For the children? For the chicken!

Bobbie on the shore is one of my favorite scenes in the whole series, I think it's the music that always makes me emotional ("On the nature of daylight", anyone? btw @Jacqui, have you seen "Arrival"?). Also RIP Lt.Lopez - it sure would have been nice to seen an ocean on Mars, but an ocean on Earth will do for a change

Nice to see the continuation of the Expanse; it's such a great show! But I'm wondering: did I miss some sort of notice about why it's been 2-1/2 weeks since you're last post? I don't mean that to sound like an accusation. If you had something going on in your life that you needed to deal with, or even if you were just on vacation, I'm fine with that. I really am. It just would have been nice to have some sort of notification. I've just been missing your reactions. 😊

I love how they used the scene with Bobby and Nico to explain the reality of Earth with such a huge population. Everyone lives on “basic” which just keeps everyone alive but provides for no fulfillment. The opportunities for professional advancement are so small in proportion to the population that, compounded with corruption from the rich and powerful, the chances of making it out are small. Martians believe that Earthers are lazy, and choose to live their lives on basic assistance. Whereas the truth, as in so much, is more nuanced.

Jacqui: "Clever girl." Me: "Most gunnery sergeants are likely clever." Several years ago a veteran of recent US wars, a Marine sergeant working on a degree, told me to not give a gunnery sergeant in our University's ROTC program a hard time. About anything.

So was that the ocean? The people living under the bridges near the UN were probably under FDR Drive. Much would be changed by the time of this episode, not the least of which would be a seawall. The seawall would have drainage to keep heavy rains from flooding the island. I think where Bobbie came out would be the East River, but notice how far Brooklyn/Queens are. They may not have had the same level of protection from sea level rise as Manhattan. The river would be tidal, and certainly as close to Oceanic as Bobbie gets to see for now. I've spent a lot of time in and around the cities on the east coast, and find this show's treatment of the receding coastline fascinating. I had a screenshot (posted to Xitter, and now lost) of the east coast from space and disappearing Florida and disappearing DelMarVa peninsula were very well done.

Great reaction! It was a lot easier to sync up with the fadeouts this time, so whatever you-or your editor-are doing; keep it up!

I really love the scene with Bobbie seeing the ocean for the first time. Between the music and her facial acting I really felt the joy, wonder, and awe someone would have seeing something like that after having lived their whole life indoors. As far as why the only angles they showed, I always interpreted that as we are seeing closeups of her face so we can get what she is feeling, and only that closed off shot from behind because that's what all she was focusing on. Seeing that much water for the first time ever, and it going all the way to the horizon...the beauty of what was in front of her was essentially all she could see at that moment.

16:03: Well, developing horrific weapons of mass destruction was a-okay, when they'd be for EARTH. Now, Mao might be developing them for MARS, and that's just not cricket. I think another reason for not showing us Bobbie's POV of the ocean is that this is too big for her for us to appreciate. We've seen how disoriented she is by the outdoors that we take for granted, but to see the ocean, water stretching beyond the horizon, for someone who's lived in domes where water is a scarce and precious resource, we just couldn't comprehend it. So they leave us with a rather mundane shot of the ocean, that we've seen countless times in film and TV if not real life, and then show us her face to communicate that this isn't an experience we can share with her. Our frames of reference are too different. We can understand it's a profound moment for her in the abstract, but we can't truly feel what she's feeling in this moment, can't see this through her eyes. This is a moment for Bobbie alone. Anyway, that's the impression I got.
