Most Harlequins who venture out from the sterile abandoned Angel cities do so because they are heretics/miscreants and depending on where they settle they will be influenced by their environment. Many pilgrim clowns who came into the court of Infernals became malevolent jesters after millennia of demonic frequencies. Some fell into the courts of Godheads and Fae-types, altering their genetics further.

THE CLOWN-FEAR

Farm fowl who have never known a world outside their cages will instinctually panic when shown the shape of a raptor bird, a form they have never encountered. Deep in their DNA is hardcoded with a fear response, the same biological alarm exists in many hominids when they encounter a harlequin-type entity. In the past an infernal influenced predatory Harlequin left such a horrible scar on the humanoid consciousness that it has reverberated into their genetics.
