In light of the Remo Williams debacle, is there one frequently requested movie you're actually dying to do?

Christmas Vacation is one of my favorite movies, but I can't let go of the fact that a major plot line involves feeling sympathy for a character who couldn't get a swimming pool with his bonus. Are there any movies you love despite the obvious privilege of a main character? Scott in St. Louis, MO

Hey guys. Since we are getting close to that time, is there a childhood holiday movie, tv show, or special that you were forced to watch that you absolutely hated? In my household my mom would put on Yogi's first Christmas and I hated it. The sound of that rich brat screeching haunts me to this day. How about you guys? Mark from Little Rock.

Marc Nickel

Hey guys - I'm moving in with my awesome girlfriend in January. Finding love during a pandemic is amazing, but one foreseeable problem is that she has no attention span to watch movies - and while she likes to green out it's not the intense focus kind, it's the very talky kind (...she says "sh'mon" a lot...). It's not like I can have a movie night at a buddy's place in the time of COVID. What do I do?? - Marc from SF

forko

I wish my name wasn’t forko

Nicholas Fonseca

What first movie experience had you thinking about the film the longest after you left the theater?

I absolutely loved the new Suspiria and absolutely loathe the original. Are their any remakes you like better than the original or any classic movies that you just never understood how/ why they’re so beloved. Sorry if question is unoriginal but saw there was a planned sequel to the new Suspiria and the fan boys for the og were in full effect in the comment section. Matt from Frisco.

SECRETARIATguy

Greetings WHM Crew, I just recently discovered you and have immediately become a proud supporter of yours on Patreon, and am amazed that you guys have the same contempt for stupid shit in movies that I do but also the same respect for the true gems, rare as they are. I am humbly asking you to bare with me as I tell you this story, because I really want to know if you can relate, (BUT IF YOU find yourself asking "Jesus, dude! What's your question!?!", just scroll down to the end . . . I put MY QUESTION in all caps so you can find it) . . . here goes: When I grew up in the late 70s/early 80s, Rocky and Superman: The Movie were films that literally became part of me. Of course, I saw many other films and have become a real film aficionado, but those two were head and shoulders above all others (the reason for this is because we moved a lot, my parents both worked, and I'm part of the last generation of kids with parents who would rather just have their kid be home alone instead of hiring a babysitter). I saw Rocky in the theater when I was barely 3 (I can just vaguely remember it, but definitely remember the training montage and the audience cheering at the end), saw it again at a special screening when I was 6 or 7, and saw Superman in the theater at 6. Saw Star Wars and Empire in the theater, too. The Karate Kid, Ghostbusters, The Blues Brothers, E.T., Back to the Future, and Beverly Hills Cop. Loved them all, but none of them had the same impact on me as Rocky and Superman. When Rocky came out in theaters, and on video until 1996, the film was mixed in mono. In addition, in what I call the "original mix", the ring announcer Jergens (Thayer David, who I loved in The Eiger Sanction and the great S5 Columbo Now You See Him) announces that Creed has won the fight BEFORE Adrian gets anywhere near the ring (" . . . and still Heavyweight Champion of the World, Apollo Creed). If you watch this video https://youtu.be/0ekF-L7hnrU that Avildsen put on his YT (RIP), fast forward to the end (last 40 seconds or so), and you'll see the ending without the result of the fight being announced as Adrian and Rocky embrace in the ring. For me, this changes the entire context of the film. Getting the result out of the way before Adrian gets to the ring allows is important because Rocky did not care about winning or losing; he only cared about finishing the fight on his feet. Once the fight is over, all he cares about is to see Adrian, obviously because he loves her, but specifically because she is the only human being who he actually opened up to about his goal to go the distance prior to the fight. Now, the original mix was all that was originally available up to and including 1995. Then in 96, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the film, it was re-released in remastered stereo (for dorks like me, it's very easy to spot all non-original audio mixes of Rocky: in the original mix ONLY, immediately after the final bell rings, Creed says ONE TIME, "Ain't gonna be no rematch" and then Rocky, in a wailing, exhausted voice, says TWICE, "Don't want one!" and then the post-fight music starts. Every single other mix of the film has Creed saying his line twice, and Rocky saying it twice. To this day, the only way to get ahold of Rocky in it's original mix is to go on eBay and buy a copy of Rocky on a VHS tape from before 1996 (I then had mine copied onto a DVD). Now, since I grew up with this film and love it so much, whenever it's on now, it's always broadcast in it's stereo mix and, strangely, even though the DVD gives you the option of switching to mono, they still have the announcement of the result of the fight coming at the very end, as Rocky and Adrian come together in the ring. My long-time girlfriend loves the movie, too, and when I showed her the difference she now prefers the original version (we watch it once a year, maybe once every 18 months). Look, as an adult now, I'm fully aware that Rocky is a fantasy, a fairy tale. But what resonates for me is that to me the movie is about one thing only: self-respect and a guy trying to regain it after he lost it. . . the fight is simply a lucky opportunity for him to regain it. The problem for me is: to this day, when I see that film and it's not the original mix, it's like nails on a chalkboard. I know how stupid and existential it is, so I just go with the flow and don't make any fuss or anything, but I feel like I'm stuck in a time machine. The only way I can truly enjoy Rocky the way I did when I was younger is to hear it in that original mix. It's the same with Superman. This video https://youtu.be/PVOpCSqUjGE is the opening title sequence in the original Dolby 2.0 with the original credit "wooshes". With Superman, it's 5.1 remix is dogshit because they not only remixed the music, but they recorded completely new sound effects. The original sound mix of Superman is really special, almost like another character in the film, and I can instantly tell if it's anything other than the original mix. For me, it's much worse with Superman than with Rocky. I can watch Rocky with the updated mix and still enjoy it, but the remastered Superman for me is a no go for me, to this day. I suppose the closest thing for other, "normal" cinefiles to relate to would be the original versions of Star Wars and Return of the Jedi. I know that, for me, I know Rocky and Superman TOO WELL; I'm sure it's because I first saw them at just the right age as a kid, and those original versions were just "imprinted" on me. MY QUESTION to ALL 4 of you guys is: In your whole lives, are there any films that you know TOO WELL? If no, that's great because you were spared the irritation. But if yes, please share with me which films, and tell me how it started to dawn on you that you knew the film's too well. I'm sincerely sorry I rattled on and on and on and on and on and on and on like this, but after listening to several of your podcasts on films you hate and love (your hatred of Hard to Kill is absolutely spot-on for me, and I love how you guys love Superman; can you do a WLM on Rocky?), I felt compelled to share these thoughts and questions with you because I figured you would be able to relate. I'm proud to support you guys on Patreon. With warmest regards, SECRETARIAT Guy

Hi WHM love the show. I found you guys while listening to another podcast. It was the Dead Meat podcast and you guys were going over that god awful Slender Man movie. I loved your personalities and loved what you did. Here’s my question: Are there any movies that you guys are happy that you never have to or never going to cover for the show? - Kacie from Missouri : )

Tyler The Destroyer

Corey Reynolds

Hey WHM homies! I thoroughly enjoyed the Korn-mentary episode. Could we see a potential We Love Music documentaries anytime soon? I know Andrew is a huge Talking Heads fan like myself. Any chance we could see a Stop Making Sense episode in the future? Corey from Nashville.

Kephus

Hey gang! You all have a strong history of seeing movies in a variety of theatres. Being a big fan of this myself I've made strong use of my local SoCal drive in scene to still get a larger experience. What are your thoughts on drive-ins and any good stories to share regarding them? Thanks for all the laughs! - Pete in San Diego

Sam Slocum

For no reason, I just watched all the mission impossible movies in a row in a week. It’s a mixed bag, but great crossover of SBE and dadfernoon, with the stunts and dumb action gags. Whatcha guys think of em? It’s a miracle that horrible John Woo one made enough money to justify sequels, IMO. I mean, it ended in a slo-mo motorcycle duel, what?

Brian Alford

After watching the HBO documentary, I'd love to know if Steve has any more stories from Action Park?

rosie 🌟

what isnt awesome about a slo mo motorcycle duel!!

BallTech

Maybe your question wasnt long enough.

James Bates

Hi, I listened to you saying about airport underwater. Any chance you could do some Irvin Allen movies such as the Poseidon adventure or towering inferno? And then top it off with airplane!
