On this month's edition of our sexy, sunny, 1990's TV recap show, we're talking about two episodes of our beloved primetime stories that BOTH have long, stupid titles!

First up on Beverly Hills, 90210, we're dealing with the fallout from Daddy Wars in "The Child is the Father to the Man." Originally airing February 17, 1993, this episode centers around Dylan coping with the loss of Jack McKay in that car bombing. Most of his friends rally around him, however David is more concerned with making the recording session for his terrible music, and Brandon gets in a little bit deeper with his gambling addiction!

Then, across town in Melrose Place, we're talking about the stupidly-titled, "The Cook, The Creep, His Lover and Her Sister." Originally airing on October 24, 1994, this episode features Peter absolutely destroying Michael at work, Billy getting the hots for Alison's college roommate (and vice versa), Jake buying Shooters and hiring Sidney to be a server, and, oh yeah, that absolute creep, Australian Chris, turns up the creepitude in a big, bad way!

MELR0210 is a WHM podcast where the guys blissfully stroll through the Beverly Hills, 90210 and Melrose Place timelines. The TV episodes covered will run in broadcast order unless otherwise specified.

Thanks so much for continuing to support the WHM Patreon! We know you have a lot of options when it comes to podcast entertainment and we're grateful you chose to spend some time with us. You're way cooler than Dylan McKay!Cover art by Felipe Sobreiro.

So is Hat Dylan kind of like a prototype of Laid-Back Dr. Beck?

Alex

I'm officially requesting a thirtysomething side show.

Shout out to those of us that love Melro and haven't watched a second of either show

Daddy Wars: Requiem

Because I can’t help myself: “The child is the father of the man” is a line from the poem “My Heart Leaps Up” written by William Wordsworth in 1802. It’s about how our youth informs our experience and the struggle to maintain that sense of childlike wonder as we age, or whatever Chris is not wrong that the reading at the funeral is the same as the song Turn Turn Turn by The Byrds, written by Pete Seeger. However Seeger was himself quoting the Bible. Specifically Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8. If you read one book of the Bible I strongly recommend Ecclesiastes. It’s a lamentation about the transient, ultimately empty and unfulfilling nature of earthly things and life itself. Very Gen-X. Anyway, you can check out these works and more at your local library.

Andrew's Cindy Walsh is dangerously close to his Jean-Luc Picard, and I'm fine with it.

Justin Genova

My God the sound of the glugging in that scene. 🤣

Justin Genova

Fingers crossed we see Brandon Walsh receive Robert DeNiro kicks over his gambling debt next month.

Eric’s line about the Blaze headline killed me lol.

Christopher Oxentine

A mix between that and pink hat girl from The Deadly Mile High Club.

Luke Perry as Gambit would've been a much better pick than what Wizard actually suggested: JEAN-CLAUDE VAN DAMME!

Duke's Big Boy > Duke's Bad Boy. Don't know why, but it is.

Kinda surprised at the production put into Melro this episode. A drive to Santa Barbara with some actual footage of the stretch of the 101 between Ventura and Santa Barbara, some aerial footage of Santa Barbara and a location that actually looks like a Santa Barbara restaurant and park. Big difference from when Dylan took his trip to Lompoc and Avila (or, according to him “ah-veeeee-la”) with a generic looking school set.

How are Michael and Kimberly getting paid 5k a piece for a photo shoot but Jake can buy Shooters outright for 50k?

Alexander Trattner

Funeral Director/ Crematorium Manager here. It's not THAT much wood, but it IS that stupid cost. Come up north and I'll make you Boyz disappear for free!

I'm listening to this episode like "wait... do these heathens know this is from the Bible??"
