Billy Rose's, Jumbo- Thank you so much for your marvelous reaction to Billy's Rose's Jumbo for me this month, Reds! I really enjoyed watching Jumbo again with you, my dear friend! I really hope you enjoyed it too. Jumbo is such a beautiful, wonderful, and fun classic musical! I absolutely love all four of this movie's main leads!! Especially Jimmy Durante, whom I love so much! Jimmy Durante is a famous comedian, singer, songwriter, and actor in his time. You have probably heard some of his songs including... What a Wonderful World, Make Someone Happy, As Time Goes By, and Smile. I'm sure you've heard at least his version of What a Wonderful World. However, Jimmy Durante is most likely most famous for singing Frosty the Snowman in the cartoon classic... Frosty the Snowman that is on television every year, and I am sure you have likely seen this and his him sing Frosty too! I love Jimmy Durante as an actor for his movies, Jumbo and It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, etc... But especially here in Jumbo as Pop Wonder! Yes... He is a bit of a gambler, criminal, and a louse in this movie, but Pop Wonder is a fun character too. Jimmy Durante is a brilliant comedian known for his raspy voice and big nose, and he made quite the career from these traits. Love him! Stephen Boyd, Doris Day, and Martha Raye are all sensational too!! Doris Day is famous for a lot of classic romance movies. Nothing in particular stand out other than Jumbo for me, but I have seen her in a number of older movies, and she's adorable and fun in them all! But I really lover here in Jumbo as Kathryn, or Kitty Wonder! Stephen Boyd isn't famous for a whole lot, other than a bunch of other classic movies I have never really heard of or seen. However, aside from Jumbo, I also love him very much in the classic movie... Ben-Hur from 1959, which was the first movie to ever become nominated for and to win eleven Oscars! He is marvelous in both movies!! I love him here in Jumbo as Sam Noble!! His may be quite deadpanned, but he plays this role in this way because he is playing a character trying to avoid getting close to anyone, especially the Wonders and Lulu. So, his demeanor and lack of emotions throughout most of the movie makes complete sense. And Stephen Boyd's singing voice... Absolutely phenomenal! I love it so much!! I've always felt that he has one of the most beautiful male singing voices in any musical, which says a lot about Stephen Boyd as a performer! :) And then we have Martha Raye as Lulu, who is absolutely hilarious throughout Jumbo!! She is actually my favorite character between the four main leads, if I really think about it. She makes me laugh so hard throughout this movie! Especially thanks to her many wonderful and hilarious facial expressions. :) I can't recall Martha Raye in any other movies, but she too has been in a number of classics. I love her!! :) The music and songs all throughout this classic musical are all fantastic too!! Some of my favorite songs are Over and Over Again sung by Doris Day and the ensemble, and my absolute favorite song is easily The Most Beautiful Girl in the World Sung by Stephen Boyd, because I love his voice so much!! And this is such a sweet and lovely song! :) All in all... I love this classic musical very much! It's not one of my favorite musicals, but it is really sweet and a lot of fun! And the four main leads are phenomenal!! :) So, thank you for watching Billy Rose's Jumbo for me, Reds!! I truly appreciate it! :) Sincerely, Heidi

I think that is why he sounded so familiar. I have heard What a Wonderful World and Smile and of course I've seen Frosty the Snowman on tv lol. I've also seen Ben-Hur before its one of my husbands favorite movies. I haven't seen it recently nor do i remember much about it so I didn't recognize Stephen Boyd at all.

Absolutely!! Jimmy Durante is famous for singing Frosty the Snowman. As well as his version of What a Wonderful World. He isn't the only classic singer famous for What a Wonderful World, as Louie Armstrong is also famous for singing this song too! Also famous for singing the song... Hello, Dolly! in the classic musical... Hello, Dolly! which I also requested from you some time ago too! Smile is also a great song too! And yes... Stephen Boyd is phenomenal as Messala in Ben-Hur... Judah Ben-Hur's childhood friend who comes to betray Judah and turn against him upon becoming corrupted by the Roman Empire. What an incredible movie as well!! :) Thank you for your fun response, Reds! :) Sincerely, Heidi
