While the credits for every episode end with the Mutant Enemy logo and the grr argh creature, there are six alternates. This is the first one. Instead of “grr argh,” it says “Oh, I need a hug.” They even went and made subtitles for it. 😂

Since we're wrapping up season 2. I thought it would be fun to review the classic Hollywood movie monsters which have been paid homage in the series so far. First we have Dracula 1931, Bela Lugosi. While there are vampires galore throughout the series, I think The Master in season 1 is analogous of Dracula, or pretty close at least, 2nd, The Invisible Man 1933, Claude Rains. For this one the show give us Marcie the invisible girl in eps 1:11. 3rd, Frankenstein 1931, Boris Karloff. Eps 2:2, Some Assembly Required has several elements in common with this movie in my opinion. We have Daryl as the monster. We almost got the bride. Fire also plays a key role in the end. The 4th features Boris again as The Mummy 1932. Easy to play two classics when one is wrapped in bandages. In BTVS we get The Inca Mummy Girl, eps 2:4. We even have a curse of the mummy, though in this case the mummy is the recipient of the curse. 5th, is The Wolf Man 1941, Lon Chaney Jr. And for this one we round out the cast with Oz becoming a werewolf in eps 2:15. (there wolf, there castle) The last one so far is The Creature from the Black Lagoon 1954, one of the first movies to be shown in 3D. In this movie The Gill Man was portrayed by two stunt men. Ricou Browning wore the suit for the underwater scenes, and Ben Chapmen wore it on land. But our girl can fight just one, so in Go Fish (2:20) she must deal with a whole swim team of Gill Men. (John Gillmen, Attorney at Law)

The scene with Joyce and Spike is one of my favorite. “Have we met?” “You hit me with an axe once.” 😂

Movie Night

This is the kind of Spike content that I need more of 😂

Aw, that's cool! I don't ever really watch to the end, because I cut for discussion. I'll have to keep an eye out.

I admit, I was never really one for the horror/monster genre, so most of it will go over my head. But thank you so much for sharing this! I still love and appreciate the references. It will be fun to think about if I ever go back and watch those movies.

Yep Jenny had been killed so we had no reason to doubt that Angel would be in hell for the rest of his days. About the Principle I think just mild annoyance is fine for him he does not rise to the level of a Geoffrey, meaning he is not trying to kill her. Just my opinion.

Long time lurker here. I've never been the biggest fan of seasons 1 and 2, so I am very much in the camp of looking forward to your season 3 reactions (and even more so for 4 and 5). Still, there are some excellent episodes in season 2, and I've very much enjoyed watching your reactions to them!

Movie Night

Makes sense! Also alas, being irritating can sometimes be a worse cardinal sin in for a character 😂 I hate him in a different way, but with a similar passion to Joffrey lol

Movie Night

Thank you! I have a feeling I'll be in the same camp, because as much as I've appreciated seasons 1 and 2, I don't think they've hit for me in the same way some other shows have. I'm really excited to see what awaits!

Spike’s twist here towards being an unlikely ally is just such a fun turn. Joss had tried to have the character killed twice this season but he perseveres Also love that when Angel gets his soul back he immediately becomes less pale. I very much remember sitting in front of the tv during this ending scene. It’s always stuck with me

You mentioned you know there's an Angel spinoff, but you're not sure if it's a prequel or what. It's probably worth telling you, no spoilers, but Angel and Buffy are meant to be watched together. Angel and Buffy aired back to back when they were first broadcast. Every Tuesday night you'd watch Buffy and then Angel. If you also decide to watch Angel, it's worth looking up a viewing guide. You can't necessarily go by episode number, and they are meant to be watched in order. This doesn't start until Buffy Season 4, so this is just a heads-up for later.

peak Spike content imho

I appreciate in S2E21-22 that we are reminded how scary Drusilla really is! In the fiction that inspires Buffy, vampires are more than just intelligent undead creatures that will suck your blood. We got a bit of this with the Master, but that was always played off as campy humor. Here we see that Drusilla has powers that are SPOOKY. Her mental instability is sometimes played for laughs or sometimes cute and charming, but it does hit different when Drusilla is cruel and violent compared to the other vampires. It's a bit undercut when Spike chokes her out... part of emphasizing how scary vampires are includes showing that their hearts don't beat, and they don't need to breathe.

One of the greatest moments in all 7 seasons which says A LOT! I howl every time!

Still crying for Buffy and Giles after all these decades.

We need SO much more appreciation for Kristine Sutherland. We don't see too much of her but that was a HUGE few scene switching from pure comedy to high drama. All hail Buffy's Mum! Spike paired with anyone is absolute gold. And yes, this hit VERY hard when I started Buffy spoiler free in the good old days. I never really liked the Buffy Angel combo but the acting broke me. Sarah is a powerhouse.
