On this month's Animation Damnation, we're checking out the all-new Disney+ Spidey cartoon, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man!

This month we're chatting about the first episode, "Amazing Fantasy," which first dropped on January 29th of this year. This show's got a really solid animation style, and some really great writing here. How cool is this Doctor Strange appearance? Should this show have been more episodic? Why does the script act like once Peter misses the subway there won't be another train in six-to-ten minutes? And how rad is this Colman Domingo appearance at the end? PLUS: Why couldn't we have gotten Mid-Life Crisis Uncle Ben this time?

Thanks so much for being so awesome and supporting Animation Damnation on Patreon! Please be sure to spread the word! Your support is what keeps this operation going! We know you have a number of choices for pods and we appreciate you spending some time with us!Original cover art by Felipe Sobreiro.

Glad to hear Andrew liked this. I wasn’t impressed with the first episode but my ten year old wanted to watch more and got hooked after episode 2. The music on this show is great.

The character design (and overall style) of this series is by Leonardo Romero, a fellow Brazilian comic book artist whose work is incredible, his work is worth checking out, he's been doing stuff for both Marvel and DC

Tim Batson

Also, I enjoy ALL the NY talk. More please!

We Hate Movies

I can't remember if we touched on the music in this AD, but yeah it's really fantastic! - Andrew

I still occasionally buy CDs because my car is old AF. Hondas last forever!!! ✊

Aidan

Wild Dog gleep glossary?

Paul

Steve mentioned “Andor” at the end there. Let me just say, “Andor: Season 2” is peak Star Wars. It’s the best.

Kevin Lynch

CDs are the best format for bootlegs

Barista Bran

Would love to see you guys tackle the new Mike Judge animated series Common Side Effects. It's a great time through and through

Brent Cowan

Divorced Uncle Ben getting into slightly scumbaggy adventures would be a comic book line I’d read the hell out of!

Tristan

Gleep glop glossary wild dog?

johnny stocker

My favorite part about all of it is how annoyed Eric gets at other people's annoyance over it. It always turns into a funny 90 seconds 😅

Jason

I think the guys' lukewarm response to this series is just due to typical first episode stuff, as the episode does a lot of table setting. I hope Steve sticks with it, I think he'd like the series despite the lack of a shagable Granny Aunt May.

Craig

No Ray Liotta “Wild Dooog!” voice?

Mr. Nobody

I'm afraid to inform you guys that this conversation about CD, MP3 and FLAC is one of your grampiest conversations yet

Just FYI the two recent Spider-Man video games feature a not insignificant amount of Tombstone. Also, those games are just plain amazing

Jan

I’m so tired of spider-man - the story the character the Queens accent bs, the tiring arc, i’m done (and i angrily spit on uncle ben’s tombstone)

Mark D Myers

I have read all five fabulous issues of wild dog.

Jan

Oh my god this cartoon is amazingly bad

We Hate Movies

We've since gone on to become obsessed. It's disgusting there isn't more! - Andrew

I was trying to work it in and just couldn't get onto the highway from the onramp. - Andrew

Miguel Sanchez

You guys convinced me to check this out👍

The character Wild Dog appears on the Arrow TV show. One of the later seasons. I forget which one.

Matt Eldritch

He appears briefly in the second arc of the Geoff Johns Booster Gold comic as a member of an underground Justice League in an alternate timeline based around Infinite Crisis, if you're itching for more Wild Dog.

Matt Eldritch

The show does get more interesting after the first few episodes, though I found it a bit lacking by the end. Better than the past two main spiderman cartoons but they need to step up their game in the second season.

Kureigu

Just finished watching the 10 episodes, the set ups for season 2 look good and the twist in episode 10 was interesting too. All in all it's an okay series. Spectacular Spiderman is still the best toon though lol

Billie Jackson

And in Cave Carson has a Cybernetic Eye, though I don't remember if he is also in its sequel miniseries Cave Carson has an Interstellar Eye. CCHACE is a good read.
