The romances are really dragging this show down. It’s a deeply weird decision to have both Rebecca and Keeley’s primary storylines be focused on the men in their lives.

I do think Zelda is gonna turn out to be the villain by the end of it, simply because of her friends, Tony Blair, Nigel Farage and the one you don’t need any British politics knowledge for, Prince Andrew, all famously regarded as ‘wrong uns’ these days! Also her firing the gun at midnight was a strangely disturbing image, and not by accident in my opinion. Loving this season so far, I think the time away served the whole creative team well.

Respectfully I’d disagree that the romances are dragging the show down, the whole Keeley & Roy dynamic is literally one of the core’s of the whole show. I can get not being nearly as invested in Rebecca and Matthijs relationship as there’s been so little time devoted to it. My criticism of that storyline would be it’s slightly rushed, but to say that it’s dragging the whole show down to me seems hyperbolic, but that’s just my opinion.

Charlie Tocher

Was about to say that in your previous comment! 🤣

I saw someone on Reddit compare her to Rupert Mannion before Rebecca saw him for the genuinely evil person he was. It seems pretty apt to me, especially in this episode. Charming in a provocative way, relentless, a steamroller, keeps very questionable company and jokes about it.

Eh, I'm not a fan. Roy and Keeley were great together when they were together, but I'm very over will-they won't-theys. Then they both made a lot of independent progress and beautiful character progression in Season 3, and now Keeley in particular, to me, seems to be going way backwards.

What about Ted? What do you think of the Wilson metaphor and his reaction to women? I’m not sure I got everything from that scene and would love to see you talk about this 💕

This is my first time watching a full episode with you. I normally just watch on YouTube but after watching your review of Ep.5, I had to come here and watch you react to the return of Jamie Tart! This is my favorite show on TV...right above The Pitt.

I actually think people were okay with Keeley and Roy not being together at the end of season 3 - the lazy trope-y writing this season has just turned a lot of people off them. I also agree with the comment below that Keeley has regressed as a character overall this season. It also feels strange that despite the season being about women's sport, they don't seem to want to show much of it. I wonder if they're concerned that if they focus too much on it, a certain demographic might stop watching.

Loved the direct callback to S1E5: Roy telling the doctor VERBATIM what Ted told Michelle when they were remembering when they met (“So random. There was no way of knowing it was going to be the start of something…”) and if you remember in that scene as Ted is saying that, we cut to Keeley and Roy in the parking lot!

Bobfather

In the scene where she is stuffing ham into her bag, did anyone else think of Dan Akroyd in Trading Places stuffing food in his Santa coat?

Probably one of the things I'll address after I finish editing the episode and have thought about it more. This is definitely one that I enjoyed the high of the good moments, but when you go back, you notice really how many details, and how much more depth there was 😅

Movie Night

Ooh good catch! I hadn't thought about that, but it was one of my favorite moments from season one.

Movie Night

All excellent points, and the details that can slip past you when you're focused on the comedy of the episode. We're definitely getting a clearer image of Zelda after this, and I actually appreciate that it's in the details, because that's often what happens with people in real life. They don't often just hit you over the head with their "villainy." It's in the company they keep, and the moments that make you double take.

To be fair there wasn’t much men’s football in the first three seasons. I’m guessing we’re coming at this from different angles as for me the show was never about women’s game , that’s just the situation for this situation comedy. Yes it informs many of the plot points for human stories but to that point I’d also have to strongly disagree that it hasn’t highlighted the struggle of women’s football, it s just the stories have been the ones off the pitch as were the stories about the men’s team. Also to your point of them not wanting to upset a certain demographic I think they happily waved goodbye to them in season 3 when those idiots suddenly realised the show was “woke”! Finally I have to ask what’s lazy about the writing? Finally there is nothing wrong with tropes, they work, doesn’t make it lazy

Aileen Daw

Yes! I had fun watching, but then there was so many things going on, some things also very uncomfortable!

Danjon

The issue is that women's football has trouble being taken seriously, even the show acknowledges this. Yet they hardly show it. The men's team doesn't have the same issue so not showing much wasn't a problem. My eyes rolled into the back of my head when the did the silly mis-overheard trope with Keeley and Roy in this episode. It's a very played out trope done in the laziest way possible.
