2026-11-04 08:00 So happy that you finally started volume seven this one’s gonna be a whirlwind. Answer your question about Ironwood. He didn’t have a beard when we first met him in volume two and three. Volume four he was starting to get a little bit of a scruff. And now in volume seven, he has a full beard.

2026-11-04 08:00 VOLUME 7!!! LET'S GOOOO!!! 4:33 "Okay, so we ditch" I'm okay with that plan😅. We don't want Weiss to be returned to captivity😬 *coughs* I mean- *coughs* her father 5:18 Actually, like Adrian ruiz martinez mentioned in one of their comments (Idk your pronouns, so I'm playing it safe), said that This volume came out 2 Years before Arcane came out. But I absolutely see the similarities!! 6:15 "Has homeboy always had a beard?" First of all, 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣!!! Second of all, No. When we first saw him in V2-3 Ironwood was clear shaved! Then later on in V4, he had like a uh, 5 o'clock shadow. Now, he has a full on beard. Ngl, it suits his face Way better than clean shaved imo, ngl🤣🤣

Woo hoo vol 7 another vol in my top 5 fav vols I'm excited to watch Current fav vols Vol 9 Vol 8 (6 and 8 sometimes switch) Vol 6 Vol 3 Vol 7 And 1-2 and 4-5 are hard for me to place I like them kind of equally idk how to explain it I think they are good And one of the bestest of girls is back ❣️ I too am a nuts and dolts shipper they are so adorable

Adrian ruiz martinez

The floating city, is also heavely inspire of old school cyberpunk ideas. What comes to mind is "battle angel alita"

BGTitan

Ep 1: They also showed off an unfinished version of the fight scene for this episode and it was still so cool! Only got better when the volume officially premiered, of course, but that shot where we just follow Ruby as she speeds forward and uses her scythe to change direction and oh my god the choreography has come so far since V4. Not Monty style, but they’ve definitely found their own groove by this point. This is also the first time we get to hear Qrow's new VA. I won't say anything about all that drama but I do think Jason Liebrecht does a fantastic job. The only real difference is that his voice sounds clearer, which I actually like. Pietro!!! Sweet man!!! His little pink bow that matches Penny!!! Our very own Gephetto (sp?). I think the only real difference with these Grimm is that they're covered in patches of ice because they've adapted to being in a tundra. The Ace Ops.... Like Aesops Fables! Ep 2: WINTER!!!! EVERYONE SHUT UP MY QUEEN IS HERE!!!!! Ironwood: I wanna protect the kingdom. Also Ironwood: Didn't have the fucking code updated in Mantle so that it's not easy to hack into! Listen, I'm not even an IT person but even I know that if you update your stuff, every piece of connected equipment needs to be updated or you leave a backdoor into system wide open! UGH!! Especially to someone like Watts who knows the code!!! Raven called him a 'disgraced Atlesian scientist' back in V5. The puddle at the end was blood. Tyrian just merced a man. Robyn Hill and her Happy Huntresses..... like Robin Hood and his Merry Men?

Adrian ruiz martinez

"Guys, im trying hard not to make this political" ohh then you gonna have a hell of a time during this volume.

Suplee215

In defenae of Ironwood's treatment if mantle without giving apoilers, he did assign Penny as protector of mantle. And he is patrolling mantle to an extent as well. Mantle is not its own kingdom. Its connected to Atlas politically so governing body has both responsibilities But yea atlas does get better treatment as its where the milotary and rich people live. But the army around atlas is also around mantle.

GlitchedLetters

Our sweet girl is back!! Everyone rejoice!! The fandom response when this episode came out was very similar, but here's a fun fact about active RWBY era: They would often release the intro to the volume before the volume, which would either be at conventions or YouTube. This gave people the chance to react and predict what may happen in the volume. But for volume 7, they didnt release the intro until the first chapter premiered. When the intro played at the end, we found out it's because Penny is in it, and they were hiding the secret. Although, many people were clinging to the hope she would come back someday. Another fun fact, Penny was actually meant to appear at the end of Volume 6, I believe back in Argus. This was scrapped, but they got far enough along with the idea that there was concept art for her outfit, or her V7 outfit is derived from it. It's very funny how you mentioned shipping WhiteRose and Nuts&Dolts, since we finally have both ships available once more. But, from someone who enjoys a good poly ship, I propose to you: Frosen Steel, being Ruby, Weiss, and Penny. Just some food for thought. 🙂‍↕️

BrightHeart

I wouldn't Equate the whole unlicensed hunstman thing to North Korea straight away. The Ace-Ops got news of an unknown ship landing followed by fighting. Plus RWBY, JNPR are technically still unlicensed since they never graduated. Its basically like the military being called after reports of gunfire in the city. With those firing the guns being Military Cadets who never got to graduate because of an attack on their military academy. Regulations and licenses are kind of needed when it comes to Huntsman and Huntresses given they carry dangerous weapons around and deal with dangerous jobs.

Jittercritter

Genuinely so refreshing to hear an old lady character like Maria being a little bit flirty towards someone else her age and it’s not treated like it’s weird or gross

Eric Smith

Raven briefly alluded to it when she was roasting them, but yeah, Watts is a "disgraced Atlesian scientist" (also apparently a doctor lol)

TheRavenWanderer

Atlas is pretty great. Actually, it's the greatest kingdom in Remnant. Tremendously growing economy. Strongest military the world has ever seen. Right now and in history. Very great. That's true. Best kingdom in the world. You can even hear it from the other kingdoms, they'll say "Sir, isn't Atlas just great?". Their words. They know it, we know it. Thank you for your attention in this matter. But seriously now, it's a bit unfair how Ironwood and Atlas is judged here in this reaction. As the audience, we have far greater hindsight of what the protags are up against. Ironwood only had Atlas when Beacon fell with his kingdom framed from the get go for the things that went down. Lionheart's betrayal only solidified the fact that he cannot outright trust the other kingdoms against Salem right now. To expect him to trust Team RWBY and co. despite them being the ones to now start hiding things from him is quite unfair. Not to mention after he actually revealed his own plans to them while they withheld so much valuable info in return is rather hypocritical on their part after that whole Ozpin fiasco. But yeah, Volume 7's gonna be quite a ride. What comes next? More so...

Mare

You're almost on the mark with the Cyberpunk them but that goes to Mantle as it was explained by CRWBY that the aesthetic was inspired by Blade Runner. As for Atlas the floating mass, reference to Atlas, a Titan in Greek mythology who was punished for opposing the Olympians by being made to hold up the sky for all eternity in North Africa after losing the Titanomachy.

Eric Smith

Iirc, Penny would have still shown up in Mantle in v6, they originally planned to cover more of what ended up being v7c1 at the end of v6, but couldn't get all the Mantle assets ready in time. Honestly, I like what we ended up with a lot more (also Penny's v6 concept art is pretty different and I prefer the one they went with)

Elias Cristerna

Ah yes the first episode with Qrow's new VA. It's good to know that when they hired Jason Liebrecht, they hired someone with prior experience voicing a recovering-alcoholic bird-man as he played my man Mordecai from the Borderlands franchise.

GlitchedLetters

I was trying to find it but I was coming up short, though I do remember it being more form fitted and darker color scheme? I could be remembering wrong. But yeah, I couldn't remember if it was that she would appear in Argus or if they would arrive in Mantle back in V6.

PheonixCantra

I feel like I watched this to fast. Now I have to wait.

Mare

45:51 "Okay so she's old"....LOL, the contrast between Morgan automatically knowing the "Spring Chicken" reference and Mattables being oblivious to the "Old person" reference. Morgan definitely knows her stuff!

TheRavenWanderer

Agreed, that was a bit too extreme. The news also hinted at murders happening in Mantle. For the authorities to enforce some kind of control on weapons isn't really surprising here. It's not like people are being completely disarmed or having their right to bear arms completely removed.

Legiblestew

This is one of my favorite volumes! Paranoid and political are good descriptors of it. You are very good at calling out future events! And you were correct in some predictions for this volume! Cannot wait to see your reaction to the ones you were right about! I'm so glad you noticed Marrow! Hes the Dog faunus in the Ace Ops. Let's put a pin in what you brought up. It'll be relevant later. Looking forward to your reaction to the next set of episodes 🐝!!

DKscribe88

Considering today is US midterm election day, it could be appropriate to get political. This volume may remind you a lot about how things are going IRL. I swear, RWBY predicted how things were going to go in a lot of ways with this. But, there are good things in it too. Penny, Pietro, Penny, new characters, Penny...Did I mention Penny?

Lexy

This volume is one of the best volumes of rwby! Also a thing to know about ironwood that isn’t out right spoken about is his semblance so he represents the tin man (oz,scareQrow, iron wood tin man, Glenda good witch,Leo LIONheart, and Salem the wicked witch) so ironwoods semblance is he can turn his emotions off to “think more logically” which is also a military tactic but the tin man wants a heart and looks for it in oz so his semblance is turning off his emotions when he needs it

CrowOfAFeather

You hit the nail on the head about Mantle and Atlas. lmao your reaction to Penny being back is exactly what I hoped it to be! What? No, no no no, Jacques doesn't have Ironwood's ear or gets to tell him what to do or who to hire. The military and the SDC are completely separate. Ironwood has 2 seats on the council and their meeting was about the embargo that was IW's orders, much to Jacq-ass' frustration. He doesn't get to tell IW anything lol It's just a pool of blood.

Elijah Cole

Ironwood ISNT the touchy feely type...but he's not really the lying type either. He's rather blunt. That hug at the end was genuine. He may be paranoid and a bit dictatorial at times...but he is genuinely so tired. And grateful to see friends again.

Phoenix_mercury

What you was trying to think of regarding the schnees was the 4 trauma responses, fight, flight(the two commonly known ones), freeze and fawn, winter is flight(she *fled* the schnee house to go into the military), Weiss is fight(she fought her father and went to beacon to learn away from under his thumb)

39

You shouted “GIVE ME THE YURI” and then Penny appeared haha

Sweg Money

Given the historical institutional Halo connection, I can't help but wonder if there's a Mantle of Responsibility joke in there somewhere

Suplee215

Remember it was Ironwood who gave Yang her arm. Or at least gave it to her father to give to her along wjth words of apperiation. So now we know he got one of the top scientists in Atlas to do so. (Also James has a ton of robotic parts as well so he knew who to go to)

RetroBeastto

Love it when people react to this episode because of my favorite autistic robot child Penny. Youre scream seeing Penny was 👌🏽 I feel like people miss judge ironwood but i think he does have good intent

Suplee215

Plus Qrow made it clear he knows Ironwood isnt a traitor in the battle for beacon. The two butt heads because its lawful good vs chaotic good but Qrow knows Ironwood wouldnt betray Oz or anyone like Lionheart did

Suplee215

Actually makes a weird type of sense that somone would have crossdisplicine training in Atlas R&D department. Making Ironwood's robot replcement goes beyond the prosthesis given to Yang. Someone would need to know enough about the human body to build that without complications

Faroth

One thing the RWBY fandom has is that is very very VERY good at keeping the secrets and not doing spoilers to reactors/youtubers

Astria Starwynd

I feel like a couple little things were missed because when the video was paused it skipped ahead a couple seconds when it was unpaused.

LikeCat

Meet the Ace Ops... one of the most obvious insparations in the show to date. With one other in this Volume. It doesnt mean that "obvious fairy tale inspiration=bad character(s) tho"

Jyoster

I'M READY!!! Volume 7 is one of my favorites, so looking forward to your reaction. Others will mention this, but yet again, the quality of the show keeps improving with each Volume. Also, heads up, Qrow got a new voice actor. Some behind the scene stuff has been happening with led to his previous one getting fired. I won't go into detail for this one. It's funny, many in the FNDM has compared Atlas as a whole to be similar to the Americas, and it's hard to argue with them in that sense. He didn't have a beard, Ironwood let it grow. We've seen back in V.4 that he stopped shaving. And it shows he's no longer prioritizing his own image, preferring to give that priority to his duties as Atlas' protector. Yeah, Winter will be a character that'll get to see more of in this arc. It'll be interesting to see where it goes from here. You know, it's funny. In their attempt to be discreet as they explore Mantle, the gang still end up sticking out like a sore thumb. A large group, multiple members having bright colors, and no attempt to hide the one person that anyone in Mantle could realistically recognize [Weiss]. Yeah, with the mention of election, it comes in no surprise that we'll have to handle a lot of politics and the dark underbelly of its system. And Yang is certainly not helping with the previously mentioning discreetness, with her kicking that drone. Though that eye roll from Blake was cute. Best girl Weiss strikes again! Not even hesitating to come to Blake's defense, she has come such a long way. Yeah, Pietro is a swell guy, and he has the coolest chair that I wish we could all have. Well, we know a certain mustache twirling man who we know is a disgraced Atlesian Scientist thanks to Raven mentioning him in Volume 5. So we have our candidate on who's to blame for the virus in Beacon. Ah, the Sabyrs, the newest Grimm species in the block. Seems to contrast with the futuristic city of Atlas, the Grimm have taken on prehistoric appearances. Fitting seeing as some of these creatures historically hunted our earliest ancestors. And yeah, seems the city's defenses aren't being handled with as much care as one would think if Grimm periodically can bypass the first line of defense, the fact that an alarm system was installed to warn people of the Grimm in the city speaks a lot to how unfortunately common this is. Ahah! The grand return of Penny Polendina! Up until this point, the FNDM were starting to accept that Penny wasn't coming back given it's been so long since we have heard anything about her. So this came as a pleasant surprise for most people. Pff! Yeah, I don't blame you for now having trust issues with Mosco, she's learned from the best of the FNDM to keep things secret from those coming into the series. It's a necessary evil we have to fulfill within the FNDM. Pff! Ahahaha! That response to the list of unauthorized things made me fall back in laughter! Yeah, the Ace Ops made quite the first impression. If Cordovin was the extreme end of unrestricted military operation, then the Ace Ops can be seen as the opposite end of that pole. We'll see more on them later on. --- Ah, Forest. Quite the energetic fellow. And we get to hear a bit more about Robyn and her Happy Huntresses. Seems Miss Hill is looking for that Seat in the Council on behalf of Mantle. We'll have to see how that goes. Hehe, Winter already winning back Mosco over. Her protectiveness of her sister shines through even in these hours of uncertainty. Oh boy, Ironwood. He's easily one of the most complex characters this show has to offer. You get where he's coming from, but you don't agree with all of his methods. Ah, Amity Tower. Probably one of the best ideas for Remnant to benefit from. And it's a interesting point since the WOR video on Dust pointed how Dust becomes inert once it leaves the planet's atmosphere, hence why there's been no successful attempts at space travel or orbiting satellites. This is a solid compromise, high enough to keep it out of harm's way, while still within the atmosphere. Given a periodic maintenance every few months or so, and it can stay up there indefinitely. And... Ironwood's plan of telling the world about Salem, the secret Oz has spent lifetimes keeping. It's very risky, but one they're being force to take if they want to at least limit Salem's influence. Rallying humanity against her would be a step in the right direction, though that won't stop those already in the shadows from allying with her in the hope of getting what they want. Oh boy... Ruby's decision to lie to Ironwood. This is easily one of the most hotly debated topics within the FNDM, one which has it split to this day. Many see where Ruby's coming from, others feel like she's making a big mistake in doing what is essentially what Oz has been doing to them, and the rest are unsure what to think of any of this. But it makes sense why Ruby is doing this. We've seen first hand what the truth did to the group, how Qrow briefly spiraled into a deep depression, and how Jaune became very aggressive and lashing out at the otherwise innocent Oscar. Imagine what it could do to someone with as much power and authority as Ironwood, not helped by him already being paranoid of Salem. Yeah, doggo boy here is an interesting case. A Faunus in such a high position as a member of the Ace Ops. It certainly speaks volumes on Ironwood's stance in the whole Faunus debate in Remnant. He sees them as equals deserving on greatness if given the chance. Though I'm afraid given the otherwise harsh treatment of the Faunus within the kingdoms doesn't bring many opportunities for Faunus to reach that greatness. Pff! I don't blame you for that initial hesitance when Ironwood went in for that hug. He's one of the last people you'd think would accept one. But given everything he's been through since Beacon, he certainly needed one. And he's genuinely happy to see another familiar face, even if both him and Qrow have been at odds in the past. "It'll be just like Beacon again!" -Penny Let's hope it's not EXACTLY like Beacon, given its current state. Bingo, Watts is the one responsible. Mmm... Too red to be Grimm I fear.

Suplee215

It also reads to me as someone who follows the rules to the T in terms kf the Ace ops. You can just sum it up as "you are under arrest for using guns and we got no idea who you are" but they liat every single infraction when they all go together

Astria Starwynd

Ok one was actually a Patreon hiccup on my end. I'll rewatch later to see where the other one I thought I saw was.

Faroth

8:38 yay. That was me! Here it is again One thing most people agreed about the weiss family, the Schnee, is that they represent the 4 responsive ways of a traumatic relationship, in this case, an abusive father: Fight: Seen in Weiss, early on, her defensive mechanism was aggression, control, and an explosive temper, driven by a need to feel empowered to avoid being hurt. she started to heal on this thanks mostly to ruby's dumb behavior. The white trailer is this too, she HAD to fight the geist grimm armor to 'prove' his father that she was capable of being a huntress, his dad put that tests as an "impossible" test, but she beat it anyway and earn her way out Flight: Seen in Winter Schnee. Her solution to household abuse was to literally run away and isolate herself in the Atlesian military to almost never speak with her family Freeze: Seen in the mother. This response causes immobilization. She coped by completely dissociating, self-isolating in the manor, and ignoring the world, getting into alcoholism and total disassociation of her own kids. She basically just let him do whatever he wants as long as she gets to not be annoyed directly by him. She is probably the more depressed of them all... Fawn: Seen in Whitley. Fawning involves pacifying the abuser. To survive in a hostile home environment, Whitley tries to obey and serve in every aspect he can to the abuser, to his father Jacques, to stay safe and "maintain a false control." So even if he seems like a brat, he is probably in the same situation as Weiss but dealing with it differently. Imagine hisnpov, he only has weiss since his mom dont put attention to them and winter leave them... then weiss leave him too, leave him alone with their dad... in the family portrait, whitley was the only smiling one because he was fawning

Phoenix_mercury

I love the detail about what ruby told IW, because she wasn't lying 🤷IW asks if they'd gotten any info from Ozpin and ruby is being truthful that Oz *did* say the lamp could answer 3 questions and he did said the questions had been used, she's just not *continuing* with what they found

Zirkumflex

Volume 7 aired 2019/2020 for context. One nice detail is that Penny has a pink bowtie in her hair, just like Pietro's. And for your shipping consideration: Frosen Steel (Ruby/Penny/Weiss)

Faroth

52:06 ruby didnt lied, she said "he told us the lamp answer 3 questions and that it was used out"... thats what ozpin said to them indeed 😅😉

Faroth

Its what ozpin said indeed

Faroth

Penny: "it will be JUST LIKE BEACON again!"

Faroth

penny's bow from v1-2-3 is on pietro's neck as a bowtie, she now has a cyber-bow

Faroth

1:03:00 it was blood

Atticus Yaps

Ruby was being "technically" correct... the best kind of correct

Phoenix_mercury

i personally enjoy getting to see whit when being a "brat", like those are probably the only times hes not having to keep up appearances as a "perfect child" and even then likely gotta be careful with what he says in case its overheard

Faroth

at least for me; weiss, winter and whitley have an amazing character development, even their mom, and overall in all the characters, weiss is by far my fav because of this

David Johnson

Ironwood - Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're *not* out to get you... Like the Lanes, and a lot like Zalem/The Scrapyard from "Battle Angel Alita."

EJ

js giving out spoiler huh?

Faroth

no, is a fake spoiler, havent you paying atention?

Faroth

Which leads to another frustrating fact: Atlas is keeping Mantle disarmed. While they are down below, right near the Grimm, Mantle is the most exposed to Grimm attacks. Yet, they are the ones left completely defenseless because Atlas doesn't let them use any kind of weapons. Anything they use is considered illegal because Atlas is afraid of the people rising up against them, though they hide that fear under the excuse of, "It's dangerous and people are being killed." I am fully on board with weapon registration and all that stuff, and I’m not even from "Gunland" , but hey! these people are already suffering, and they aren't even allowed to defend themselves without being called criminals. Apparently, not even against the Grimm! During that Grimm alert when people started shooting, the Ace Ops' immediate reaction was basically, "Hey, you guys who were talking to the Defender of Mantle and just killed some Grimm? You're under arrest for using weapons to kill Grimm." It’s more like, "Congrats, you survived a Grimm attack! Sadly, you are under arrest because it's illegal to defend yourself." And I’m not even referring to the main characters here, but the actual civilians. If a regular person manages to kill a Grimm using an improvised weapon, they will literally be arrested for the illegal use of weapons.

bwp108

Whilst we are all crying tears of joy at the return of Best Girl Penny, it does overshadow the addition the new main character. The era of Forest has begun. #FRWBY

David Johnson

"It could be either option." I could be both - pragmatic compassion.

Rachel Mae

v7 aired november 2019 just to contextualize what it might've felt like watching this at the time since this is very much a political volume

Xýliandra

Thank you for letting me know👍🏼

Taigan

It’s so much fun seeing how long it takes different reactors to realize Penny is back. Elijah figured it out from the “my daughter” line but Mosco was like you.

Vex Valor

It was quite funny how you said you love white rose and nuts and dolts is dead last reaction and I was thinking "about that" lmao Penny is alive! Nuts and dolts is my favorite Ruby ship, but I definitely see the appeal of white rose.

Adrian ruiz martinez

The thing about ironwood is that he is always wanted to do whats right, but is what *HE* thinks is right

Jittercritter

Note that the majority of Faunus in Atlas are from Mantle. Ironwood might not be against them in the same way Jauques is, but he’s most certainly not helping them either. I think Ironwood is one of the most complicated and multifaceted characters in this entire show, but you were right to clock that he is very tunnel visioned on Atlas and largely neglectful, dismissive, and sometimes just outright irritated by Mantle and their struggles. Which includes a large population of impoverished Faunus. It’s refreshing to see someone acknowledge that rather than just brush it aside.

Ryan

Remember what Ozpin asked Ironwood back in Volume 3? "if this is the size of our defenses, then what is it we're expecting to fight?" And that was just a few ships to "guard" the Amity Colosseum. Imagine what it must be like to see the entire Atlasian military deployed in vanguard formation. It'll be just like Beacon again!

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

The trope of a city above and a city below is an old one; one of the best uses was in the silent classic Metropolis (1927), where the great, grandiose city of the haves is kept running by a whole underclass of have-nots living in a slum deep beneath the surface

Lavender Onyxheart

Just so you know Morgan, you can watch the intro after episode 3, there's no spoilers after that

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

We saw Neon Cat in the tournament back in volume 3 from Atlas. Ironwood may be manipulativebut he isn't a racist...and it's blood
