Uh oh? Is this the episode that broke me on the first go around? Yes... yes it is.

Darj

If you're not done crying yet, here's a rough translation of the lyrics of the song that played during Powder and Ecco's dance: Stromae & Pomme - Ma Meilleure Ennemie [Intro] Je t'aime, je t'attends, je t'aime, je t'attends / I love you, I'm waiting for you, I love you, I'm waiting for you, Je t'aime, je t'attends, je t'aime, je t'attends / I love you, I'm waiting for you, I love you, I'm waiting for you, Je t'aime, je t'attends, je t'aime, je t'attends / I love you, I'm waiting for you, I love you, I'm waiting for you, Je t'aime, je t'attends, je t'aime, je t'attends / I love you, I'm waiting for you, I love you, I'm waiting for you, [Couplet 1 : Stromae] T'es la meilleure chose qui m'est arrivée / You're the best thing that happened to me Mais aussi la pire chose qui m'est arrivéе / But also the worst thing that happened to me Ce jour où je t'ai rencontréе, j'aurais peut-être préféré / That day where I met you, I would have maybe preferred Que ce jour ne soit jamais arrivé (Arrivé) / That this day never happened. La pire des bénédictions / The worse benediction La plus belle des malédictions / The most beautiful curse De toi, j'devrais m'éloigner / Of you, I must get away Mais comme dit le dicton : / But like the adage says "Plutôt qu'être seul, mieux vaut être mal accompagné" / "Rather than be alone, it's better to be in bad company" [Pré-refrain : Stromae, Stromae & Pomme, Pomme] Tu sais c'qu'on dit / You know what they say Sois près d'tes amis les plus chers / Be close of your dearest friend Mais aussi / But also Encore plus près d'tes adversaires / Be closer to your enemies [Refrain : Stromae, Pomme] Mais ma meilleure ennemie, c'est toi / But my best enemy, is you Fuis-moi, le pire, c'est toi et moi / Flee from me, the worst, is you and me. Mais si tu cherches encore ma voix / But if you still look for my voice Oublie-moi, le pire, c'est toi et moi / Forget me, the worst, is you and me [Couplet 2 : Pomme] Pourquoi ton prénom me blesse / Why does your name hurt me Quand il se cache juste là dans l'espace ? / When it's hiding just here in the space C'est quelle émotion, la haine / What emotion is hate? Ou la douceur, quand j'entends ton prénom ? / Or the sweetness, when I hear your name. [Pré-refrain : Pomme] Je t'avais dit : "Ne regarde pas en arrière" / I told you, "Don't look behind you" Le passé qui te suit te fait la guerre / The past that follow you is waging war on you. [Refrain : Stromae & Pomme] Mais ma meilleure ennemie, c'est toi / But my best enemy, is you Fuis-moi, le pire, c'est toi et moi / Flee from me, the worst, is you and me. Mais si tu cherches encore ma voix / But if you still look for my voice Oublie-moi, le pire, c'est toi et moi / Forget me, the worst, is you and me [Outro] Je t'aime, je t'attends, je t'aime, je t'attends / I love you, I'm waiting for you, I love you, I'm waiting for you, Je t'aime, je t'attends, je t'aime, je t'attends / I love you, I'm waiting for you, I love you, I'm waiting for you, Je t'aime, je t'attends, je t'aime, je t'attends / I love you, I'm waiting for you, I love you, I'm waiting for you, Je t'aime, je t'attends, je t'aime, je t'attends / I love you, I'm waiting for you, I love you, I'm waiting for you, Je t'aime, je t'attends, je t'aime, je t'attends / I love you, I'm waiting for you, I love you, I'm waiting for you, Je t'aime, je t'attends, je t'aime, je t'attends / I love you, I'm waiting for you, I love you, I'm waiting for you, Je t'aime, je t'attends, je t'aime, je t'attends / I love you, I'm waiting for you, I love you, I'm waiting for you, Je t'aime, je t'attends, je t'aime, je t'attends / I love you, I'm waiting for you, I love you, I'm waiting for you

This is my favorite episode of the series. I mean, every episode is my favorite episode, but this one stands out a tiny bit above the others. For once in this show I cried happy tears...😍 "Ma Meilleure Ennemie [c'est toi]" (translates to "[You're] My Best Enemy") is one of my two most loved songs from the soundtrack. It tells the story of Jinx and Ekko from Ekkos perspective. It became a huge hit especially (but not only) in french speaking countries and was streamed incredible 475 million times on Spotify (a year after its release) alone...😊 Short background to this episode. Amanda Overton (writer) came on board when the pilot was already written and always thought what a miracle it was for Vi to not get killed in that explosion. So her starting point for writing this episode was the thought: What would happen to all these characters if Vi would have died in that explosion? In the end it became the unique insight Jayce and Ekko needed. Ekko saw what could have been and what he is fighting for - Jayce saw what his and Viktors hextech research would lead to and why it must be stopped at all cost...🤔😊

They released a music video of the song that played during Ekko and Powder's dance, "Ma Meilleure Ennemie." You must watch it - but AFTER completing Season 2. Do NOT watch it before finishing the season.

I love you, I hate you, I love you, I hate you I love you, I hate you, I love you, I hate you I love you, I hate you, I love you, I hate you I love you, I hate you, I love you, I hate you [Verse 1: Stromae] You're the best thing to ever happen to me But also the worst thing to ever happen to me On that day when I met you, maybe I would rather That it never happened to me (To me) The worst of all blessings The best of all cursеs I should stray away from you But as the saying goes "Bettеr than alone, is to be in bad company" [Pre-Chorus: Stromae, Stromae & Pomme, Pomme] You know what they say Stay close to your dearest friends But also Even closer to your adversaries [Chorus: Stromae & Pomme] But my best enemy is you Flee from me, the worst is you and I But if you keep searching for my voice Forget me, the worst is you and I [Verse 2: Pomme] Why does hearing your name hurt me When it hides right there in the vicinity? What kind of emotion, is it hatred Or pure sweetness when I hear your name? [Pre-Chorus: Pomme] I had told you, not to keep looking behind Your past will follow you and wage war on you [Chorus: Stromae & Pomme] But my best enemy is you Flee from me, the worst is you and I But my best enemy is you Flee from me, the worst is you and I [Outro] I love you, I hate you, I love you, I hate you I love you, I hate you, I love you, I hate you I love you, I hate you, I love you, I hate you I love you, I hate you, I love you, I hate you I love you, I hate you, I love you, I hate you I love you, I hate you, I love you, I hate you I love you, I hate you, I love you, I hate you I love you, I hate you, I love you, I hate you

Who had the harder trial: Jayce crawling out of hell, or Ekko walking out of heaven?

Movie Night

You're all cruel. I love you, I hate you.

John

It's worth the wait.

Darj

Wake up, honey, the accurate translation just dropped! :P

The amount of intertextuality in Arcane is WILD, and definitely bears a rewatch (or 2). Example: the dance sequence between Jynx and Ekko is “shot” at 4 frames per second, referencing his ability to shift back 4 seconds in time and how badly he wants to hold on to those moments 😭

Tiefster

The detail that hooked me rewatching this time is the apprehension we feel when we think Jynx has the crystals, and then again at the end when we see the crystals she's kept. In the beginning of the show, we are excited to imagine the world that we can create by reaching for magic and leaving our limitations behind. After seeing the world with and without Hextech, we fear that the world we've quickly fallen in love with will be lost forever if Hextech is introduced. The more beautiful world was created by struggling with, and ultimately accepting our limitations - not escaping them. For me, that ties into a very humanist theme: the temptation to reach for something outside ourselves—magic, gods, or even the fantasy of creating a god through technology—when the harder, more meaningful work is solving our problems through human effort, understanding, and sacrifice. We have to master ourselves before we can try to master the world. This show was made before the conversation surrounding AI exploded into what we have today. It definitely rhymes with this theme in the show! So many people are telling us they can build a machine that will solve every problem that exists or will exist, while others warn about dystopian or apocalyptic consequences. See also, the Protomolecule in The Expanse. Heimerdinger was right all along.

Where's episode 8 and 9?
