Some minor UX updates for SWADE Item Tables.

  • Fixes rerendering of Item Tables when Separate by Source is checked.
  • Rerenders Item Tables when Configuration is changed.
  • Rerenders Configuration and Item Tables when settings are imported.
  • Updates documentation.
  • Minor bug fixes and improvements.

My experience with Item Tables is generally amazing- since it's release, it basically became my mandatory module for Foundry. Just the fact that we have GUI to create characters makes introducing new players so much easier, so let me start from saying that it's amazing module. What I'm not really sure is keeping together parts that can be useful for general SWADE games (Character creation), and Item making module- which is reliant on specific companion books. I'd gladly see these two separated, as this adds unnecessary parts of the module to the VTT for games that might not use it. Another thing I've been hoping (as QoL changes) is possibility to filter and/or sort objects. When I'm looking for Edges, I'd love to have possibility to sort these by category or requirements, or just filter these. Requirements have recently (?) received this strict structure- these might be some sort of objects defining each specific requirements, so in theory there's something to use as a filter. When I look for gear, I'd like to be able to sort items by columns. And potentially another column added- item category. I'm utilizing this field in objects created by myself, and even basic items have it sometimes filled- so I feel like this would be useful. Powers could benefit from sorting, or filtering by rank as well. Then for item creation part, I must admit I have very little experience- but it's mostly due to it being quite new, and for now limited. I'd love some opportunity to create items with different materials as described in FC, even if it meant only updating description. Or maybe this functionality as slightly broader option. Create custom upgrades for weapons- even on the level of appending description of item with paragraph of text. It's already getting too long, but overall I love development of the module, and looking forward to see new options.

Thank you, Pic! I'm so happy to hear that it's been such a valuable tool for you. I keep debating pulling it apart vs keeping it as one module. In the end, I land on keeping it as one module for several reasons. 1. There are dependencies on SWADE Item Tables' main app that make the Character Creator and Advances apps work the way they do when an Item is dragged from the Item Tables to either of the other two. If I pull them apart, I'd have to make SIT a requirement, which then forces the user to join the Patreon anyway, otherwise, those two apps are crippled. 2. It devalues SWADE Item Tables for those who have already been members of this Patreon, and that would feel not great, I'm sure. Regarding sorting and filtering, that's on my radar. There are some limitations such as with Edges, because categories for those aren't codified; they're just arbitrary strings that vary from module to module. As a compromise, the Item Tables app has a search filter at the top that filters by text included across each row. If you want Seasoned powers for example, just type "seasoned" and watch the powers filter down to just seasoned. Same with requirements for Edges. While categories for Edges are inconsistent, you could likely make do by filtering by a keyword such as "background" which will filter categories such as "Arcane Backgrounds", "Background", "Background Edges", etc. as well as any mention of the word "background" in the requirements such as "Arcane Background (Druid)" for example. I don't know how feasible it'll be to sort by each column like columns in a spreadsheet, but it's certainly possible. Just not sure what sorting would do if it's already sorted alphabetically. And instead of sorting by rank, you could just filter instead if you really want to see powers or Edges for a specific rank. Something I do need to do, and I might do it right now, is filter out powers that are of higher rank than the character when the Advances app is opened. Item creation is tricky, and I'm still thinking on that, because I would love to have that myself. Automatically make an adamantine dagger or a darkwood staff? Yes, please! However, that would require use copy that is copyright protected, so I would either need to get explicit written permission or just paraphrase at best. Also, each material would be bespoke because they all offer unique things such as altering the item's weight, price, AP, damage, or even adding actions like fire damage. Very, very tricky, and I'm not sure if it's possible or sustainable.
