uhhh yay! Amélie is such a beautiful movie!!!!

Does SING STREET count? It did release here, but it's an Irish movie & if you haven't seen it, you'll ADORE it!

Aimée & Jaguar would also be a nice one to do. It's pretty sad and tragic (surprise it's German, that's what we do), but it's a really good movie. Definitely on my list of sapphic classics

Hasn't SAG-AFTRA also exempted many independent studios that already agreed to the terms requested by them? I believe A24 is an example of this, and they have many interesting movies, such as The Adderall Diaries, Moonlight, Lady Bird, The Disaster Artist, Uncut Gems, The Green Knight, Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Whale, Room, Tusk, Ex Machina, etc.

Yes, Amélie is a delight! More votes for that one.

Let's be clear... The ENTIRE Kurasawa filmography would be amazing. Literally can't go wrong. Plus you can point out how much he gets copied by western filmmakers... Along those lines, I'd also recommend: * The Twilight Samurai (not well known, so maybe not great for a reaction vid, but a great story starring the amazing Kiroyuki Sanada). * 13 Assassins - a fantastic action movie and was actually released here in the U.S. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xpm007vne54)

Dave Williams

Then some other great foreign films to consider that all have some "U.S. Appeal": * El Mariachi * Oldboy * Pan's Labyrinth * Attack the Block * Train to Busan (amazing korean zombie movie) * City of God * Cinema Paradaiso I'm assuming that British Films are okay, at which point that unlocks (you'll want to check current ownership): All the Monty Pythons Trainspotting Lawrence of Arabia Brazil & Clockwork Orange

I couple of important notes. First of all, I would very strongly recommend staying away from Alfonso Cuaron's "Roma", as it was heavily financed and almost exclusively distributed by Netflix. It was shown a few times in cinemas because of festival requirements, but it is very much a Netflix production. I would also check carefully what was the status of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", because if I remember correctly, there was also Western financing heavily involved, to the point that Chinese viewers thought the film felt too Western at times. If you want a film with a similar feel and premise, I strongly recommend "Hero" (starring Jet Li), which was released only two years later and feels a lot more authentically Chinese. Speaking of Chinese cinema, you may try the early Hong Kong period of Jackie Chan or Chou Yun-Fat, there are some great examples from the 1990s and 2000s. "Blue is the Warmest Colour" may require extensive editing for YouTube, as back in the day there was a discussion whether there was a need for so many graphic sexual scenes even in France, so you may want to keep that for Patreon only as well. If that is not an issue, then you may have a look at "Irreversible". I need to warn you, though, it has a very uncomfortable and very long scene of sexual violence - I have seen people leave the cinema while watching it. Beside these, go for "Parasite" - all the praise this film got is fully deserved! I believe Irish cinema should be safe, if you want an English-language alternative. "Sing Street" is a very nice romantic throwback to the 1980s, though it will need heavy editing because of all the licensed music :) I also strongly recommend "The Guard" and especially "Calvary", both starring Brendan Gleeson - I hope these productions having a US distributor is not an issue. You could also go for Spanish cinema from the 1980s/1990s - there are some great examples, like "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown", "Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!", "Talk to Her", "Outrage", "Open Your Eyes" (which was later adapted in the US as "Vanilla Sky"), and many others. Other options include classic French cinema from the 1960s, like Jean-Luc Goddard or Francois Truffaut, where you have a huge selection to pick from. Anyway, I am truly excited about this, if you couldn't tell :)

Basically any Bong Joon-Ho film is amazing. In particular Mother and Memories of Murder are incredible! I love you’re doing Studio Ghibli 2 that aren’t on your list that are great are The Castle of Cagliostro and Grave of the Fireflies which pairs well with Oppenheimer being in the public consciousness. Also Taika Waititi’s Boy is really great and Jane Campion’s Angel at my Table too both funded by NZ Film Commission. Bright Star is also really good. I’d say The Piano as well but it looks like that was Disney distributed.

Bradley Huffer

Just to throw out a film I liked but haven’t seen listed here: The Triplets of Belleville. An animated film with very little dialog but tells a sweet, funny story.

I would like to see you react to "Hunt For The Wilderpeople" and "Life Is Beautiful" (La Vita é Bella; IT 1997 - the Oscar winning movie from and with Roberto Benigni) 😍 And Anime-wise I would like to see you react to "Graveyard Of The Fireflies" or "Your Name". 😊

Isn't SPIRITED AWAY co-produced by Disney? I'm not sure if that might cause a conflict. The reason I thought of this was that I'd like to make an unpopular suggestion that you react to the English dubbed version. It's done really well. Also, unlike live-action instances of dubbing, I think for Japanese animation the voice acting is done afterwards, so the English voices are just as "legitimate" as the Japanese ones. And since it's not actually actors being filmed, it's not like there is an "original performance" that the tones and inflections would need to be preserved from. Lastly, you might want to go with the English version is that the movie is kind of surreal as it is, and a foreign language might be another barrier in terms of accessibility. Anyway, I'm looking forward to SPIRITED AWAY. And definitely AMELIE and LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL as well.

I have another suggestion for an international film: LAGAAN: ONCE UPON A TIME IN INDIA. It's just about the most mainstream movie you can imagine. (Though it is long at 3 hours and 44 minutes, so you'd probably have to break it into two sessions.)

Bekka NoyB

♥ Crouching Tiger! One of my all time faves!

Haley Morris

discord link is expired by the way.

It's been a while since the last update. I hope everything is going okay.

Kaitlyn L

Not an international suggestion, but since seeing your update video on YouTube finally pushed me to join here to support you (love your analysis so much!), you seem to be in the clear to do non-international stuff. I saw the movie Nimona on Netflix and you were one of the first reactors I thought of who would have great thoughts about it.
