On this edition of Once In A Lifetime, we're talking about a truly perfect specimen of a Lifetime Movie—Killer Contractor!

How many of these movies start with the protagonist vaguely living in San Francisco? Did this Killer Contractor raid the last JC Penney in existence? How hilarious is the turn by this contractor's mother? How silly are the loose screws that the Killer Contractor uses as his killer calling card? How refreshing is it that this movie doesn't start at the end and then flash back, like 99% of Lifetime Movies? How horny is this townie friend here? And, sorry, but how funny is that old man falling down the stairs? PLUS: An extended jag on the Amityville franchise for... some reason?

Killer Contractor stars Alyshia Ochse, Zac Titus, Mark Lawson, Kendra Andrews, and Rebecca Tilney as Eleanor; directed by John Murlowski.

To be honest, probably wouldn't even be the worst contractor I ever had.

Cannot recommend enough watching this movie before listening to the episode. A real “seeing is believing” situation.

I was cackling expecting the Short King to be driving that van that ran over the sex-friend. I was expecting them to cut to him laughing maniacally behind the wheel after getting in the van in milliseconds. It being some guy that was actually trying not to hit her was even more surprising. They should have cut to a comedic shot of the handsome guy and the mother turning to each other with slow smiles spreading across their faces

RJ Cunningham

The killer contractor himself though had the ultimate short guy walk, and classic short guy shirt and pants fit. That being said he’s very fucking handsome….and not awful in the movie…? I thought he nailed the “evilly looking at a house with gas inside” look

RJ Cunningham

Lifetime must be shocked by the influx of views of this movie on YouTube. “Audience finally coming around.” - Lifetime

Kevin Lynch

So I’m not the only one that’s seen Amityville Emmanuelle and Amityville Vibrator

Ray

Might be the first lifetime movie where the "attractive" guy is actually kind of attractive.

Shawn

Top tier episode. I too have watched way too many Amityville movies and hope Chris has seen Amityville in Space. It’s awful, but for a super fan, he might be able to get some laughs.

Ray

They pronounce McLeod "mick-lee-ud". I've seen Highlander. You can't fool me.

This is the perfect example of a movie and episode that proves OIAL is my favorite patreon side-show. A total riot and it's definitely right up there with Deadly Mile High Club and the Stalked by my Doctor series. One fun note about the Amityville movie this director made: Several outside scenes were filmed at the same building from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. So I always call it the Amityville movie that takes place above Paddy's Pub. XD

Nicholas Knecht

Amityville Pickers. The American Pickers raid the Amityville house and then hilarity ensues. If the Pickers eat shit I'll give it all the stars.

Alex

I figured it out but I gasped when I realised that he's not just a killer contractor, he's a contract killer. I did think that Ella is going to grow up to be Amy Dunne with this children's book named after her. anyway, this is a banger of an episode and a lifetime movie

chris pike

I love all of the Once in a Lifetime episodes!

Tim O'

When this episode was announced last month, I thought, a killer contractor... like... a hitman? That's an odd subject for a Lifetime movie. It turns out, no no no... it's far more deliciously stupid than that.

It's Always Haunted in Philadelphia

Is Amityville Vibrator a porn parody or a horror movie?

StylinGreymon

my YouTube recommends have been ruined in the best way by this movie.

Chess on Ice

Thank you so much for recommending watching this before listening to the episode. I'm only two-thirds of the way through the movie and there's so much material here. The acting, the pointless contractor mom character, the CGI fire, Handsome McContractor, the decapitated stuffed bunny...this is a classic.

Jonnie Sea

She pulled a Mick Foley AND a Matt Foley! Genius

Infinite Terror

Andrew's reaction to hearing about JCPenny took me out.

Just watched a Lifetime film called Mad Mom. I've watched a lot of Lifetime films in my time and this film is one of the best. Up there with the Stalked By My Doctor films. It's free on YouTube. Would be a great OIAL episode. It's kinda the Lifetime version of Misery. That's all you need to know going into it. It's a crazy film. Looking forward to seeing you guys in Oxford. I've got tickets for the Hellraiser show and the Nexus episode. My partner and I will be there. I will say that episode of TNG was hard to get through. Genuinely took us four tries to watch it all. It's THAT bad.

So I thought this movie was about a Killer Contractor - as in a specialist killer. Like an assassin. And it kind of was.

As a woman in a Lifetime movie, you just gotta realize that no man in your life can be trusted and will only menace, murder, or doubt you. Nothing says "I'm in mourning" like hosting a garden party in the very house where your father kicked it just hours before. And no way those children's books are bestsellers or really anything but self-published on construction paper and probably left in neighbors' mailboxes or tucked under windshield wipers.

I had a very similar situation happen at an uncles funeral. It was winter and there were very few mourners. I was fine until we got to the gravesite which required all of us pallbearer’s to hold the casket away from our bodies. I audibly shouted “it’s getting away from me!” and luckily a man from the funeral home rushed over and grabbed the front end just in time to stop my uncle from landing in his final resting place a few minutes sooner than originally planned and at high velocity.

One amazing thing in this near the start is right before the daughter says "I miss my daddy" there's a shot of a framed photo of a guy on the shelf and JUST as you're thinking that the husband must be dead, Kerry drops "That's how divorce works". So she just has a framed headshot of her cheating ex husband on the bookshelf.
