“Has he gone completely feral?” - Chris on Frank Castle

On this special edition of Too Old For This Shit, we’ve got all four guys on-hand to chat about the not-quite feature-length Frank Castle adventure, The Punisher: One Last Kill!

As fun as this is to watch, you can’t help but ask: why are we doing this? Are they going to make a new show? If not, why not just add another 35 minutes to this and make a more fleshed out movie?! How wild is this single (fake) neighborhood in New York City where the Purge is apparently happening every day? How much better-looking is full-skull-costume Frank? Has this movie seen The Raid or John Wick? How great is Judith Light in this? And is Andre Royo’s bakery out of business for good, you think?

The Punisher: One Last Kill stars Jon Bernthal, Judith Light, Jason R. Moore, Kelli Barrett, Andre Royo, John Douglas Thompson, and Debra Ann Woll as Karen Page; directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green.

We hope you enjoy Too Old For This Shit! Thanks so much for being the kick-ass supporters that you all are! Can't believe The Accountant's brother got a spin off.

The action in this was excellent, but im not sure Bernthal should be allowed to write again without doing some homework. Frank Castle is a calculated serial killer, not screaming PTSD man.

Until the mouse allows real filmmakers more control over these properties again I fully support 53 minute MCU movies.

Jason

Really digging the Tom Holland Spiderman voice as grown up Towelie from South Park

I fully support 53 minute movies period. Films from the black and white days could do it and manage to be tightly paced and coherent. I hate the modern thinking that a movie has to be 150 minutes to get your money's worth out of the ticket. If that's the case bring back double features and make two good 70 minute movies and release them as a package.

You guys are real Kings of Kontent this week. Considering the kind of week it's been, I think we all appreciate it. Thx much.

Oh yeah, Ma Gnucci's bodyguard was supposed to be Barracuda. Comic Barracuda would have shot Frank on the spot to claim the bounty for himself.

Related: that surprise ep of The Bear dropped on the same day as the Tony Awards nominations...maybe bc they were expecting the two leads to be nominated for Dog Day Afternoon? Which they were not. 😬 I like them both as actors, but I had mixed feelings about the play.

The best thing about this TV special is the behind the scenes footage. The scene where the guy tosses the dog - there's footage of some production crew member taking the dog out of the guy's hands and Bernthal is just off-camera tossing the guy a stuffed plushie dog to throw, lmao. I love it.

as just a sit back turn your brain off and watch a long extended action scene it was pretty enjoyable but didn't really do much to add to the character and I thought they were saying this was supposed to be setting up and tying into the upcoming Spider-Man movie, which I still don't understand how you take this character that is extremely violent, with the Disney+ appearances of him in this and in Daredevil being way more gory and violent than anything they did in the Netflix shows, but now this character is going to be appearing in a PG-13 Spider-Man movie? Then at the end since they know everyone watching a Marvel thing is trained to watch through the credits for a mid and/or post credits scene, so this time the mid credits sequence is a message about mental health hotline

The first 30 some Mack Bolan: The Executioner are the ones Punisher is based on. His "one man War against the mafia" is decent, cheap potboiler "men's adventure" fiction. I bought them all at a used bookstore for 35 cents each decades ago. After that arc it continues for however many hundred books, but they aren't a cheap, sleazier version of the Punisher any longer, so are not my bag. MA Gnucci turns up in Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's Marvel 616 mainline title from the early oughts. Frank has cop fans in that run who are mimicking him, and he explains to them why they shouldn't, then iirc kills them. Because they had been murdering people themselves at that point and bragged to him about it.

The opening, the Little Sicily stuff, made me call this The Frank Knight Returns. They just needed more punks with mohawks to look like Frank Miller's Gotham City (only with fewer swastikas).
