WE CALL ON THE WISDOM OF THE ROYAL VIZERS

Some of you have preemptively dropped some good candidates but I want to officially announce the openings for new dragons to add to the WYRM lore. My only rule is that the dragon must be from established mythology in some form, so if you have any interesting WYRM candidates from your region/culture please share.

(For those who already blessed me with the knowledge of several dragons, if you had one you favored above the others post it here)

Hmmm hard choice maybe Níðhöggr or Y Ddraig Goch?

Thyrus. One of the most famous dragons of Italian folklore, a river dragon that besieged Terni in the Middle Ages. One day, a young and brave knight of the noble House of Cittadini, tired of witnessing the death of his fellow citizens and the depopulation of Terni, faced the dragon and killed it. From that day, the town assumed the creature in its coat of arms, accompanied by a Latin inscription: "Thyrus et amnis dederunt signa Teramnis" ("Thyrus and the river gave their insignia to Terni"), that stands under the banner of the town of Terni, honoring this legend.

Ok question. Do Chimera’s, and Cockatrice count because they seem to blur the lines for some people when it comes to Dragons. So just curious if they’d count?

Donavan Campbell

If not then I pick either The Lambton Worm, The Guivre, or Ouroboros

It’s not really mythology, but the Jabberwock might be fun, Lord of the Land of Looking-Glass and Master of the Mad, might be a bit too whimsical for WYRM though, I’ve always liked it though

Mikhail Ward

Y Ddraig Wen and Y Ddraig Goch.

Kyuile

The Gargouille, French aquatic dragon that serves as the inspiration for gargoyles

Walker L Taylor

Huanglong, the Yellow Dragon and Rahab the Sea Monster are two I would like to see explored in your setting. The Pytho/Python of Greek Mythology would be another interesting subject.

Dreadcrown_of_Swarms

Since JABBERWOCKY has already been suggested, I put forth my #1 Choice: VRITRA, the Asuran River-Blocking Dragon Serpent that challenged the mighty Indra. Drought given vicious and violent form.

Hellbender93

Bakunawa from Filipino myth. Huge cosmic shark dragon that in the past devoured moons and is the cause of eclipses. Sensitive hearing causes it’s attempts to eat the current moon to be thwarted by the clanging of silverware.

How about a dragon and a dragonslayer? Princess Thakane and the NANABOLE from the Basotho of South Africa. Thakane was the daughter of a village chief who set out to slay the NANABOLE in order to use it's skin to make clothing for her brothers. The NANABOLE are water-dwelling dragons who glow brightly at night and emit clouds of red smoke. The WYRMS reside in a sunken village where they are tended to by the village's last survivor. obv im paraphrasing alot but this story is cool because its a cool subversion of dragons kidnapping princesses and all that. also maybe blue ben from british mythology

Jackson Parker

I’m sure aspects of the Rainbow Serpent myth could easily changed and twisted enough to be a very suitable WYRM candidate.

Wintermute

MASINGI. The great healing serpent from Shangaan culture whose abilities could heal any illness. Summoners must sing to Masingi as he lives in a deep hole and is hard of hearing - his visage is terrifying enough that most people run away before they can fulfill their request. KIRIMU from the Epic of Mwindo would be a great choice as well. Master of the deep forest, with seven heads (seven eyes and seven horns too) bearing dog-like teeth and the tail of an eagle. Very fond of eating villagers.

Eldiabeto

Not sure if you consider them a dragon, but the Greek Typhon is a very interesting one and was considered by many to be a dragon in later interpretations, and might fit well

Glarn Boudin

The Grootslang of South Africa.

Dead Man Talking

Stumbled across Chudo-Yudo and Zmey Gorynych from Russian myths.

I have three, forgive me if they've been mentioned before: Leviathan-the biblical/Jewish Qabbalism version. It's massive and eats 300-mile long fish like they're nothing (probably based on, or inspired depending on your religion, Jormungandr and would rival him in size). I don't remember seeing him around; his description of having scales and breathing fire makes for a draconic image. Some incarnations/depictions have 7+ heads. Often conflated with Hell, usually the sin of Envy, and can also be a living Hellmouth. I personally prefer it as the opposite: a divine beast, who along with its two counterparts Behemoth and Ziz were the final animals of Eden and, when standing on one another's backs, can reach the throne of God (order goes Leviathan, Behemoth, Ziz if you're curious). Two versions of why there's only one of each: God created two of each, but when Adam fell, God saw that the three divine beasts would destroy the world should they breed, so he killed their partners. The second version is that Behemoth and Leviathan were actually a mated pair, but when Adam fell God made them mortal enemies to keep their children from overwhelming creation. I guess the Ziz just got shafted in that version, or they liked kinky threesomes. Wani-A Japanese sea dragon that roughly equates to 'shark' or 'crocodile.' An oceanic crocodile-shark dragon sounds pretty awesome to me, personally. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wani_(dragon) Yig, Father of Serpents-the cheeky pick. Yes, I'm the guy who wants you to draw the Cthulhu Mythos. This would be a neat Venn-diagram-style crossover. Yig is a Great Old One that is the god and source of all reptiles, with a particular fondness/affinity for snakes. Considered one of the least hostile of the Great Old Ones, to please this deity requires only consideration for his children, while cruelty will bring his swift, terrible wrath. Sorry for the length and suggesting more than one. And being so late.

Hey there, don't know if you still take suggestions but another dragon like being could be Shesa/Shesanaga/The Nagaraja or king of all snakes, but i don't know if it integrates in WYRM since he is practically a god.
