The Last of Us Episode 5 Full Length Reaction

Sigh...more tears.

I was reading today about how the super creepy child clicker that climbed inside the car with Ellie and that killed Kathleen was played by a 9 year old gymnast named Skye Cowton, who did an incredible job and will likely haunt my nightmares! If you look closely, she's wearing a Blue's Clues shirt, which somehow makes her all the creepier. Also, did you catch the face and scream that Ellie made when Henry shot himself? Easy to miss if you flinched at that moment, but it was just incredibly good...beyond acting. I'm loving Bella Ramsey more and more as Ellie with each episode

I think they handled the Henry and Sam part wonderfully. We got a bit more motivation on why the Hunters weee after him. Plus, they made the actual Sam and Henry deaths scene even more dramatic.

Yes sad show has done it again. The guy that created this story is masterful at what he does.

The last of us is not the type of show you can binge watch in one sitting. You would be emotionnaly wrecked for weeks if you ever accomplish that.

I can't wait to see what he does with the rest of his career, because he's the Spielberg of TV right now!

Movie Night

As happy as I was to be able to watch one and two back to back, you're so right. I actually feel a little bad for the reactors that are waiting to binge it 😅 They're in for a serious emotional breakdown!

That makes so much sense! And no, alas I missed Ellie's face...I was crying lol. I'm editing right now though, so I'll catch it this time. Completely agree--excellent casting, and an incredible performance! There really are no weak links anywhere on this show.

Movie Night

Just from watching the show, I completely agree! Some people have complained about making Sam deaf (my brother told me he wasn't in the game), but I think it added so much depth and drama. And seriously, THOU is so good at using silence for tension, that making Sam and Henry's conversation's silent was such an incredible choice, even just stylistically. I stand by it 100%.

In the game, there is a sort of subtle, unacknowledged, but obvious attraction between Ellie and Sam (sam being closer to Ellie's age in the game). That was all good and well, and I will forever love everything about the way the game did that sequence of the story. But I completely approve the changes they made for the show -- having Sam younger, having him hearing-impaired. It deepens that central theme of the story of protector/protectee, and the unexpected forming of family-like bonds. It provided Ellie a brief chance to play for Sam a role that no one was ever able to play for her until Joel came along, and I think that's beautiful. If Sam were her age and less vulnerable, we wouldn't have gotten to explore that as deeply.

I heard something similar. That Ellie takes to taking care of Sam kind of like a big sister because of the same sense of not being able to take care of Riley when the shit hit the fan. It’s kind of like Joel attacking the Fedra guy because he didn’t act with the military guy killed Sarah. Ellie I think saw the same chance for redemption with Sam. It also explains why she believes so wholeheartedly thinking her blood would keep Sam okay like her. She just can’t imagine another friend dying on her watch.

"Death Tunnel" would make an excellent bad-movie title.

Wholeheartedly agree! I have trouble waiting for stuff when I'm so excited about it but I think it's for the best in this case T_T I know some friends and acquaintances who are planning on binge-watching it or just like "well I'm kinda busy so I'll just wait" which is understandable but ooff..... Well we'll see how that plays out lol

I don't know if you've been watching the behind the scenes for the show (called 'Inside the episode') but I highly recommend watching them, they're short but sweet and in terms of ep 5 maybe it will make you feel a little better to see 'Sam' alive and well, etc. Sure made me feel a little better after my first watch and he's such a sweetie, they're all just amazing honestly.

I normally love watching those for HBO shows, but I decided I wanted to do this full season blind, just watching the episodes with my own thoughts. I will definitely watch them all though (and the podcast), since I will absolutely be watching this whole show again when it's over (and maybe doing an end-of-season analysis or something like that). I just wanted to try this season for the episodes by themselves. Thank you for the recommendation! 😊

This reaction's greatness starts at the point in the story when Jacqui remarks she likes Sam and requests nothing happen to him... [That broke my heart a little.] Then Jacqui says "Don't make me fall in love with characters on this show!" And sighs. "I'm not crying already." Then with the interaction between Henry and Sam - "Oh he's going to give him a super hero mask." "I'm not crying already!" "OH! This Show Is So GOOD!" Jacqui goes on - "I am not physically shaking right now." Then THE MOMENT came in the most innocent place... Ellie and Sam from the day care class room THE "Endure and Survive" FORESHADOWING MOMENT. Jacqui feels the doom coming - "I'm scared of what's about to happen." {sobbing]"My Eyes Are BURNING!"[sobbing] "I SAID DON'T MAKE ME LOVE THEM!" And THAT is what a GREAT REACTION 'feels' like. (I cried too.)

Movie Night

Aw! Thank you so much! I'm just glad I'm not crying alone 😅

Rarely does a movie, show, book, or in this case, a video game come along that can actually temporarily change your physiology like this one can.....

Neil, the creator of the game, in an interview said he was so mad that he didn't think of it to make Sam deaf. I played the game, and every change they made in the show I 100% agree with. It was amazing.
