It's the June edition of our sexy, Los Angeles-in-the-1990s TV recap show, MELR0210!

First up on Beverly Hills, 90210, we're talking about the ridiculous episode, "Duke's Bad Boy." Originally airing back on March 3, 1993, this episode features everyone's favorite hat-wearing bookie, Duke, shaking down everyone's most hated gambling addict, Brandon Walsh! We've also got David's music career flaming out, Dylan trying to heal after the Daddy Wars bust, and Kelly Taylor getting in too deep with the diet pills!

Then across town on Melrose Place, we're talking about "Love Reeks." Premiering back on November 1, 1994, this episode has Billy and Susan hilariously sneaking around behind Alison's back at the Hollywood Bowl, Peter taking so much joy in firing Michael, Jake wanting to help Sydney by straightening out Australian Chris, and, of course, Michael and Kimberly getting married in Vegas after Michael torpedoes Jane and Chris's wedding!

MELR0210 is a WHM podcast where the guys blissfully stroll through the Beverly Hills, 90210 and Melrose Place timelines. The TV episodes covered will run in broadcast order unless otherwise specified.

Thanks so much for continuing to support the WHM Patreon! We know you have a lot of options when it comes to podcast entertainment and we're grateful you chose to spend some time with us. You're way cooler than Dylan McKay!Cover art by Felipe Sobreiro.

Am I crazy or some microphones (Chris's in particular) tend to saturate anytime the voice is raised for a tiny little bit? I don't know if it is pocketcasts which boost voices (it is a bit better when it is off but not great) or simply the limitation of remote recordings (or also that Brandon and Billy make everyone crazy :D). Anyway, love the episode and totally on board for the melrose schenanigans.

Time traveling bookies is a premise for a show that would’ve aired before Birdman at Law on Adult Swim, and I’m 100% here for it.

James

I can’t believe in 2025 I would be telling myself “Don’t watch that episode of Seinfeld because it would spoil Melrose Place.”

James C Harris

Billy Vera & The Beaters had a #1 with "At This Moment" in 1987, which gained popularity due it appearing on Family Ties in 1985.

Unsurprisingly, the thing you talked about where guys slap each other as hard as they can (dubbed POWERSLAP) was/is owned and operated by noted Human Skidmark Dana White.

Kuato (and the freedom brigade)

Ugh... Donna's fucking hat also how dare they diss David's flow? The voice hip hop has always been begging for is a white kid from Beverly Hills

Fun contract law factoid - Contracts signed by someone under the age of 18 are not enforceable! That's why anyone underage would need a parent or guardian to sign with them. So it's even more unbelievable and stupid that David does not have any adults involved with this record contract! (Bearing in mind that my contract law knowledge is a few years old and for all I know, California has their own different contract laws.)

I enjoy taking a shit in a public restroom. I like marking my territory.

Ray

Brandon is the type of guy to go to one AA meeting and then tell everyone how shitty they must feel having never been.

Ray

Allison gives Amanda advice and in the same sentence says "except for that whole Jake thing" as a dig lol and presumably sets Amanda off 😂 this show is fantastic.

Tim Batson

I've never felt so torn about a topic as I have with the shitting in public restrooms debate.

NFlux Forever

Wow, it's almost as 90210 was badly written or something.

Busiris

Now re-reading my comment I sound like every other asinine imdb trivia, lmao. Whoops.

jribs

Hey this is how he wins the case in Liar, Liar!

Busiris

LMAO oh yeah, that's right.

Have we ever figured out if the boys are aware that they're using the word "chuffed" to mean exactly the opposite of what it actually means (originally, in the UK?)

Matzar

Top ten 90210 ep here.
