I was also very confused after watching the first episode 😭 I never heard of Moon Knight either until watching this show for the first time. I don’t want to say much due to risk of spoilers, but I think most of your questions will get answered! Regarding Steven’s nightly routine, I think he might have been slightly aware of his “sleep walking” as he tells the gold statue man that he wakes up in odd places and not remembering. Even in this episode, it’s really hard to determine if what we saw was a dream or if it really happened 🤷🏻‍♂️ So, in my opinion, I think Steven takes these extra precautions to ease his mind. The tape on the door is to help Steven determine if he ever left his apartment. The sand on his floor is to keep track of his footprints if he does leave. The chain to keep him in bed. It’s a lot for him to do, but even after all that, how could he ever leave his room without knowing? There is definitely a huge mystery to it all, and I am glad you’re intrigued 😁
