IT'S SOMEHOW WORSE THAN THE NUCKLAVEE!!!

Ep 6: The Apathy were partially inspired by the story of Bartleby the Scrivener. To sum it up, it's a story about a man that became so apathetic to the world that he refused to eat or drink or move, stating that he'd "prefer not to" until he died. It was revealed by the writers that these Grimm were supposed to have made an appearance back in V1 but were deemed too powerful for that time in the show. They kept getting pushed back until, finally, V6. They seemed to have been made for this moment, in all honesty. Our heroes are at a severe low point. Their ability to trust Oz not to lie to them has been reduced to nothing (and he's abandoned them), they just found out their final boss is immortal. Their morale is completely shot. They have no other objective than to get the Lamp to Atlas, which to them in this moment seems so pointless after learning the truth. "Delaying the inevitable," Oscar calls it. It's such a perfect time for these new Grimm, that it wouldn't be unusual to not second guess the fact that they're all Tired (the use of ‘I’m tired’ was their version of ‘I’d prefer not to’) and questioning why they must do all this. But as the scene outside the house goes on, we get more on edge. The music comes back in with these strings, and the characters' pupils are blown and dull, and their voices become more and more lifeless until even Ruby starts to succumb. I also just love Maria’s line about how “No one was angry or sad or scared. No one was anything. Then… no one was left.” Like…That is one of my favorite lines of dialogue throughout this show because of just how simple and terrifying it is. God I just really love this episode and I love these Grimm. Crwby really blew it out of the park with this one. Ep 7: Maria using Gravity Dust in her weapons is so cool. Like, man her fighting style was crazy. What a badass. Our lovely little bounty hunter here was named Tock (based off the Tick Tock Crocodile from Peter Pan) and her semblance was to be basically invulnerable for 60 seconds. It’s like having a heavy-duty reinforced aura (normal aura keeps you from taking damage, but you still feel a lot of the impact and can even be knocked unconscious. With Tock’s semblance everything basically just ricocheted off her). The downside is that once those 60 seconds are up her aura will be completely depleted. High Risk. Usually High Reward…. Until Maria managed to decapitate her with her eyes closed. ….Too soon? Geez I’ve missed JNR. Glad our kids are all back together. Also meeting Saphron and her wife Terra is just precious. They seem like a cute little family. I will always laugh at the Arc Family photo though. Poor Jaune with his little Help sign surrounded by all seven of his chaos siblings.

I think if Qrow didn't drop that bottle then Ruby wouldn't have wken up, and I also think she was the only one of them at that point who could wake up because of her eyes. She seemed to have a slight resistance to the Apothy's powers

49:11 "Leave the world better than how you found it"... DANG IT MORGAN NOW I AM SOBBING. (You're context likely isnt nearly what I am thinking of, but it hurts the same)

While you’re explaining the allusions, you left out Saffron and Terra Cotta-Arc: historical lesbian poet Sappho. What works of hers remain were usually found on terracotta pottery.

And thus introducing RWBY's equivalent of Zombies! While this hasn't been stated by the crew, let's consider the similarities. Human-like physique, slow-paced, and making groaning sounds; they tend to hunt in packs but can also hunt solo. While they don't multiply by infection, they still drain people of their will to live, making them easier targets to eat. It also makes sense why bullets and fire really didn't do much damage, especially if they're meant to be like walking corpses. But I'm so glad you finally saw this episode; it was dubbed the "RWBY horror arc" due to how genuinely creepy it was. It's one of my top 3 Grimm. And yep, Maria is the Grimm Reaper. Her inspiration and design are based on Día de los Muertos, specifically La Catrina. Her story suggests something may have happened to Summer on her last mission, or at least confirms that Salem has been hunting SEW (silver-eyed warriors) for a very long time. Also, some extra food for thought. Maria is inspired by Día de los Muertos, and you hear Spanish guitar in Ruby's music (Red Like Roses). Summer is based on the Irish poem "Last Rose of Summer", so some people headcanon her as Mexican-Irish, thus making Ruby mixed Mexican-Irish & Chinese. Possibly, silver-eyed people have a theme.

My favorite Grimm! They are literally the support class of the Grimm, being weak and easily beaten but debuff the enemy and in greater numbers the effect is absolutely devastating

Legiblestew

While there are still more horrific Grimm to come in future volumes, this one always stuck with me. Its conceptually my favorite of the whole series so far. Their design is off-putting and their abilities are so terrifyingly effective. I always love seeing how people react to them for the first time. Good eye on catching Yang grab Blake's hand! I think all of us bumblebee shippers screamed when she did. Even if things are still awkward between them Yang still doesn't want anything to happen to her 🥰. To answer your question about why they guys are being locked out. You'll find out next episode. 👵👢

Ah, yes. The Cucklavee.

Adrian ruiz martinez

Sappron and Terra corrota were nspired by Greek poet, saphron of the island of lesbos, whose most surviving poems were founded in terracotta pots.

Chloe

Weekly chloe bee post yang despite being mad at her dragging blake out after she almost died is adorable. Also I know its probably not how it was intended but the way the camera goes it looks like blake is smiling big after seeing yang and weiss playing with a baby *Cough cough* prolly thinking about yang playing with a blond cat baby in the future

Perfect time for Spooky Month! Nice! Roman Holidays is a great book from what I heard. Goes over Neo's origins and how she met up with Roman. There's more to it, but that's the long-short of it. Mosco in particular became big time Neo fan after reading it. Yeah, Qrow is not going too well after that whole Oz thing. The scarecrow was close to loosing his mind one could say, much like how the lion lost his courage, followed by the wizard who's been discovered to be a fraud. Say Hello to the Apathy! Quite the company, and not the pleasant kind. You can tell CRWBY been wanting to make a horror based episode for a while now, and this was their solution. But yeah, their passive effect of demoralizing folks with just their presence is terrifying. And their screeches only amplifies that tenfold, making them like the perfect slasher monster. It doesn't matter if you can outrun them, they will always catch up. The irony of you getting tired while watching this episode, do we need to check for Apathy in your home now? Adding a tally for Badass Ruby moments. --- It seems Cinder has her own agenda separate from Salem's goal, but Salem's takes priority, much to her frustration. That Nevermore is about as big as the one the gang faced back at Beacon. And there we have it, Maria Calabera, the Grimm Reaper, badass silver eyed warrior. And then we have the underrated baddie that is Tock, her alusion is pretty obvious if you notice the details. Croc scales, sharp teeth, and the clock she carries that constantly goes tick tock; she's based on Tick Tock the Crocodile from Peter Pan. The same Croc that wants to eat Captain Hook. And fun fact about Tock, she was conceptualized due to budget restraints. CRWBY wanted to make a badass fight scene for Maria's backstory, but they were running low on the budget. At most, they had 60 seconds of funds for the fight. And they used that fact and took it literal, the fight itself last exactly 60 seconds. And Tock's Semblance makes her invulnerable for that 60 seconds, making her very dangerous. But the usage of said Semblance causes her to burn through all of her Aura once it's done. From what little that is told, it seems Tock was likely referring to Salem when mentioning Master. So Salem likely organized hunting parties to go after Silver Eyed people like Maria, explaining why they're so rare by the time we hit modern day. At least, that's how one can interpret that at least. Hehe, yeah. Saffron and Terra are the first lesbian couple we see in RWBY. And I love how casual they present it. And it seems we have hit a roadblock due to the Atlas base stationed in Argus, so we'll have to see what's that about next time.

Meet the Apathy! As arguably some of the scariest Grimm in the show, they are terrifying in a whole new way because they essentially cause depression to paralyze their prey! Fun fact, the Apathy were originally proposed to be in Volume 1, but it was decided that they were too powerful for that early in the show.

Zirkumflex

Funny seeing Morgan being concerned about the wrong episode. The Apathy is definitely in my top three of creepiest Grimm. When RWBY goes into Horror, it is absolutely peak.

CaptSamavor

Didn't known The Loud House was a RBWY spinoff :D

Phoenix_mercury

Love the detail of Weiss being the one to arson the apathy, that had to be so satisfying after the issues with her mother

Wilma Fingerdoo

A little fun fact about Maria's screams. She was in labor when they recorded them. That is how she was able to get such real screams after her eyes were sliced.

Faroth

And then they are here, the apathy, one of the most horrifying grimm of them all, they literally weaponize fear and depression

Faroth

Reason of ruby bullets dont hurting the apathy is because remember their weapons are infused in their aura, so if isnt engaged correctly then isnt as strong as usual

Mare

In the original RWBY V6 storyboard panel for that episode, Blake WAS actually smiling. And she was a bit moved by Yang and Weiss (shown through her eyes). It pains me to say that 3D animators didn’t quite capture what was conveyed on the storyboards 😕.

Kriscerosaurus

I was in a BAD place when the Apathy episode came out, and it absolutely shattered me in the best way.

David Johnson

The use of the Apathy kinda resulted in a situation similar to that on Miranda in the Firefly movie. I think Cinder has always thought of Salem as someone to use to get what *Cinder* wants. That's...not working as well as she'd like, but...

Ryan

Cheer up, Morgan! Surely the writers can't come up with a Grimm scarier than this! Right? Right? ...right?

Jittercritter

Blake doing the cat thing to Jaune gets me every time it’s so cute! Also I love the detail that the two older siblings love the baby, Ruby (the only youngest child) is the most excited about meeting Jaune’s older sister, and Blake (an only child and the only character with a 100% confirmed specific sexuality) is the most interested in Terra and Saph’s relationship lol such good subtle character writing

RetroBeastto

From horrifying grim to the blessed lesbians. Quite the change up haha

soul slicr

One of my favorite little details is that the timestamp between Tock activating her semblance and starting her timer is EXACTLY 60 seconds before they go off.

SpaghettiPolonaise

"And that shit's like 60-something pages long at this point and it's only chapter four" oh that's a mood I will never get over the fact that after Maria tells Ruby to think about the people who love her and the way those people make her feel, the next person the camera cuts to is Weiss. That seems like it's saying Weiss was the first person Ruby thought of then, and that's exactly the kind of thing I'm guaranteed to read a lot into

Tigerhawk

As far as Roman Holiday goes, I consider it such a good book on its own that I felt the need to make my own synopsis on it because the given description lays it too much into the show. He is a charismatic crook looking to make a name for himself in the criminal underworld. She is a less than normal girl whose parents only want her to be normal. Will Roman Torchwick be able to fulfill his ambitions in a new city while on the run from his old boss, and can Trivia Vanille hold onto her one friend and her own identity after being sent to a boring prep school? After a chance meeting leads to a partnership built on suspicion and lies will these two be able to work together or betray one another for their own goals. The only thing worse than dealing with crime lords, overbearing parents, cops, and popular girls is what could happen if they successfully team up.

Chloe Small

"When did this become a horror show?" I don't know why, I got Digital Circus Episode 3 flashbacks!!

So, they made that part of Tock's semblance (btw, she's based off of the Tick Tock crocodile from Neverland). For 60 seconds, she's basically invincible. 46:29 The Fucking Look On Your Face Morgan When You Realized👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼, Bravo🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 55:14 WE HAVE MARRIED SAPPHICS IN THIS SHOW!!!! LET'S GOOOO🥳🥳🥳!!! Ah, after the fucking Apathy, this is a welcomed present🎁❤️ Last edit: I enjoyed your reaction for these episodes. We went from nightmare to happiness, I'm here for that! You'll find out next episode why they're not getting into the base. Anyways, I hope you're having a lovely week and I'll see you in your next reaction. Peace✌🏼

Honestly, it's a super easy to miss/under appreciated bees moment, but I'll never get over Yang's immediate reaction to Blake nearly getting killed by the Apathy. At 27:38 she's just standing there frozen starting to reach for her and doesn't actually move until Weiss mentions that the door's locked like 8-10 seconds later. Like, you know she's thinking about their last conversation and Blake's clear guilt over leaving and how it's likely made her more susceptible to the Apathy's influence... which is why she grabs Blake's hand and gets her tf out of there while Ruby and Weiss finish handling things inside the house.
