Prey review

Its was alright. Definitely not better than P2 but I'd put it right under Predators 7/10. And like Predators its focuses on allot of wrong things (imo) in its own movie.

Feral was cool. 9/10 with mask on but 3/10 with mask off. I think ADI just finally gave up with trying to do good predators faces. His sword/spear/shield were great though, loved his red laced cloak and the pronounced shoulder spines

The wolf/bear/cougar fights felt and looked like a farcry game. I was expecting so much more from this area but I'm sure the hulu budget wasn't the best.

The Comanche stuff felt unauthentic but the action overall made me happy. I could tell they've started putting the predator actors head in the neck in this one though, some of those sideshots made it obvious and gave him a bit of a chicken head. And where the fuck were his claws? He's got little nub finger tips and that bugged me.

Hope this leads to a "bloody sands of time" series where we get preds hunting humans across the centuries

I definitely agree with you. When the Feral Predators mask came off I was excited. But all I found was disappointment. That being said, the movie in general was leagues above that trash called The Predator. I will take this somewhat wonky looking guy over that big Upgrade monstrosity every day.

What makes you say the Comanche stuff is inauthentic? Tbh I wanted the whole thing to be in Comanche tbh - kinda took me out of the whole thing seeing them talk in English to the fur trappers. Shield Pred was fun, glad they're tapping into the story potential of Predators in various human cultures across time. Personal idea I'd like is seeing the Predator hunting other alien quarry for a change, drop them on a deathworld or something. I feel like they need a win after this many cinematic Ls.

Hulu has a full comanche dub. You'll have to go to the extras to get it if that's where you watched it, makes it so much better

A full on comanche dub probably would’ve helped but they all looked/felt very modern imo, the girl in particular does not pass as a full blood native to me, she just looked like aubry plaza in cosplay. The boy hunters looked like skinny commercial models (where were all the men/father hunters?). I also feel the time period and setting were wasted. Comanche were some of the best warriors and killers/slavers on the continent and fought in some crazy wars that would suit a predators attentions better. It felt like they used the powerful name as a thin dressing for recognition to tell a meh story. But I can understand the budget kept things lean. Preds on other worlds is a great idea but would be expensive and some dopes at disney would have to shoehorn in humans somehow. Maybe something like scarface’s story in concrete jungle? a bit of human narration over a predator-centric story. One can dream. And yeah as a someone who’s rooted for the pred to win since he was a little kid watching P2; the predator needs to get solid W where he survives the movie.

It's fun to dream! Favourite bit was Pred taking out all the fur trappers in that forest hellscape but otherwise most of it was just okay for me. May as well go animated with Predators hunting on other worlds, take a page from the comic material. For me that's my ideal way of showing fantastical things like aliens instead of a $200 mil monstrosity that looks like gray-brown sludge (see: MCU). One day the Predator will get a good win... just not this one.
