“You pay your mortgage for the year and you just show up and do nothing.” - Chris, on major celebrities working in voice acting

On this week’s episode, we’re chatting about the barely-feature-length sequel, Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties! How in the world did Jon Arbuckle not sense two live animals in his luggage? Is Billy Connolly good in this movie? Shouldn’t it have been against the law to play this much Black Eyed Peas on a film soundtrack? How eerie is it for Jon to secretly follow/stalk Liz to England? And how do you have all these adorable barnyard animals and they’re not the U.S. Acres friends? Missed opportunity! PLUS: Chris weighs in on the all-new The Garfield Movie starring everyone’s favorite Mario, Chris Pratt!

Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties stars Breckin Meyer, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Billy Connolly, Ian Abercrombie, Roger Rees, Lucy Davies, and the voices of Bill Murray, Bob Hoskins, Sharon Osbourne, Joe Pasquale, Jane Leeves, Roscoe Lee Browne, Richard E. Grant, Vinnie Jones, Rhys Ifans, Jim Piddock, and Tim Curry as Prince the Cat; directed by Tim Hill.We hope you are enjoying Ad-Free WHM! Normally, I'm pleasantly surprised when the episode is longer than the movie. But in this case, I would be shocked if it wasn't.

Paul

Oooh. Charlton Heston is coming back to WHM. Can’t wait! Apes rule!

Luke Gordnier

Steve thank you for shouting out whammy in last week’s episode, I check it out when I was in LA last weekend and bought some tapes. I didn’t know the store existed until you shouted it out.

Watch_N_Rewatch

Jupin is 100% about the Super Mario Bros animated movie, the score and nostalgia music was the only good thing about the entire movie ! Also I loved the Garfield comic and I have never seen these CGI movies, thank Jebus

MarkNM

So was it a gentlemens' agreement to avoid a "Tale of Two Titties" joke, or was it just four individual miracles? Fun episode either way.

Nathan Lemire

I'd like to say Garfield fought the good fight...

Lar

Haven’t seen any of these Garfield movies but I really appreciate that y’all are talking about how ridiculous cartoon voice casts have been since…idk, Aladdin maybe? I think a few folks have pointed out that that might have been one of the first major times that a celeb did a voice and it was just literally them instead of doing a character. And here we are now, 30 years later.

Adam Lewis

DAMNED DIRTY PODCASTERS.

Rod

I try my best to watch along with everything but I had to draw the line here

Dawn Elicia

I actually like this movie better than the first one. But I only like it more because I love Tim Curry. So it’s the Tim Curry factor. Loved Tim Curry since Clue so I try to see his movies. I am a Huge Garfield fan. I grew up on Garfield and friends and all his specials. I refuse to watch this new one because they changed Garfield origin story. Plus not a Chris Pratt fan hate that he’s ruining Garfield for me.

We Hate Movies

I was trying to think of where it really hit and I also landed on Robin Williams as the Genie sort of starting that trend. Of course known celebrities did voices for things earlier, but I think this was the big one that was like, "Oh wait, that'll draw even larger audiences!" - Andrew

Jason

Which WHM host makes the best lasagna? I would think Andrew, then Steve.

Busiris

Of course nobody could've predicted we'd lose Dabney Coleman between recording this episode and releasing it today but, with Eric's mention and Billy Connolly's performance, it's actually kind of a fun way to pay tribute to him in a weird way.

Tim O'

Roger Ebert's Doppelpussy is up there with Paul Schrader's Aqua-Focus in terms of compelling movie titles I've heard on this podcast but will never be able to watch 😞

James Gibson

Somehow, I watched this whole thing thinking Billy Connelly was John Cleese. I think my glass of water was too tall.

MarkNM

YOU CUT OUT HIS BRAIN, YOU PODCASTING BABOON!

Rod

“No I can’t!” should be Steve’s new catch phrase

Paul

You guys should watch “Garfield: Nine Lives.” There some deep and weird ass shit in that animated film.

Tim Batson

Let's collectively hold Eric in a comforting embrace and tell him "it's ok to hate a movie"

Jamie

Eric is the Neville Chamberlain of WHM, with his obsession with appeasement.

Eren Keskin

I hope in the next movie they neuter this fucker.

Todd B

Re: major celebs in voice acting. To be fair, it is possible to get good voice performances out of big name stars. The catch is, it's usually in projects that aren't actively trying to sell on their cast list (i.e. The Spider-Verse movies, Studio Ghibli dubs.) When they're leading with the cast list, that's usually a pretty big warning sign.

Adam Lewis

Does Man still podcast to his brother? Does he let his neighbors' children go without Spotify while he podcasts?

We Hate Movies

No, precisely. It's happened before, that big celebs have done good voice work, no question. But when it's stunt casting, that's what we're talking about. Robin Williams gave one of the best vocal performances of all time, and he was one of the biggest stars in the world, so it *can* happen, it just doesn't happen often! - Andrew

Nathan Lemire

Everyone responsible for this film should be dragged into the street and shot.
