Open Range- Thank you very much for your wonderful reaction to Open Range, Reds! I am so happy you enjoyed it!! I love this movie! It's one of my all time favorite Westerns, along with Tombstone and Wyatt Earp! Both Kevin Costner and Robert Duvall as Charlie Waite and Boss Spearman are phenomenal throughout this movie as its two leads!! And Kevin Costner did a fantastic job directing this movie as well! He knows how to direct for sure, and he always wanted to direct a Western, after having already acted and starred in at least two Westerns... Wyatt Earp and Dances With Wolves. I've loved these two actors in a large number of their movies very much! And Open Range is one of my favorite movies for the both of them! I love their characters in this movie so much! I love seeing the strength and honor in Boss, as well as his love for Charlie and Button, and Mose too. And I love seeing Charlie's strength and fight to break free of his dark past and the guilt that has come from it. As well as seeing his love for Sue. I absolutely love, love, love their love story throughout this movie, which I will talk more about shortly... Robert Duvall tragically passed away not too long ago, back in February of this year. He was truly a phenomenal actor, with so many phenomenal movies such as this one, Newsies, Secondhand Lions, Phenomenon, The Judge, and The Natural, etc... Quite the legacy left behind for all of us to enjoy. He will be missed. So, rest in peace, Robert Duvall. Back to Open Range... I also absolutely love both Button and Mose, played by Diego Luna and Abraham Benrubi. Both of whom I also love as actors as well. I know that you know Diego Luna pretty well, especially after just seeing him in Andor and The Terminal. And you may not remember, but you have also seen Abraham Benrubi before too. He was in an episode of Once Upon a Time, in season two's thirteenth episode, titled... Tiny. He played one of Tiny's giant brothers... Arlo. But back to their characters here in Open Range... I love both Button and Mose. Sadly, Mose is tragically killed fairly early on in the movie, after us having gotten to know him just enough to love him. Mose is a gentle soul, who loved Boss, Charlie, Button, and Tig, and who deeply respected both Boss and Charlie for taking him in, in spite of his size. And I love Button's backstory upon us learning that he had been taken in by Boss after finding him sadly eating out of a cafe garbage, and living on the streets. I love seeing Boss' soft side around Button, and I just love button's playfulness. Especially with Mose, while also seeking approval and admiration from both Boss and Charlie. In regards to how old Diego Luna was at the time of filming this movie, and him playing a sixteen year old boy... I looked it up because I was curious, and I learned that Diego Luna was twenty-four at the time of this movie. And while he is definitely older, I think Diego Luna does a fantastic job a making himself appear younger than he is, in order to play this role of sixteen year old Button. This isn't the first time an actor plays a much younger character. This happens all the time in Hollywood, for whatever the reasons are. Grease certainly comes to mind. Michael Gambon plays Baxter, the main villain of this movie. We don't really see Baxter as much as we would expect to see the main antagonist in a movie. He's really not in this movie much at all, until the end fight, and briefly in a scene much earlier on. But for what we do get of Michael Gambon in this movie, he is certainly a threat and a strong character. Sadly, Michael Gambon also passed away fairly recently as well, back in September of last year. While he plays a villain in this movie, he does so brilliantly. Michael Gambon is likely most famous for playing Dumbledore in six out of the eight Harry Potter movies, after which Richard Harris who originally played Dumbledore in the first two movies, also tragically died too. Michael Gambon was a fantastic actor as well, in other marvelous movies as well, including Sleepy Hollow and Amazing Grace. Rest in peace, Michael Gambon. I love Sue and her brother, Walter, as well, played by actors Annette Bening and Dean McDermott. Annette Bening is a fantastic actress, playing a strong female lead within this movie. And while her brother, the Doctor isn't as big of a character in this movie as I wish he was, I really enjoy his character a lot too! I haven't seen either of these actors in too many movies, if any outside of Open Range. But I enjoy them a lot, and I would definitely like to see more with them! As for Charlie's and Sue's love story... Like I said above, I really love their love story very much. I think it's really beautiful. This movie does a fantastic job at developing their relationship and building their love for one another, even in a very short time. Which not all romances in movies are good at doing, mostly because a lot of love stories, especially in today's movies and even television shows too, feel very rushed, or just not well enough developed. Or the actors may not always have good chemistry with one another. But Kevin Coster does brilliantly at directing their characters and with helping to develop Charlie's love story with Sue. I love them! Personally, I enjoy love stories in period piece movie, more so than I enjoy them in most of today's movies set or made in the early 2000s and onward. Because back in these early times in our history, life was most certainly different. Almost more simple, in spite of life also being chaotic in most time periods in their own ways. Love was different back then. Especially in the Western days. Life was also shot, just like you mentioned too, Reds. So, yes... People fell in love more quickly, especially in the movies perhaps. However, I believe it. As for the remaining characters such as the townsfolk and even some of the bad guys... I really enjoy them all as well. I don't think there are any bad characters throughout this movie. If there is anything more I want from this movie, it might be more backstory for both Button and Mose. And lastly... I really love this movie's music, composed by the famous composer Michael Kamen. Most famous for composing music for movies such as Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Frequency, the original X-Men movie in 2000, the Die Hard movies, the Lethal Weapon movies , The Iron Giant, 101 Dalmatians with Glenn Close from 1996, and The Three Musketeers from 1993. So much, and what music sensational scores!! Especially for Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves... Some of my favorite music in movies to date. Overall... I love Open Range. So, thank you once more for watching this movie for me, my dear friend! Your reaction was fabulous to watch, like always! :) Sincerely, Heidi
