On this month's edition of our Star Wars Gleep Glossary, we're talking about the mysterious(?) figure whose name struck fear in the hearts of those throughout the galaxy: Darth Sidious!

What better character to do for Remake-ril than this dastardly Sith lord? Back in the early aughts, was there anyone who fell for this Sidious nonsense? Were those message boards really lighting up over the true identity of this guy? And with there being so little written about Darth Sidious, how were we able to go 30 minutes on this? Well, you'll have to listen and find out, but beware: lots of side talk related to anything and everything other than Darth Sidious, like Christian Slater chatter!

Gleep Glossary: A Star Wars Story is a show where the guys try to honor the history and legacy of Star Wars characters, most of whom we've been told don't matter anymore!

Thank you for being so incredible and continuing to support this weird, wild adventure we're on! You make this all possible! We know you have lots of options when choosing which pods you listen to and we very much appreciate you carving out some time for us!

"Palpy, this is Savage Oppress. He looks exactly like Darth Maul and uses and double-bladed lightsaber. He is one of the most undervalued Zabraks on Dathomir. His defect is that he's yellow. Nobody in the big leagues cares about him, because he looks funny. This guy could be not just the best apprentice in our Sith Order, but one of the most effective bad guys in Star Wars. This guy should be in his own Solo-style spin-off film. We can get him for a cartoon."

Whoa whoa whoa whoa! Are you telling me that Darth Sidious and the Emperor are the same person??? These fan theories have gone too far!

All I can see when y'all do the palpatine/sidious voice is the robot chicken star wars special and bits, it's dead on! Ok when are we going to get a animation damnation of the Family Guy and robot chicken specials!???

I called the twist pretty early in the Phantom Menace when Senator Palpatine is talking to Amidala, and as she exits, a single frame of Darth Sidious flashes in the background.

Eric Szyszka was rejected by the Star Wars Minute Podcast, but he was not rejected by the Predator Minute Podcast. Folks, seek out that episode on most platforms: Predator Minute Podcast with Jon and Jeff (Minute 77: “Get to the Choppa!”).

Chris Cabin asking directors taking on AI projects, “What’s wrong with you guys?” What’s wrong with them? They like money—and lots of it.

Alex Jones said Ian McDiarmid is the greatest comedic actor of all-time.

Have not yet listened but I’m predicting that this addresses the New Essential Guide to Characters’ inclusion of separate entries for Palpatine and Sidious. I guess since it was published before the release of Revenge of the Sith they thought some poor soul out there might be under the illusion that they were two different characters…

Now that I think of it, Andy Mangels’ painfully outdated 🤓 *old* Essential Guide to Characters (I grew up with the 2004 updated version) included Episode I characters, didn’t it? So even more reason to pull the wool over readers’ eyes….

Maybe I'm giving Wallace and/or Random House too much credit, but I don't think giving the height in meters has anything to do with marketabilty. It's possible they didn't want to break the immersion of this fantastical world by using a measuring unit that is so deeply rooted in real world history. So they opted for one that is more universal that could have been developed anytime anywhere, because you know...it actually makes sense. That was your metric moment for the day. (I will continue doing those whenever it comes up on the show)

When Palpy was "revealed" as Sidious in Revenge of the Sith, some dumbass sitting in front of me shouted out loud " Oh he was THAT guy!" as if all the puzzle pieces were in place. So yes, there are some really stupid mofos out there that need everything spelled out for them.

I listen to the Star Wars Old Canon Book Club, and I often think Eric would fit in well with them.
