So this season has been an exhausting, frustrating, fascinating, and complicated roller coaster 😅 I have a lot of mixed feelings, and I'm admittedly grateful to be wrapping this up. Cautiously curious, but mostly apprehensive for season 3 😬

And finally back to our regularly scheduled programming! lol

It is less "the bracelet is lucky" and more "the universe is screaming at her to stop".

I feel your frustration Jacqui. I agree with you that this season there are too many heavy-handed dialogs and scenes don't necessarily connect. Some dialogs just too explicit, foreshadowing, awkwardly repeating; very much opposite of S1. One part I really dislike is how un-natural are the queer dialogs. They seem just very preachy and forced which I think just give "homophobes" even more reason to hate the show and increase inflaming anti-woke rhetoric. This may not be Neil Druckmann's doing. In his interviews, he accepted some creative directions from writers so to avoid boredom as one of the reasons to motivate the Creatives. I sense some frustration from his undertone and that he wasn't necessarily happy with the compromises. You are right about Season 3 is to tell the story from Abby's POV, starting from "Day One" where Ellie and Dina arrived in Seattle. It is how the storytelling in the game is structured. To a majority of gamers (with more progressive mind), Abby's story is more engaging than Ellie's. I recommend you to finish the show. Just like TLOU Part I game/Season 1 which is a masterpiece, TLOU Part II game is also crowned as a masterpiece. Despite show's flaws in season 2, the main story structure is very much intact. Some day when the show is done, it might be very interesting to get your reaction to the game's story (YT movie) and comment on the show's game adaptation endeavor. Some reactors have done that. Badd Medicine comes to mind for S1. Afterall, you graduated(?) from the most elite and Hollywood-tied film school in the world! We like to hear your thoughts!

They made a lot of changes from the game. Most I'm good with and understand the need for some changes due to the different medium, but the scene where Ellie talked about torturing Nora was very different in the game. Here Ellie talks about how easy it was to torture her, but in the game, she can barely say "I made her talk" and you see the horrified look on her face. In the game, Ellie is having a VERY HARD time coping with the things she's done. The game was driving home that Ellie's trying to be like Joel and she isn't like Joel and she can't deal with it like he could. Dina also didn't react coldly and say they needed to go home. Dina was Ellie's stalwart ride or die the entire time in Seattle. Ellie's run-in with the Seraphites (Scars) was much longer in the game. She had to avoid and get past them to get to the aquarium. Here it does feel like an unnecessary drop in that feels out of place in the story. Yes, at the end with Abby and Seattle Day One is the same Day One as Dina and Ellie's arrival in Seattle. The cliffhanger with Abby, Ellie, Tommy and Jessie in the theater was roughly the midpoint of the 2nd game. For the gamer, the cliffhanger hits and you're immediately thrown back to Abby's point of view earlier in the game, so there's no delay in continuing the story. Season 1 was a complete story. Season 2 felt like it was just the setup for Season 3. I guess there's not much of a way around that if you're splitting the game into 2 (or 3?) seasons. With only 7 episodes, I felt like they could have gone 8 or 9 episodes and fleshed some stuff out more. I definitely got the feeling multiple times that it makes perfect sense if you know the game, but if you're coming into it blind - it would be much harder to follow.

Speaking generally, without any spoilers for the remainder of the game's story, I can say this follows the game's structure (with many minor changes, but the core concept is the same). When this happened in the game, I stopped playing for two or three days. I was also annoyed. Today, TLOU P2 is one of my favorite games. It's quite the rollercoaster. Now, the clear difference is that I had the next part of the game available to play immediately once I was ready to do so. Whether this narrative structure translates to a medium where the story is released in parts separated by years remains to be seen. For me, it was one cohesive story without breaks. If everything goes according to Craig Mazin's plan, you'll experience it over three seasons with multi-year gaps between them.

I played the games, so the cliff hanger is of course a non issue... but man, people (out there in general) act like cliff hangers are something new. At least with this, the cut scenes from the game are out there for all to view if they don't want to wait. Both seasons of Severance end with decent size cliff hangers and we had to wait three years for season two (writers strike and all) and It will probably be two years between seasons two and three as well. And not that I don't have minor quibbles with this here and there, but over all I liked the changes they made, and feel they fit better for the show, especially the patrol pairings, and the way Ellie and Dinas relationship developed in the show (actually wasn't a fan of them getting stoned and getting down pretty much just before Joel was killed in the game). Would I have liked more? Sure... but if this had been done as a movie, which was on the table at one point, then we just got a 6+ hour cut for the first 40% or so of game 2.

Can’t wait for more expanse!

I'll just say that your feelings at this point in the story are very valid. The issue is that since non-gamers have to wait for S3, you guys don't have the full context for a lot of the things you're taking issue with. We were able to just keep playing to see that full context, but since they had to pick a point to split the story, this was really the only way. It's unfortunate because you guys are going to have a long time to sit with these disgruntled feelings and I fear that's a detriment to the overall story. Since I know where it's going, I'm forking excited for S3, but I can definitely understand that this season left a lot of people uncomfortable with how it ended. You nailed the point of the reset, so you'll see how things start tying together as soon as the perspective shifts. Trust me, the structure of the story was controversial, even for the game.
