :(

Verdigree

I I remember correctly, not only is the Once and Future Showrunner a gay man, (Russel T Davies, who left Doctor Who for years after his husband died and is running it again now) the original creators of the show in 1963 were a woman and a gay man

Verdigree

No, this other timeline wasn’t a hallucination or a simulation, remember that awful Pompeiian man who could see the future was aware something was up and was like “There’s something on your back”, the Doctor mentioned the Time Beetle works for The Trickster, he’s like a transdimensional god of chaos who messes with time for fun, the lady and the beetle didn’t go after Donna in particular, they just change history for the LOLz and the universe is fine, they randomly ran into Donna’s particularly influential life and things got way out of control

Verdigree

So the hospital was always going to be returned, the space cops had just temporarily siezed the whole thing, the Doctor not being there just meant the cops killed all but one person

Verdigree

You met Sarah Jane Smith in Series 2, School Reunion, she's a companion from the 70s and she got her own spin-off of Doctor Who that's more of a kids show, so her and the protagonists of the show apparently tried to make up for the Doctor and died in this timeline

Verdigree

It’s not something that turns up that often in media because it makes the UK look bad, but the fact is that the UK has had a lot of facists for the same reason Italy did, it’s people looking back on an imagined “Golden Era” of the British Empire, the Roman Empire, it is the same concept behind the sentiment of “Make America Great Again”, and I think an important part of fighting Facism and authoritarianism is to examine it in media, behind flashy action stuff, that’s what Star Wars is, V for Vendetta and 1984 are British books all about this, Porco Rossi, the Studio Ghibli movie about a pig man is about Italian Facism, and what this episode of Doctor Who is identifying is the forces within the UK who go on to push racist, xenophobic, isolationist resentment of the world that drove Brexit taking advantage to enact their hate in an abject situation and see the British Army also “just following orders”

Verdigree

Turn Left wasn't written in a mindset of "this could never happen again", it was written to show the viewer exactly how EASILY it can happen again

Luke

god, i'd love the trickster back, he's one of the best things to come out of the sarah jane adventures. the only problem with bringing back the trickster is that he was created by gareth roberts, who's basically been dropped from the show because of his transphobia and general shittiness, and since he still has the rights to the character it might be difficult to bring back the trickster? if they manage to do so it would be great though.

The Baker's Ruview

Oh no we don't stan transphobia eww. But if the current editors/producers could find a way of implimenting the trickster without having to deal with him that would be sickening

Mary

Exactly! It's like the myth of autistic children being fairy children in disguise because theres "something not normal about them," and how autistic children were often thought to be "shifty" because they couldn't meet your eyes, or "disingenous" because they are trying to imitate normal interaction but, just like how the Doctor tried to bond with each of the humans in the begining, but it only served as fuel to use against him. I also found the continuous line about "It's the eyes," really telling, because the Sky's eyes handn't changed at all, the change was in how people viewed her, and they were assigning physical meaning to something in order to justify it.

Mary

You're criticisms of Midnight are so valid. It's my favourite episode, and yet at the same time I 100 percent agree with the reasons you stated.

Ash Vander

i'd love to hear if you rewatched any episodes and if you understood any themes, plots or characters better after watching them again!

marauderluverz (Luci)

This was a great reaction! Midnight is an episode i didn't remember until watching it here. It's not an episode i enjoy very much because as you saw/felt it is very upsetting to watch. But Turn Left is definitely one of my more enjoyed episodes because I love seeing how important Donna is. Also, yay for seeing Rose again even if only for a short time. And the reveal at the end of bad wolf is so exciting. Can't wait to watch your reaction to the next ones and i am excited to see hwat you think of any future doctor who stuff you continue with.

Faroth

the whole story of how the show started is amazing, they were fated to fail and still managed to keep going, the show literally premiere one hour after kennedy was shot, nobody saw the show that day and the producer asked for a re-schedchule next week, in the 60s!!!!!

Faroth

In the Whovian fandom there are 2 episodes that whovians refuse to talk much about... "Love & Monsters" (Series 2, Episode 10) "Midnight" (Series 4, Episode 10)-this one and those 2 are a balance: one is amazingly well done, the other is amazingly bad, thats why we dont talk about "Love and monsters"... midnight we dont talk about because the true monsters at the end was the humans... it is said you can recreate Midnight with just some chairs and some sync practice... which is what makes it one of the better horror episodes in the show... no special effects, just psychological horror It proves you don't need a massive budget or a "monster of the week" suit to create true horror. The most terrifying thing in that episode isn't the creature outside; it's how quickly the people inside turn on each other when they’re scared. It’s a masterclass in psychological writing.

Bumblybeesknees

The continuously calling it a simulation starts to feel like a coping mechanism at some point XD
