I have been waiting... For Over An Hour🫪!!! Let's get into this🤩 0:00-0:25 Okay, that's fair. If my memory serves me correctly, there's still at least 1 or 2 more Grimm, that are Creepier, than the Apethy. Good news, you won't be seeing it till... *thinks* Either end of V7 or beginning of V8. That's all I'm gonna say! 5:05 "Maybe she's dead" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣!!! I Fucking Love Maria Man!! She's Great🤣🤣🤣🤣 8:55 Tweeddle-Dee and Tweeddle-Doo you mean?! Cause, I honestly Can see That being the inspiration for these guys🤣🤣 13:00-14:27 My vice is watching YouTube videos that make me laugh. When I'm at my lowest of lowes, I put on either one of Your reactions Morgan, that I've seen a million times over, but they make me have a great time😊. Or, videos/live-streams of Vtubers that Cracks me Up🤣🤣. Especially when they mess with each others game🤣🤣 21:39 Incase you miss heard her... like I did😅, she said "Preflexes" not "Reflexes". A Reflex is a reaction your body takes, the moment something happens. What Maria has, is sort of a uh, Prediction of Reaction. She acts quicker, and that's what saved her, and let her kill Tock when she got blinded! 35:14 "I'm suspicious of this leaf! Where is this leaf guiding us?" *gulp* Oh, you're not gonna like what comes next👀 35:23-45:15 I hate/love (but mostly hate) this part of the episode😭😭😭 (not your reaction. It's so valid and great!)!! The CRWBY will Never let this go, will they? They just keep, repeatedly, un-consentually, rip out hearts out! It basically feels like this: Me: "I'm Tired Of This Grandpa!" CRWBY: "THAT'S TOO DAMN BAD!" At 36:58, I belive that's Pyrrah's mom, but Crwby hasn't really confirmed anything. 38:08-40:25 Floor Time. I don't judge for that. I'm literally sobbing while writing this😭. 44:02 🤣🤣🤣 "I just- fucking- inhaled a tear into my mouth!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Thank you for the laughter Morgan! I really Appreciate it after that emotional scene🤣🤣🤣. The way you *machine gunned* it outta your mouth! Perfect👌🏼! No notes🤣🤣🤣🤣 46:38 Oscar got new ✨️Threads✨️ and he's looking Fine👌🏼😎✨️ 46:43 FUCKING NORA🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣!!!! Are you okay, Oscar? You got hug-attacked🤣🤣 Last edit: I loved your reaction of these episodes. From heartache to laughter and everything in-between. I loved that Ruby stood her ground when she yelled at Qrow! Seriously, I feel like a proud parent every time I see that moment. I'm excited for next weeks reaction. Anyways, I hope you're having an amazing day and I'll see you in your next reaction Morgan. Peace✌🏼

Jittercritter

I love how in the previous episode they made it sound like the Atlas presence in Argus was very helpful/there for good reason, and Morgan highlighted the fact that that usually doesn’t end well irl. And then in this episode you find out they basically put their lunatics here so they don’t have to deal with them 😭

Elijah Cole

It's finally time for my Jaune rant. Brace yourselves. Also TW for discussions of suicidal ideation, survivor's guilt, etc. So episode 8. This episode hammers home Jaune's arc for the past several volumes. Really he's been going through this for longer, but I digress. Nora and Ren refer back to what Jaune said to Cinder at Haven: "If I die buying them time it's worth it...they're the ones that matter". It's noble on the surface but the minute you start digging it hits you in the face. Jaune doesn't think he matters. At all. He has such a tremendously low view of himself he doesn't even register it. Which just brings into question everything prior to this. If he doesn't think he matters, why is he on this mission to Haven? Vengeance plays a huge part sure but if you really thought that low of yourself why even come? This is where the psychology of it gets complex. It's obvious Jaune has been struggling with self-worth issues since volume 1. At first he thought his worth came from some notion of being a man and what he thought acting like a man was, likely a side effect of his upbringing in a rural area with a majority female household. And when this worth is questioned he freaks out. He thinks his inability to do things on his own is some commentary on his worth, and he snaps at Pyrrha because of it. He learns his lesson at volume 1's end, and you can tell as he becomes less unbearable. That's him shedding the mask he created of what he thought he was supposed to be: that false sense of confidence he misunderstood from what his dad taught him. He starts being more of himself. And ironically that's what makes him succeed more. But he still doesn't quite see it. All he sees is Pyrrha believing in him. And he trusts her. So as she guides him to be more of himself and to better himself, he takes to it easier. But it's rooted in his relationship with her. He even tells her she was the first person to ever believe in him. Which may be an exaggeration but I don't doubt that's how he feels. So without necessarily meaning to, he's begun to tie his self worth to her. Not from any fault of their own. It's just like he said. She was the only one to ever believe in him. How do you not start forming a codependent bond in that situation? And then in one moment that one person was ripped away from him. As she shoved him into a locker and sent him away from the battle. She was doing it to protect him. But you can feel what developed in Jaune's mind after that: "Why would she do that unless I wasn't good enough? I wasn't good enough to save her. It's my fault she's gone." That's why he pushes himself even harder after she's gone. It's not just training. It's almost a form of self punishment. He's torturing himself watching that video again and again and again night after night. Not only just to hear her voice again but to remind himself: "she believed in you. And you let her down. You let her get killed because you weren't strong enough." This manifests in the statue scene where he says "she should be standing here". What's left unsaid but heard in his voice is "I shouldn't". He fully believes he deserves to be dead. His mission to Haven, him coming with Ruby isn't just a vengeance quest: it's a suicide mission. His statement at Haven that he wants to die buying everyone time isn't just a comment: it's his core philosophy now. Jaune doesn't see any worth in his life anymore, but he knows Pyrrha died to keep him safe. He doesn't know how to square that circle. His brain can't seem to fundamentally compute that he has value as a human being; that he's loved. Because he doesn't think he's worthy of love. He doesn't think he's worthy of anything. So he concludes the only value his life has is as a martyr. As a sacrifice to keep the ones he loves safe. To buy them time. And he's completely tied his worth to that now. It's why he panics any time the team has to split up. He's scared not just of what might happen to those he loves: on a subconscious level he's scared of losing the chance of the one thing he thinks he's good for: dying to keep them safe. You can see this in how he acts in volumes 4 and 5. He throws himself into danger with almost reckless abandon. It's like he's looking for the opportunity to die. This form of suicidal ideation is subtle, but it's still present and very real. Jaune has been dealing with this mental battle while pretending it isn't real. Because he doesn't think he matters. His semblance is almost a manifestation of his inward reality: he literally give up a part of his soul to someone else to boost them up, to give them a shield or heal them, all while neglecting himself. Sure, he has a lot of aura. But he's going to bleed himself dry eventually if he doesn't learn to recharge. He needs to worry about running out. Because he's more than just a battery. He matters too. That's why Ren and Nora need to stage an intervention at the statue scene. They're right. This has to stop. They've seen him doing this to himself. And they finally need to get it through his head: they love him. He's loved. He has value. As their teammate. As their family. And they're scared. They're scared because they see the signs of someone who is trying to and thinking about ending their own life. They don't want to lose him too. Jaune will continue battling this. It isn't a one and done thing. But the statue scene is a huge step in the right direction for him. Where he for the first time in so long accepts the idea that just maybe the people he cares about so much care about him too. And that his life has more value than as a human shield.

While Jaune is out of line, I do think he touches on a very big problem with Ospin breaking their trust. Ospin is a known liar and manipulator who basically got a whole shadow goverment inside the acadenies working outside the actual goverments. How would anyone know if ospin is secretly pretending to be oscar? Its a little bit irrational but not entirely crazy. And he just got the informaton that the person he trusted to do the right thing as part of coming to terms with what happened to Phyyra is not trustworthy.

Chloe

for the chloe bee moment of the week! Ya I got nothing this week they are barely on screen although one little fact is a lot of missing scene bumbleby fics take place during these episodes

Chyanne Smith

In Jaune's defense, all of Ospins lies means that Pyrrha basically died for nothing, he shouldn't have attacked Oscar but I can understand being angry and paranoid in that moment

Mare

16:35 Team JNR at this point (moreso Jaune) feel like Pyrrha's sacrifice was for nothing upon learning about Salem's immortality. They feel like their efforts are completely fruitless at this moment. And honestly. I can't blame them. Jaune is STILL hurting from the loss of Pyrrha's as he mainly went on this mission to seek answers and avenge Pyrrha. So getting this "Truth Bomb" was like suddenly getting the rug pulled out from under him. Nora and Ren feel the same way.

Ep 8: That instrumental of Red Like Roses during the Silver Eye talk has to be one of my favorite bits of score in the show. There’s some This Will Be the Day (V1 intro) in there too, but the RLR bit really resonates with me. Maria also just has the best lines in this episode. “Now, now, let’s not give up hope yet… Maybe she’s dead.” “Oh, Cordo, they say time changes people. But I see you’ve still got that stick right up your-” We don’t deserve this woman. Fun fact: Cordovin is voiced by the same woman who voices Kikimora in Owl House, Mela Lee. JNR literally just found out the same info RWBY did back in episode 3, that their entire mission has no win condition and that it's basically pointless, that Oz has basically been sending Huntsmen to their death in an unwinnable war. Like RWBY, I think they're allowed to be angry and upset and need a moment to sort through all this info. So like, obviously it's not Oscar's fault but he's the closest thing to Oz that Jaune can lash out at, like Qrow did, and it's a valid question. Who's to say Oz didn't take over Oscar at some point and is just pretending? We know that's not the case but the kids don't. Anger isn't logical. Ep 9: Only in RWBY can your feelings be hurt by a single autumn leaf. PYRRHA!!! Speaking of Pyrrha, the “mysterious woman” (most likely Pyrrha’s mom) was voiced by Jen Brown, the same VA that voiced Pyrrha. Also also Pyrrha hated being put on a pedestal and even in death she can't escape it. Sam's delivery on "we love you, just like we loved Pyrrha" breaks my heart! I do find it interesting that Mercury’s father had a semblance that could take away other semblances (or maybe just lock them away?) and that he did that to his own son so he wouldn’t rely on it. Honestly though, considering the bits that we do know about Marcus Black, it’s not that surprising. And oh, Emerald. Emerald, Em, my girl. Wake up, sweetheart. Merc may have said it like an ass but Cinder does not care about you. She does not deserve your loyalty. Please. Also, you should be okay to watch the intro now. All the spoilery things have passed!

Elijah Cole

Also a comment on JNPR and Jaune's meltdown: one huge factor of it is his purpose has just been turned topside over. But a bigger one is something I think should've been written into the dialogue: he's scared and angry that Pyrrha died for nothing. Which she didn't. But it was what was going through his head. And probably Nora and Ren's too. They've been keeping themselves going by believing she died for a reason. If Salem is unbeatable, that begs the question of whether or not her death was just another useless pawn Ozpin decided to throw at Salem. Just like Hazel's sister

Mare

56:51 There's some Director's Commentary quotes for Volume 6 episode 9 (regarding the red-headed woman) that might shed some light: - According to Miles and Kerry, There was a small continuity issue where in a couple shots the flowers were absent, and they were worried that if that had gone public there would be people thinking she was a ghost or something. (Which means she's not a spirit or anything) - They say they’ll never confirm who the Red Haired Woman is, but they said "use your brains" lol (This was implying it was her mother and they wanted the fandom to put "two and two" together)

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Juane, Nora, and Ren are pissed that it seems that Pyrrha died for nothing in that moment. They may be right.

Legiblestew

RWBY is very good at two things. Random horror moments. And stabbing you directly in the heart every chance they can ❤ Oscar is best boy. 🥺❤

Flufux

I still don't know how neither you, nor Mosco, nor Elijah were able to recognise Kikimora's voice actress as Caroline Cordovin. When I first watched the episode, I immediately thought, "why does that voice sound so familiar?".

Moonas

Team RWBY also reacted like that to news about Salem so nothing strange that team JNR is upset too.

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

You haven't experienced the full extent of the violence they chose in Episode 9 until you listen to the full song that was playing in That Scene. It's bad enough Jeff turned the old Pyrrha/Jaune love theme into a song for Pyrrha to sing from beyond the grave, but OMFG the *lyrics*! I'm tearing up again just playing them through in my head 😭😭😭

Rachel Mae

"For it is in passing that we achieve immortality. Through this we become a paragon of virtue and glory to rise above all infinite in distance and unbound by death. I release your soul and by my shoulder protect thee" - Pyrrha to Jaune v1

Phoenix_mercury

Also so many people get in a "guys wth?" Moment that they forget, rwby has had time to process and come to terms with it all but they was also pissed off at first, this is jnr's turn to process it

Jyoster

Yeah... The Grimm situation is certainly unfortunate. But it makes sense given the setting. Cordoven and her Argus base are certainly quirky characters. Terrible people, but fun to watch. Once more, Weiss proving she's best girl by defending Blake. The girl who most would've thought to be the last person to defend a Faunus, yet she's the first one to do it. Such a growth from her narrow sheltered life. Yeah... Team JNR didn't take the news of Oz's past well, in some cases, worse than the main group [looking at Jaune]. But yeah, you can understand where Jaune's coming from. He lost Pyrrha because Ozpin put her in such a vulnerable position, mentally and physically, till it prove too much for her and it costed her life. And now to know the same man who was indirectly responsible for her death has been lying to everyone and leading them on what they perceive to be a death march framed as a noble goal to stop Salem, yeah, it's no wondered he snapped. Does it makes his outburst justified? No. But he, along with most of the group, are still young; they still need to learn to control their emotions. That was a great moment for Ruby, she certainly can use all the help she can get. --- Emerald definitely had it rough, living in the streets. And Cinder was the first person who showed her kindness, in her own selfish way, providing Emerald with everything she could need. Sure, Cinder only wanted a loyal minion to do her dirty work, but for Emerald, I can see her admiring Cinder like a mother figure of sort. Cinder was her whole world, and with her gone, she feels aimless. Mercury many see as something like an inversion of Yang, one who didn't grow up with the love and compassion she got growing up. And there's some merit to it. Yeah, Tyrian is handled wonderfully in that scene. You hate it that's he's right, and yet you can't help but agree with him. When the psychopath is making scene, you know something is wrong with everyone else in the room. And yeah, his metal tail is cool too, sorry Ruby. That cursed leaf that brings nothing but pain and suffering! It's always the seemingly harmless stuff that prove the most painful, like the butterfly in Kirby [if you know, you know]. CRWBY always do love to cut open the Pyrrha shaped scar in our hearts. Glad Oscar is still with them, and with a new look to boot. Bold plan from Jaune, likely got the idea from Pyrrha's statue as one of the ships flew by. Given I was wearing headphones, I was able to hear the woman's footsteps approach Jaune. And he took notice of that and tried to leave, but stopped once she started to speak about the statue. That and she left the flowers behind suggests she was real, just really light on her feet when she feels like it.

Xýliandra

No. It's not sarcasm. If it was, I would've written *sarcasm* in it. The semblance came back to Mercury after his dad died. Have you forgotten his fight with Yang in the Vytal festival back in V3? He used his semblance there!

Taigan

FYI, the red headed woman (Pyrrah’s mother?) is voiced by Jen Brown, same as Pyrrah.

Zirkumflex

RT choosing violence? Must be Tuesday.

Liam Gradwell

The statue scene will never make it any easier to re-watch. ❤️😢

Meghan Ross

These were definitely two of my favorite episodes for this volume. The amount of emotion that was in these two episodes was nuts. Word advice for next week you’re gonna need a punching bag.

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Remember who did this to you...we are just here to feed off of tears

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

That was definitely Pyrrha in spirit...when Juane looked up to the sky and thanked her we see a Atlas airship. He was thanking her for the idea, along with thanking her for everything she did and was.

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

The aong playing during that Pyrrha scene is important to know

Mare

Well...to be fair, Team RWBY +Qrow had time to process the information leading up to the reunion with Team JNR. But when first hearing about the revelation of Salem and Oz, they were pretty furious too. In fact if you recall, (compared to Jaune shoving Oscar against a wall) it was Qrow that punched the living daylights out of Oz/Oscar because he was extremely hurt and felt betrayed over it.

The_Fish

Emotional damage

Jittercritter

Oh yeah whoops lol can’t believe I flipped that around

Jittercritter

Absolutely PHENOMENAL analysis holy crap

Jittercritter

The red like roses piano cover playing during Maria and Ruby’s conversation is phenomenal. And the song that plays during the Pyrrha scene is called Forever Fall 😭 this SHOW

Jittercritter

Effects of abuse and severe manipulation is a MAJOR reoccurring topic in this show Also a note about Mercury: as Ren says in v5, it’s an in-universe theory that your semblance is directly tied to your personality, your identity, your ‘soul.’ Makes you wonder what having it stolen might do to someone. Part of Mercury’s soul was quite literally stolen from him, by his own father. Brutal, but very REAL commentary of the lasting effects of an abusive parent.

August Perrin

Yeah, this episode broke me, I still can't watch it without crying. No matter how many times I see it.

Jittercritter

Blake’s reaction to Jaune’s suggestion always make me grin, girl you used to rob Atlas regularly what’s that face for? Maybe she’s having flashbacks 😅

Rod

You did ok, now go watch Mosco erupt

soul slicr

If you want to twist the knife even more, after finishing Volume 6, you should listen to Indomitable from the V6 soundtrack

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

So, regular jump scares and emotional jump scares. Got it

Ryan

CRWBY: "Morgan, it's time for your Tuesday Trauma!" Morgan: "Yes, honey..."

LikeCat

Because of every new bit of news from VIZ this song is as true as ever before... He is surely proud of what his "little indie show" had became as we are getting closer and closer to the first double digit Volume

Hi-Viz

And yet the fandom at large got angrier at Yang calling Ozpin a bastard than Qrow literally punching a kid in the face

Hi-Viz

That wasn't his semblance? Why do they have him literally say he doesn't have it otherwise?

Xýliandra

WHAT?! I was so convinced he had his semblance😵‍💫. My bad

Faroth

Dont worry, there isnt any 'grimm' creepier than the apathy... Emphasis on 'grimm'... 👀💦

Faroth

19:12 so... you noticed earlier... keep that in mind...

Tigerhawk

Ruby's "how do I laser beam monsters with my eyeballs?" is so on par because we have to remember she's about 16 here.

Faroth

As a support that rwby is basically like d&d, jaune is a paladin, and taking the oath means taking a path at somepoint, but hedidnt devided because for one hand he wanted glory, then he wanted reveange, now he want redeption and i for one think that last one is jaun, redemption protect others, thats jaune, a tank that sill take the hit for you aas long as he can stand and is the right thing to do, not now just as a meat shield but as a real defender of life

Faroth

I like emerald character develpment, in some ways is similar to whitle, trapped in a toxic parental relationship that it thinks benefit it and that "is the only way to do it", but emerald already started showing off doubts of it, and remember, emerald is based on Aladdin, another "crossdressed" character like joan dearc, aquiles, mulan and thor... Curious and curiouser...

Vex Valor

The woman Jaune meets at the statue is Pyrrha's mom. Pyrrha's voice actress also voices the mom. I understand why Team JNR needed some time alone because RWBY and co had days to process what they learned while they traveled home. Jaune, Nora, and Ren just learned it so they needed some time. I am glad Jaune quickly realized he was in the wrong for being accusatory to Oscar. He didn't choose this either and he has the shortest stick in the group since he will eventually not be him any more.

Faroth

33:20 pretty much, tyrion is based on the fable of the scorpion that stings the toad that was helping it cross a river midjourney, dooming both of them to drown

Faroth

38:30 pretty sure thats her mom 😭😭😭😭

Faroth

And being her mother, she most likely recognized jaune there, suffering, and tried to comfort him because maybe pyrrah talked about him with her by messages or videocall

Faroth

45:27 also remember the scene when jaune took pyrrah's hand when she was feeling down, there was also an autum leaf there and then another joined it. When this one appeared in front of jaune and wind blew up the fabric he has as a belt blew on the wind ... Is pyrrah's belt... It was hers...

Faroth

50:56 paladin lawful good in dnd suggesting to steal a ship Wizard(weiss): are you serious? Rogue(blake); wait, thats my job... Barbarian(yang): this guy give me with pride Other barbarian(nora): lets fkng do this!!!

Faroth

Always make me think of jaund taking an oath since he is basically a dnd paladin of redemption

Faroth

The paladin lawful good in dnd suggesting to steal a ship Wizard(weiss): are you serious? Rogue(blake); wait, thats my job... Barbarian(yang): this guy make me proud Other barbarian(nora): lets fkng do this!!!

Mare

Yes!! That’s the term I was looking for but it was on the tip of my tongue! Survivor’s Guilt! And it’s a very REAL and VALID thing to have! And yes I agree with the response above, this was a great analysis. And I’m afraid that some people may have overlooked a lot of this in Jaune’s character and other characters due to many factors like seeing them through a surface level. That kind of perspective leads to watching a scene enfold through eyes that only view things at Face Value. Like one of things about RWBY’s narrative is that not all development is in the forefront. Sometimes it’s through subtle micro moments so a viewer would need to pay attention to everything going on in the scene. Yes it may require a second watch or two but what I find fascinating is all the additional context I find when I put the scenes under a microscope. Again, thank you for sharing this great analysis

Mare

That’s NOT his semblance. He literally said he never got it back. During the Vytal festival that particular power he exhibited came from his weapon, his boots.

Mare

Yeah exactly! Thank you! The fandom’s got weird double standards. I’ll never understand how most of the angry population in RWBY use Yang as their metaphoric punching bag. And by extension Blake. So many misogynists in this fandom.

Mare

My guess is that maybe she was just shocked that it was Jaune’s suggestion of all people. Probably wasn’t expecting it from him LOL. Maybe…

Xýliandra

Fine. I'll change my comment. Done. I removed the 30:20 mark. Happy now? Please understand, I was Convinced he had his semblance all along! Why are y'all giving me This Much Shit for being wrong?! It's fine to tell me what's fact, but please for the future, be kinder about. I feel like an idiot enough as it is!

EmberPanther

Here’s a few meta fun facts that spoil nothing but are good to know. The song in the background of the statue scene is called “Forever Fall” and is Pyrrha’s theme that has played even from the beginning of the show, and has a lot of lines that I take to mean that Pyrrha isn’t gone even after death. My favorite of the lines if “Nothing even death could separate our souls, cuz you’re my final goal”, which calls back to both her view on destiny and the mantra she used to help Jaune unlock his aura. There is no official confirmation as to who the lady at Pyrrha’s statue was, all we know is that she was voiced by Pyrrha’s voice actress and is called “Red Haired Woman” in the credits.
