[Mod] Please make sure to not post any spoilers for the Sagas ahead of what Morgan is currently reacting too & allow them to develop their own opinions for what is happening for each Saga

August_Angel_Official

Im so excited that you're reacting to epic, its one of my favorite musicals of all time and i cant wait to see your reactions to this saga and the future ones!

SauceyRed

ALREADY!? YESSS LET’S FUCKING GOOOOOO! (Though why not name the saga instead of just “saga 1”?)

SauceyRed

The animatic playlist is very based, though there are a few I’d replace with my favorites, and some I haven’t seen

Sarah H

I'm so excited for this, especially if it opens the way for more musical reactions in the future (Six, maybe? Just for a fun time and some sass).

Åshild

Yesss!!!! This musical has had me in a chokehold for the past year!

Andrew Pineda

[Mod] NO SPOILERS. I've specifically instructed Morgan to not look at comments until after Saga 2, so please respect the reactor and don't ruin the experience

Andrew Pineda

[Mod] Certain playlists are not great for first-time reactor viewing experiences (this includes the "movie"-edited versions, as they contain some editing choices that are not great for first time reactors. The intent here is to have a playlist that's as "first-time" friendly as possible, and then Morgan can go on their own journey to discovering the "fan favorite" animatics, as well as hold potential polls for alternate animatics

PinkPonytail _Girl

Fun fact: originally Gigi didn't have the hand opening at the end which did leave it up to interpretation. She eventually added the hand opening for a harder ending. I personally prefer the hand opening version. I think it adds more emotion and is such a cold ending

SauceyRed

Yeah no that’s fine, I don’t disagree with the playlist, there are just some animatics I prefer/think are cooler over some of the ones chosen. Though I’m curious, which animatics do you consider less beginner-friendly? I’ve watched a lot of them (though fewer for the last couple sagas), and I can’t really think of any that aren’t beginner-friendly.

Saph

So I'm so glad your liking it so far! Can't wait to see the next reaction. Also the bird he sees in "just a man" was an eagle meant to represent Zeus king of the gods and the owl is meant to represent Athena goddess of wisdom and battle strategy. Mods sorry if this is a spoiler I will happily delete comment if so

PinkPonytail _Girl

Aren't those little creatures called winions? Or are those creatures introduced later?

PinkPonytail _Girl

I would also note to take the subtitles with a grain of salt because they are not always accurate. For example in Warrior of the Mind the subtitle was "God isn't bad versus a friend" when the real lyric is actually " Goddess and man, bestest of friends". So just something to note. 🙃

PinkPonytail _Girl

I'm sooooo hyped for epic reaction! I LOVE epic and have been obsessed with it since I found it back in September.

SourCoon

I loved the reaction. I'd been anxiously awaiting it all week, and it was totally worth it. Just one thing: some of the subtitles in the videos you watched were automated and not very correct, and maybe they confused you a little. Also, none of the songs or animatics actually have copyright restrictions. The creator of the musical is actively encouraging people to post reactions. you could probably upload the unedited video to YouTube without consequences.

NatMcK7

I'm just as new to this as you are Morgan, and this is very interesting so far! Look forward to enjoying this journey with you.

Andrew Pineda

[Mod] We know from firsthand experience that the songs DO have copyright restrictions, another mod reacted to it unedited and he got copyright claimed, and regardless of whether Jay is okay with it or not, even HE recommends pausing/editing the videos in order for it to be fair use under copyright law.

T0m4002

to be clear... the lotus eaters weren't immune... they were addicted

Andrew Pineda

[Mod] These creatures in the song "Open Arms" are canonically the Lotus-Eaters.

T0m4002

if you want a break down of the greak mythology basics i recomend Jake Doubleyoo

T0m4002

the birds represent the gods... Zeus is the eagle and Athena is the owl

Jules Moum

I'm 💯% with you🫡!!

Andrew Pineda

Obvious example are animatics that *cut out a certain part of the song*. Other examples include certain ones that were released early on in the fandom that have very confusing design/staging choices for the characters (Think of the "OpenArmsReaction" channel when they first reacted to "Luck Runs Out"). Other decisions are simply for story purposes or based on what I know from editing Morgan's videos, as well as knowing how they react to certain things, and how certain other reactors react to one animatic versus another.

Jules Moum

11:03, "What did you guys get me into?!" Ey, I'm innocent. I didn't pitch this to you. I was gonna recommend you react to "Kpop Demon Hunters" over on Netflix. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited to see you react to this musical🤩

PinkPonytail _Girl

Damn today is one of those days, can't believe I blanked on that. thank you! 🙏

Cacaxa

To answer your question about the birds: The bird in the first song (The Horse And The Infant) was actually an eagle - an animal sacred to Zeus (god of the sky/lightning and hospitality/guests). He's king of the Olympian gods (and the one who told Odysseus to kill the baby). The bird in Warrior Of The Mind is an owl - an animal sacred to Athena (goddess of wisdom, crafts, and the strategic elements of war), who's also one of Zeus’ daughters.

Vengerin

Oh, this will be so fine seeing Morgan react to this. I hope they enjoy it!! I'm a mythology geek (mostly egyptian and greek) since I was a little girl and Epic is such a nice take on the travel of Odysseus... has things changed but as a fan of musicals and greek mythology is a must. I know they aren't seeing the comments until saga 2 but for when Morgan sees them, if they are still with doubts: Greek gods are a ton, from minor to big ones and sometimes domains (things that a god represents) overlap and you can have a god taking several dominions or two gods with the same. Ares is the god of war but Athena too, but Ares representes the power, the strenght and the might, Athena for her part represents strategy, intelligence in battle. That's why she tries to make a warrior of the mind or a warrior that thinks.

Andrew Pineda

[Mod] I’ve informed Morgan about the subtitles issues. They will pull up lyrics separately if they need clarification. They’ve also been re-listening to the first saga

Chloe Small

So happy you're reacting to thia! Just a few things I felt like mentioning: The first god we see is Zeus, God-King, father of Athena and many other gods. I'll leave it at that for now x) Athena: Goddess of Wisdom, but also the goddess of War Strategy. Ares is the actual God of War, in the sense of pillage and plunder the city. kill the men and r*pe the women. Might be worth mentioning: The god of the seas is called Poseidon, and he also is the god of horses, so he had to give his blessing fot the "Trojan Horse" strategy. So it's not a good idea to anger him. This will be important context later ^^

Jessica V

You don't need to keep pausing Jorge doesn't claim reactions. He wants reactors to watch it

GreyScale

Agreed! I mean, I like when they pause to give input and commentary, but they really don't need to pause THIS much out of fear of copyright Lol 😭

GreyScale

Prepare yourself Morgan, this is gonna be a wild ride full of emotions of all kind lol! I really look forward to your full reaction of this series!! I looked through the playlist Spiwi gave you and I think it's a great one! :]

If you watched any of Open Arms Reactions videos, Mortius AND Casper both have talked about how Jay asked them to PAUSE the videos in order to keep them under fair use!

Andrew Pineda

[Mod] You need to understand that YouTube does not work the way you are stating just because "Jorge doesn't claim reactions". Also that's entirely un-true, as I've witnessed directly from another moderator that reacted to it unedited, that all his videos got claimed.

Siri2319

Yes yes yes yes YES!!! We got another one crew!!! Also, hearing your description of Odysseus after Full speed ahead is so funny after watching MadNbooks analysis on YouTube 😂

tapdisneyintome

Well, this broke my resolve and made me a member - one I love watching - looking forward to seeing your insights Also, very happy to see some of Neals animatics in there but not spoling titles as want Morgan to get any hints Also Spy, didn't know you modded both Elijah and Morgan, you must be exhausted

Andrew Pineda

[Mod] I mod for Elijah, Mosco, and Morgan, as well as edit videos for Morgan. Thankfully it's not a fulltime commitment, so I'm able to dedicate some time to it.

Sherrin

EPIC THE MUSICAL???! I didn't expect my hyperfixation to be covered! 💛💛

SauceyRed

Fair enough. I'm interested what you think of my playlist consisting of my personal favorites, both your personal opinion and in terms of suitability for reactions, (don't mind it missing Vengeance and Ithaca sagas lmao): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLfxKhfl9lQHA1YCOLfraI5Vk2UUz25oTh Legitimately curious, if you don't mind. Yours has a few newer animatics which I haven't seen, particularly in the beginning, but otherwise it's... almost the same (at first glance).

Adrian

Someone should have defs given you a primer of the Gods and lore surrounding this series beforehand lol. So some information (Non spoilers) The war that was in the first two songs: The Trojan War. Aka Troy vs the Greek kingdoms / city states. Started when Paris, a prince of Troy, kidnapped Helen, Queen of Sparta and wife of Menelaus, The Greeks banded together to fight Troy and take back Helen (Hence the line "Secure Helen and Protect Her." The whole war is about her).. Odysseus, prince of Ithica at the time, was the greatest strategist for the Greeks. He devised the plan to hide inside a wooden horse to attack from inside when the Trojans were drunk and asleep after celebrating. Odysseus' son had also been born shortly before the war began. Now Troy lost this fight, *big time.* As in, there *is no* Troy left at the end of the Trojan War. Royal line slaughtered, city razed. Which isn't going to sit well with everone because several Gods were actually on Troys side (Aphrodite the Goddess of Beauty, who had helped Paris steal Helen. Her lover Ares the God of War, and Apollo God of Prophecy, music, medicine, and a hundred other things) So if Odysseus spared that boy, those gods would have almost ensured that he grew up to be a fierce warrior who could seek out revenge for Troy. That's why Zeus (the Eagle speaking to Ody in the first song) was telling him he has to choose: Kill Hectors son now and ensure the war ends here and now, or let him live and guarantee his wife and son will pay the cost in the future. Another important note: The Trojan War took *Ten Years* from Helen's abduction to Odysseus dropping the baby. These men havent seen their home and family in a decade. while there was a LOT of casualties in the Trojan War on both sides, Odysseus stood out as being the only general whose army faced zero losses. He went to war with an army of 600 men, and he left Troy with 600 men. Which is a gives you a good idea of just how clever and ingenious his strategies were. Now onto the people Zeus: King of the Gods, God of Thunder/Sky Justice/Law and Fatherhood. Most well known for being a wh*re, but he was actually a very good and just king, and with the exception of Hephaestus, a decent father. Athena: Goddess of Wisdom and War Strategies (Not to be confused with Ares, god of War in it's true brutality and raw violence). Her sacred animal is the Owl. Mentored Odysseus because she values cleverness and cunning, and Odysseus has that in spades. She is also one of the three Virgin Goddesses and an ace icon (Alongside Artemis goddess of the hunt, and Hestia goddess of the Hearth who were also virgin goddesses) Lotus Eaters: While there is no proof, a lot of people believe the lotus plants were weed. The Lotus eaters were just high as fuck all day every day. Epic depicts them as cute little creatures, but in the myth they were just stoners on an island.

Vex Valor

I personally love Greek mythology because of how flawed the gods are. They aren't perfect beyond human comprehension like a lot of gods are in other religions. They are human in their mannerisms and thought, but simply blessed with magic humans aren't capable of and they use it for their own selfish wills. I love it.
