Hi! For the past month I was struggling to find a good printhouse to create this deck. Noone gave me a guarantee that the gold foil on black and white print will not slip even slightly compared to the original design. Some of the printhouses said the gold can move up to 1cm in either direction, which automatically disqualified their offer. After a long and fruitless search, I came back to my local printhouse who gave me another offer - more expensive but more precise. A new technique of foiling that minimised the displacement of the gold to  0.5mm! I decided to risk it all and give it a try. This project consumed a lot of my time already - giving up was not an option. Yesterday I got an e-mail that the prints are ready. 100 decks up for a pick up ✨

The gold foil looks amazing! I'm really happy with the texture of the paper which was coated with a soft to touch layer that prevents the surface from scratching and being stained with fingerprints. I'm really satisfied with the quality of the print too but upon close inspection most of the designs have a slight displacement of gold. It doesn't really stands out too much though. Cards are 70 x 120mm and shift of gold usually doesn't reach even a 0.5mm

Three design are affected a bit more. The black filling of the background doesn't meet with the golden rim.

I showed decks to my friends and family. They didn't notice the misplacements and when I pointed it out they all said that it's seriously nothing much. I'm a perfectionist myself and since i know how the designs should look like - all of the mistakes are standing out to me way more than to anyone else.

I'm standing in front of a decision. Should I reprint the designs that have bigger displacements without any guarantee of print coming out better or just leave it as it is and let people have it?

This project already consumed a big sum of money. Reordering individual designs will kick up the price of a whole deck without really giving me any guarantee of it being any better. On top of that I still face buying boxes to pack the decks in.

What are your thoughts? Is it ok for few cards to have small misprints?

I think that since you have let people know about the small misprints its fine, especially since you have no guarantees that reprinting wouldn’t be better. I think they look really beautiful and I can’t wait to get a copy! 😉❤️

Yes, I totally think the minor flaws are acceptable, especially for a mass produced set like this. They look so dope!!

I WILL BUY ON SIGHT, but in all seriousness I understand how it feels to want your creation to be perfect. However, upon looking at these I can honestly say that I would be more than happy to purchase them as they are, hell if you need help looking for boxes or funding I will help with that as well. I know I’ve been excited for these for some time and I’m sure plenty of others feel the same. You make the ultimate decision because it’s your hard work, but I’m glad you reached out for more opinions!

They're minor flaws that ultimately will make little difference to the owners of the decks. Because we know about them, and because the designs are so beautiful anyway, there's no need to spend more money for no guarantee. They're still absolutely gorgeous! 💖💖💖

Printing is not always a perfect science, but these look so beautiful and well done and the margin of error is so minuscule. The misprints aren't that noticeable though. They look like they're great quality too and durability is important for tarot decks.

I think it's gorgeous like this ! Save yourself time, energy and money and let it go, we'll be thrilled to have it and won't mind the small misprints :) Furthermore, I've got the feeling that you may always find some flaws no matter the quality of the printing ^^ Perfection doesn't exist, let alone in printing 8'D

Take my money! I agree with your family. I wouldn't have noticed if you didnt point it out.

I totally agree with the other comments. The cards look gorgeous even with the slight misprints. And if it can save you money, then I think it’s a small sacrifice to make that will help save more on an already expensive venture. Personally, I will buy this set immediately regardless of small misprints - it’s expected with mass produced things. So excited to finally pick one of these up! I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time! 💯⭐️💕

Of course! Such small details are nothing compared to how beautiful the whole deck is! Also in a few years they will be 'rare missprinted Tar tarot cards, first edition' xD and please don't make them any more expensive, I'm poor but too hyped not to get them x"D

To be honest I think the slight misalignment makes them look less industrially mass produced. They look a little more independently done and considering these stemmed from traditional art, that’s kind of perfect.

Corvophelia

I think they're gorgeous as is, and would definitely buy a deck! How will they be available for purchase?

Chamaxo

Give them away!! It is really no good risk-reward-ratio and no one will really bother :) great job, well done <3

I think the slight imperfections make them even more beautiful! They’re gorgeous as-is and I wouldn’t change them at all.

I know some creators on Etsy will offer items with imperfections at discounts, but I’m also aware that planner stickers with foil are almost guaranteed slight flaws because to reproduce until there are only perfect sets is extremely costly. The decision is yours to make. To be honest, as long as there’s a disclaimer that there are imperfections and none of the imperfections are glaringly obviously, I think it’s fair to sell the sets. I’m really interested to get my hands on sets for a myself and a friend.

Stick to the current ones. The small bit of displacement actually gives it a lot of character

Camjaws_jack

Knowing the urge to perfection, let me tell you, they look absolutely stunning! Stick to them, you don't need to reprint them somewhere else, they look amazing! I definitely want to have them ❤️😍❤️

having a few imperfections makes it all the more personal. i really enjoy when i can see the humanity of something slip through the cracks. i understand that as a perfectionist you resent the misprints, but i prefer a couple small errors

Kilala

They are gorgeous! I’m hoping I’m fast enough to grab a deck because I truly believe these will go fast! 😍 amazing work!!

Emma

I would buy as is! They’re gorgeous, and in the case of a possible sell out you could print a new set with everything fixed and raise the price a bit for the higher quality 💕

Cheyenne scialabba

I totally plan on buying the deck and the little errors are really nothing to be too concerned about. Your honesty with your fans is honestly the best thing. I love your work and the cards look beautiful! Don’t let the work go to waste

I’m a perfectionist myself so I can’t see what you see but I do understand the struggle with this- honestly I think you were VERY lucky to find a printing company with such a small rate of displacement and although it’s good to strive for perfection I would honestly buy these on sight, you can clearly see the hard work put into it and like I said earlier it’s such a minimal displacement that you’re probably the only one truly noticing it as something to factor in. I think they came out great and it’s ok to compromise those small mm’s considering you do have to keep cost and your own economy in mind as well! I personally love this deck♥️
