It seems from the shorts that this is when Steve meets JD(Lady Obscura) for the first time. I have a sinking feeling that our monkey friend here is why they seek out Steve to 'fake being their boyfriend'. It is a common move for people that are trying to peacefully avoid a handsy person ( yes, I'm being overly polite with certain words here) that hasn't learned that 'NO' is a complete sentence.
