-ARAKNIDS-

like harlequins; the instinctual hominid fear of spiders goes beyond clumsy mammalian perception. Arachnids were such a horrific force in the primordial times that their miasma is stained into sentient's DNA to always remind them of a true predatory enemy. In the lawless era post-SCHISM much of the good work was lost to war or not maintained by those who had kept the godmachines functioning. Keeping the budding planets ripe for inheritance was the job of security angels who left for civil war and never returned, and in their absence wild superpredators infested these fertile territories. The Jaguars stalked the nebulas and the Fenrir ancestors chased stars, but the spiders weaved webs around whole solar systems and stopped their rotations. Planets would be sucked dry while massive webs were weaved across each planet in the stars grasp and once the orbitals were devoured the spiders smother the sunstar and drain it into nothing. Entire star systems went dark with only giant ravenous spiders making nests in the dark dead space.

How exactly they have infested TARTARUS is still unknown but they are not welcome within it, The Cyclopiks and Hecatoncheires attempt to curb the spider infestation and even defend inmates at times. The Dragon principalities at the bottom of TARTARUS have unknowingly protecting the rest of reality by warring on the spiders, keeping them contained to the bottom of the great prison.

There has never been an attempt communication between the spiders and any Godhead pantheon but (predictably) the infernals have tried and failed to make alliances with them.

I see that Aborted One purple, are they invasive extra-dimensional beings like the color implies or just another native inimical threat to reality itself?

The great reveal. I remember the ancient whispers of their existence in passing Turning phobias into instinctual genetic memory is amongst my favourite ideas. Love it

We finally get to see the Arachnid Tyrants!!!!!!!

I had the the same thought. If true, it gives insight into the purpose infestation of Tartarus. The spider and the snake are both deceivers after all... Edit: just noticed the broken halo as well

I'm reminded heavily of the giant white spiders from the Larklight books - ancient primordial beings that spun webs between protoplanetary debris, inadvertently keeping life from forming. Of course, this does beg the question: How would beings like ANANSI or SPIDER GRANDMOTHER factor into this? Or even the myriad of mythic creator-deities linked to or depicted as spiders. The spiders are predators, yes, but predators are a necessary aspect of any ecosystem. Even the Aborted Ones may find themselves trapped within their estranged cousins' webs (I see that purple hue there!).

YOU MAY BURN OUR WEBS, BUT YOUR FLAMES WILL FLICKER AND FADE, AND WE SHALL COME CRAWLING BACK TO FILL THE VOID WITH SILK AND SHADOW
