It's the September edition of our cartoon recap show and we're finally chatting about Tiny Toon Adventures!

The episode in question, "Hollywood Plucky," aired back on October 23, 1990, and features Plucky and Hampton delving deep into the seedy underbelly of Hollyweird as Plucky desperately tries to pass his script to a big-deal producer, all while Babs and Buster... just wait at a bus stop? This star-stuffed episode features "appearances" by Jack Nicholson, Indiana Jones (not Harrison Ford), Michael Keaton done up as Batman, Meryl Streep, Woody Allen, Mike Tyson, Arnold, Clint, and more!

Tiny Toon Adventures: How I Spent My Summer Vacation movie was on constant rotation in my house. Still remember that Deliverance joke with the possum.

Steve referring to The Contest as "the masturbation episode" of Seinfeld had be doing a double take at my phone

Mildly surprised this wasn't "One Beer," but maybe you guys address that in the episode. That one is wild; the "All-Syrup Squishie" bit played straight.

Don’t try this comment at home, kids

The coolest thing Tiny Toons ever did was the music videos with They Might Be Giants

Matt Watterson

I remember watching that as a little kid with my teenage babysitter and her absolutely crying with laughter at the ET flying bike reference.

I don’t know how far this went but there was also Looney Tunes sports themed merchandise in the 90s. I had a Notre Dame Looney Tunes sweatshirt.

Matt

Oh my GOD. The Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle callback sent me back in time like that scene in Ratatouille. My best friend had that and we used to play it and NHL 92 CONSTANTLY

Andrew is right, the newish Mickey Mouse cartoons are quite good but I think that may he colored by watching it with my son who loves them. Also, Mickey Mouse is voiced by the guy that plays the tres commas guy from Silicon Valley, so I am always waiting for him to say that, "This guy fucks" to Donald

Movie Mangler Theater

Adding more confusion, the universities enemies are Perfecto prep.

Busiris

It's my birthday today and I'm going to spend it by listening to my favorite funny guys talk about cartoons. 🍿

Eric's reason for not liking Animaniacs is 1000% legit!

The one with decomposed zombie Goofy was fun

I wanna say that after Space Jam did some jokes about them being dressed “urban”, we got official shirts with them like that, but I was also in grade school, so I don’t remember 100%.

Beavis and butthead please

Surprised they the boys didn’t clock the “bad, and such small portions” joke is from opening monologue of Annie Hall.

Darryl Bowen

The only Tiny Toon I remember having parents was Hampton only because of the Summer Vacation road trip with his parents (and uncle?) I tried watching the Tiny Toons reboot and watched the first two eps and lost interest

The joke of the series that really stuck with me (perhaps from Summer Vacation) is someone trying to marry both his daughters to Buster Bunny and Buster says "that's bigamy!" and the guy says "no, that's big of me." Growing up in a Mormon household I got the bigamy joke as a tween and found it very funny.

Thank you!!!!! 🎂

When Andrew asked if they were doing anything new with Looney Tunes, Steve mentioned New Looney Tunes. If you’re looking for new shorts with the OG characters, there's a series called Looney Tunes Cartoons, which is basically a continuation of the Golden Age shorts. It's actually very well done, and funny. The entire series is on HBO Max. Maybe a future episode of AD, perhaps?

Mr. Nobody

Hell yeah Neuromancer

My favourite “BadAss” Looney Tunes image is Bugs dressed like Travolta and Jackson from Pulp Fiction, holding a sawed-off shotgun. Above his head, the text reads: “Forgive me Lord, but I have to go back to tha old me.”

TJ Guiney

I built up a nice WHM backlog over the last month and “…she lives in a mushroom…” absolutely killed me, thank you Eric

There's a moment in the 1941 short Elmer's Pet Rabbit in which Bugs Bunny keeps voraciously eating vegetables he's been given while complaining about how terrible it is and wondering how he can be expected to have any of it. Which is kinda similar, but admittedly different in phrasing.
