Blog Entry Posted to SOL 2025-03-29
NOTE: All blog entries relating to the new rules have been purged.
This is not the status update I had planned. If you have not seen the site announcement on SOL (it's been deleted), stories with anyone under 18 in sexual situations are now banned due to action by a German pressure group.
First, let me be clear — one thing I will not do is stop writing. Period.
First, the status of the stories (pre-purge):
AWLL3.6 — I have written 53 of an estimated 70 chapters
GM10 — I have written 54 of an estiamted 80 chapters
CTL5 — I have written 45 of an estimated 75 chapters
There is come collateral material which has not been published to SOL because it is not complete:
From the Files of Fran Mercerwhich is the backstory of Fran Mercer and other characters (including Debbie V's, Donna W's, Jonathan's, Kara's, and other parents). So far, it's only available via my support sites. About 100,000 words so far
A Sailor's Diary is Ray's backstory, and is about 10,000 words covering the start of World War II. Also only available via my support sites.
Finally, I am working on a High Fantasy story, A Roll of the Die, and have about 250,000 words in manuscript form in notebooks (and about half that transcribed).
Now, to the bad news:
A Well Lived Life is simply not salvagable in any way, shape or form that would make it acceptable. Yes, I could delete all the sex scenes, but that would be a ridiculous amount of work AND would, in quite a few instances, make the story make no sense. I've written north of 10,000,000 words in this story over the past ten years, and it would take at least a year of signficant work to even TRY to fix it.
Good Medicine is less of a challenge than AWLL, but dealing with Elizaveta's situation would be difficult. Most likely I can fix it by removing the sex scenes for anyone under 18, but it's still a ton of work for the 5,000,000 words.
Climbing the Ladder has a single encounter, and that can be fixed by simply change the character's age, though it would break continuity with AWLL. BUT, given AWLL simply can't survive on SOL, I can do that without creating big problems.
A Roll of the Die hasn't yet been published except to my patrons, and only makes euphemistic references to sex. It probably needs a bit of cleanup to pass muster, but that's mostly a matter of deleting a line here or there, depending on how the rules pan out (not trying to skirt them, just don't know where the line is).
I have 100% of all my work archived in multiple places. I will continue to make it available through other means. If you check my profile, you'll find the links to my support sites. You can also DM/PM me for links.
I will provide more information once I come up with a plan.
