“They’re making sure you got every dumb detail of that first movie” - Andrew on the opening flashback

On this week’s show, we’re chatting about the second entry in the massively successful sci-fi horror franchise, Resident Evil: Apocalypse!

How janky is the CGI on those Licker monsters in the church? How hard is it to say ‘Raccoon City’ with a straight face? Shouldn’t the Raccoon City News be hosted by cute, little raccoons? How many people remembered the story from the first game? And could Nemesis have pulled it off working for MI6? PLUS: The season 17 start of the VHS Trailer Game!

Resident Evil: Apocalypse stars Milla Jovovich, Sienna Guillory, Oded Fehr, Thomas Kretschmann, Sophie Vavasseur, Raz Adoti, Mike Epps, Sandrine Holt, Matthew G. Taylor, Zack Ward, Iain Glen, and Jared Harris as Dr. Ashford; directed by Alexander Witt.

Papa Taylor

Keep up the great work fellas.

I think I watched this on Saturday and like 95% of it is gone from my mind already. I just remember a lot of dumb blurry monstervision.

Luke Gordnier

In the podcast wars, I’m on the we hate movies/talking simpsons side.

Nuña Bisness

Damn the one time I was actually killing it in a VHS trailer game

Rob Brown

This might be THE worst movie that I’ve ever seen in a theater, and I saw everything for free for the nearly two decades that I worked at one, so I saw sooooooo much shit. I know Mortal Kombat Annihilation is the worst movie I’ve PAID to see in a theater, and both of these movies are sequels to Paul WS Anderson movies that are not directed by Paul WS Anderson. Speaking of sequels, I think you mistakenly said during the VHS trailer game that Terminator 2 was in 1992, but it was actually 1991.

Billie Jackson

P sure the worst movie I ever paid to see in a theater was Luigi Cozzi's Hercules starring Lou Ferrigno, which regrettably was chosen that afternoon over Strange Brew, the forgotten Hamlet adaptation. Runner up for worst is Message from Space, featuring Vic Morrow and magic space walnuts.

Billie Jackson

It's the only one in the series that I've never seen, because that title evokes images of the desert wasteland from... that other one. They all blend together after awhile. Been looking forward to this so much!

David Thompson

Screaming on the train at Cabin and Eric during the Sci-fi sequel game

Cristopher Titus is a unicorn. A 50+ male comedian who isn't either "apolitical" (not a thing and usually a week away from being disproven) or openly reactionary and bigoted. He's not somone whose comedy I follow, but I always appreciate the few dissenting voices out there.

Scott Plackemeier

FYI I found this for free no ads on You Tube . Somehow I still overpaid

WarOfTheBees

JUSTICE FOR JUPIN: Terminator 2 was released on July 3rd, 1991, not 1992.

Smaug

A glorious VHS trailer game! No Jupin Jame Master this season?

Rose Esposito

Boys...I don't even know what to say about that bonus round. Bunk from The Wire shaking head in disgust dot gif

Rose Esposito

dude I already confuse Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter on a regular basis; please don't make it worse 🥴

MarkNM

I don't care if we get slaughtered in the first wave, I'm not living in the future world where all podcasts are Joe Rogan.

Rob Brown

Since the release of the new movie, which I enjoyed a lot, I’ve seen even MORE bitching about how some of the loudest “fans” still can’t get past the fact that none of the game characters are there, or that it’s not adapting any of the specific stories, and so on, and so on, and it even further reinforces my belief that you should NEVER try to make anything for the “fans” (not that the new one is an example of that), because they’ll never be happy, and they are just a microscopic percentage of the overall moviegoing public anyway.

We Hate Movies

Just make good shit. That's what Cregger did. Man, some "fans" amiright? - Andrew

"You're the Jame Master, Mr. Sadjak. You've always been."

nadia

I was at a traffic light when they got to the bonus round and I know I looked insane yelling, “ALIENS!!! ALIEEEENNNNS!!!!!”

MarkNM

Black Adam. Brrr. What a hefty turd.

Jake

I just rewatched 1-5. With about 20 minutes left of 5 I realized I had no idea what was happening and just shut it off. Avoid everything after 3 like the T-Virus.

JK

The "fake Roger Ebert" shit was so fucking funny. I generally enjoy that podcast but that shit is fucking abominable

Queen Taru

This film series is one of my most favorite POS series to rewatch. They might be dumpster fires but they are my dumpster fires.

Dennis Stack

Same here. I stopped listening after the Karate Kid 2 episode. I think that the difference between how the WHM guys handle Mr. Miyagi's dialogue versus how Bill Simmons handled it is the perfect example of the difference between white male Gen xers and white male millennials when it comes to impersonating other races

Dennis Stack

Yeah that fucked me up, too. I kept thinking, "sounds like T2 but I know for a fact that it came out in '91 given that I just attended the 35th anniversary rep screening last month."

Dennis Stack

Little disappointed that Andrew doesn't get a turn as The Jamemaster but Steve saying, "gamemaster's cuh-lue!" tickles me to no end 😂

WarOfTheBees

Dinesh D'Souza and I are working on a documentary on this, "2,000 Terminators"

JK

Oh ya the "voice impressions" are a whole other landmine unto itself

Daimon

You had me with the Nemesis as James Bond jokes, lost with with saying the first few Harry Potter are similarly bad (though I suppose Chris is the film contrarian of the group for a reason) but hey to each their own I suppose

Snooder87

no way this is the worst. I mean, I saw Green Lantern in theater, in 3d. Now THAT was a trash movie. This was just an average zombie movie.

I.C. Weiner

Regarding the Resident Evil games, I tried periodically over like 20 years to get into them but could never really get into them. I then loved Resident Evil 2 remake and have now played the remake of 3, 4 and loved 8 and 9. Just last week I played the original Resident Evil for the first time and it was such bullshit. The remakes keep a tiny bit of the key hunt but streamline it and make it just much more user friendly. In short, I think they mostly got rid of what you guys didn't like and I whole heartedly recommend you guys play them. Also, I tries 7 3 separate times but it was legitimately too scary for me each time and I checked my save data and without knowing it I noped out at the exact same time all 3 times. It is heavily influenced by TCM so you may like it

RJ Cunningham

“A sci-fi sequel? Robots and explosions? 80’s cartoon adaptation? transforms? Transform….ers? What am I a time traveler?!”

Blake Jordan

I feel like I'm being screwed with. They should be getting all these softballs in the VHS trailer game.

ShaunTrek

Right? My immediate reaction was "Earl Boen was in another sci-fi sequel?"

Catboyslim

I love these movies, and never played any of the video games. I’d watch Milla Jovovich stand in front of a test pattern for hours. I , unlike Erik Pinecone am proud of my Eastern European roots. Milla really was thee female action star in Hollywood for years. Her mom was a Soviet film star beauty and her dad a doctor who was down by law. They escaped the iron curtain and came to the US when she was a young kid. she can act, seriously, so what I’m really trying to say is I’ve been drinking, and I want you guys to do the whole series. Great podcast episode!

JK

Rest in power

Massey and Graham

Irrelevantly relevant: wifey dragged me to Practical Magic 2 this evening. Worth a bookmark for worst of 2026. Grampy death (spoilers), british Cameron Poe, and the douche chill quote: “leave my sister alone!”

Matt Watterson

Definitely going to go by Matt Nemesis moving forward.

Rob Brown

I saw Green Lantern in theaters, and yeah, it’s bad, but RE Apocalypse is just a generic, forgettable piece of shit, which makes it worse to me. I didn’t care much for the first movie, but I had my hopes up enough that the next one might be something, and instead, it really shit the bed. I don’t care enough one way or the other about GL for it to even rate.

Rob Brown

And I know it was on VHS before the end of the year, because I had planned on asking for it for Christmas. Remember, that was a time when it seemed like only the biggest movies were priced for sale right out of the gate, but this shockingly wasn’t. The year before, Total Recall had been priced for sale, and it was the same company (LIVE Entertainment, which would become Artisan) putting it out, so I had no reason to believe that it wouldn’t be!

Jim Callahan

I have to call out a minor mistake made by our beloved Jamemaster, the tagline for Aliens was “This time it’s war” and not “more.” Thirty points for Eric please and thank you just because.

Matt

A shot for shot remake of True Lies but Nemesis in the Arnold role. "Here's my invitation" [holds up handful of viscera]

Matt Watterson

I got banned from a movie page for saying that fans mad about Cregger’s movie are just upset it didn’t end with Leon Kennedy kissing them on them mouth.

Jonathan Lyons

"my father used to have to wear a sportscoat when he was nemesising and now-" -LB, the autobiography of the only soprano singer in The Sopranos (aka if I did it/this is a joke, don't yell at me) It's a long title

Russell Snyder

Sorry, I’m late posting here. I broke my phone in half listening to Chris whiff on the Aliens answer. You’re killing me Cabin!

Busiris

The Nemesis jokes about him being gross garbage is extra funny because his design in the RE3 remake makes him look like he's dressed in torn garbage bags, lmao. In total sincerity, I've been a fan of the games for nearly 30 years and I'm fine with even the worst of the movies. But the new movie is so fantastic. It's cathartic to hear the guys poke fun at how silly the lore is in live-action. Meanwhile, the trolls on Twitter will literally come out of nowhere to bully you and threaten violence if you call them out on their toxic attitude. I've never had to lock my account until now. It's unbelievable that this new movie has bothered them that much just because it makes a bold fresh swing.

Matt Watterson

lol, the image of Nemesis barely fitting to his waist in a Harrier cockpit.

RJ Cunningham

Who’s Earl Boen in that movie? Also, who’s Earl Boen?

Billie Jackson

In which the plot hinges upon coprolites.

Knut Farstad

Trash nuggets indeed Nemesis! In fucking deed

Catboyslim

Hey! I wanted to add that Milla Jovovich stars with Adrien Broady in the movie Dummy, a 2003 indie sleeper comedy that’s worth a watch. Jovovich nails it Brody’s best friend both are late bloomers aka losers worried about their 10 yr high school reunion. Unemployable, living at home, Brody gets into ventriloquism while Jovovich channels John Belushi’s Bluto from animal house. Worth a watch just to see Jovovich butcher the German language in song, funny because in real life she’s a polyglot. I don’t want to give any spoilers, but think Erik would really groove on that.
