The Expanse 2x08 Full Length Reaction

I love this episode for various reasons. There's not much action happening (even the final bridge scene), it's more character progression, decision making, pushing the story along and connecting pieces for us and for the characters, rather than big grandiose cliffhangers. I love these kinds of connective episodes. And one thing you noticed at the start, the lack of cold opens. It's the reason why this show in particular is hard to sync up. The original SyFy edits had cold opens, but after they got picked up by Amazon for seasons 3 and onward, they decided to do away with them and re-edited the first 2 seasons to match. Which is crap, if you ask me. Stop messing with the original!

Hooray! Just in time for my lunch break! Also, you are now formally introduced to my two favorite secondary characters in The Expanse; Praxidice Meng; The quiet, loving, compassionate heart of the Belt and Carmina Drummer; the hard edged, unforgiving and badass speartip of the Belt; respectively.

This is the episode that sealed my love for Drummer. I already liked her character before, but this episode pushed it to the next level. Especially that moment where Alex helps her up, then she grabs his gun, shoots the two Belters, and then walks herself to the infirmary without any help. Also, it's worth noting Cara Gee's amazing performance in this role. If you watch some interviews with her, you'll realize how different she is in real life and how much work she put into the character and the voice acting. Most interviews I found on YT do contain Expanse spoilers, but this short one is spoiler free: https://youtu.be/qkCpFjtKTdQ

RIP to the first 3 seasons of the expanse leaving amazon prime :(

Wes Chatham absolutely nailed this episode. The little eye twitch on the "what the hell happened to you" line... man's brilliant. Terry Chen is also really good here

37:58: This is a small scientific inaccuracy. The ploy is, cut the oxygen and leave them breathing nitrogen. (There's a lot of scientific jargon about atmospheric mixes for space missions; the long and the short of it is full oxygen at partial pressure is breathable and reduces the strength requirements of pressure vessels, but pure oxygen makes fires burn really well, so an oxygen-nitrogen mix at 1 atmosphere of pressure is safer overall.) But the human body can't actually detect a lack of oxygen, just a lack of *air.* You can feel it if your throat is constricted so you can't breathe well, or if you're trying to breathe something that isn't air (like water), but your body can't actually tell if the air has enough oxygen in it. And the body shuts down REAL quick if it can't get oxygen, the most they'd probably notice is feeling lightheaded and dizzy, then. . . well, not even "out like a light," more like "I didn't even see someone reaching for the switch." However, being Belters, they might well be more attuned to the signs of low oxygen, since knowing if the air you're breathing is actually breathable is a crucial survival skill in the Belt.
