This month on We ❤️ Movies, we’re talking a blue streak about one of the best Hollywood blockbusters of (at least) the last decade, and one of the best films of last year, Top Gun: Maverick! How refreshing was it to see all of these real-deal sequences caught on film? Couldn’t we have had a few more scenes with Ed Harris? And how terrible is that bar’s bell-ringing policy? PLUS: With only three weeks to plan this mission, Maverick doesn’t for a second forget about the importance of down time and clocking out right at five!

Top Gun: Maverick stars Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, Jennifer Connolly, Miles Teller, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Bashir Salahuddin, Charles Parnell, Monica Barbaro, Lewis Pullman, Jay Ellis, Danny Ramirez, and Ed Harris as Rear Admiral Chester ‘Hammer’ Cain; directed by Joseph Kosinski.

So when does a regular patreon member get the love and thunder stream? It seems like you guys want to be cut off of my regular payments.

Ducky Irving

OneRepublic’s first album came out in like 2003 guys lol. Very old man moment in a great episode. 😂

We Hate Movies

Hey, sorry, William, we never said the Love and Thunder show was going to be made available on Patreon. - Andrew

Zander Shirali

William, to be fair it was always advertised as it's own thing. I've been a patreon for quite some time and have always felt satisfied with the amount of content the guys churn up for us. On top of that they add new series of shows all the time for Patreon Patrons. If you're not satisfied with the quantity of content why not email the guys directly instead of threatening to cut them off because you didn't get one live episode? C'mon now....

Jan

It’s not A for effort, it’s E for effort, my dear comrade

Dave Waters

I'm shocked that Vince McMahon never gave us a pilot character wrestler when they all had jobs.

Dave Waters

Late to the Patreon party, but I'm loving these WLM episodes and that there's so many for me to catch up on.

Paul

My best movie of 2022.

Daug

Heck yes!

Matt

Former projectionist - May be wrong (it's been 20 years) but I believe the formats Andrew was looking for were Flat/Scope? edit - I was, predictably, wrong as hell

TwoWeeksGuy

An aircraft carrier is a boat. That's why pilots from one are in the Navy, they live on a boat. The Air Force doesn't have boats.

Smaug

This movie rocks, by far the best theatre experience of 2022, eat shit Avatar 2. Eric is correct at the top, this movie has no right to be as good as it is

We Hate Movies

Those aren’t the terms I was looking for though. I was trying to say that was Steve was looking at was a keystoning issue.

Matt

There we go - my bad! Great episode!

Felipe Sobreiro

I've avoided this movie like the plague... I guess I'll watch it before I listen to this episode

Paul

I agree about “Maverick,” but I wouldn’t say eat shit “Avatar 2.” Cmon now. They’re great bookends to a stellar year of movies.

Smaug

@Paul, yeah you're right. I feel about Avatar 2 the way I feel about Avatar 1 though. Andrew nailed it on the head for me during the Avatar ep, it was a cool theatre experience, but I don't think I'll want to watch it at home...like ever. Conversely, my wife bought Maverick and I've watched it like 3 times at home already

Mike Kling

It was worth the wait

StevieWayne16

Tom Cruise can drop dead and can take David Miscavige with him.

Paul

Steve missing out on all the blockbuster movie releases is becoming legendary.

Chris Tobias

"His dick is a muppet in that movie." I howled all the way home. You guys have to do the labyrinth now.

Mike Kling

A little off topic but RIP Earl Boen

Matt Nelson

I don't know if y'all talk about it in the 'cast yet since I haven't finished it, but I love when you all talk about the "Cruise as Kirk" moment, because I think on another level this is also such a meta film about Cruise, about Hollywood and movie stars, it feels bizarrely one of the most personal Tom Cruise films where he's reiterating: this is where I belong, I belong doing this fucking insane MI series stunts, I'm a movie star, this is my purpose, and like the dude is weird don't get me wrong but he puts 1000 percent of himself into this shit and it shows and God bless him the man is showing us fucking films, not air conditioned green boxes.

Smaug

I agree wholeheartedly, dude's personal life is bizarre and not to my personal liking, but goddamn he knows the kinds of movies he excels at and he does an amazing job of producing films for us

Stan Engle

I think I read somewhere that the only other country that had F-14s is Iran... so it's probably Iran.

StevieWayne16

Well, there's just no reason in this day and age for ignorance. Tom Cruise helps lead (Yes LEAD) an organization that is continuously responsible for physical abuse and SA, murder and bullying to the point of people unaliving themselves. This is not a joke or "personal beliefs". These are current actions that this man supports. He supports human suffering. Every time people pay to watch new movies that star a Scientologist, they're telling Hollywood "we will still pay you to hire these people". And every time.... EVERY TIME they pay a scientologist, they're literally funding the "COS".

Beatrix

I got super high and watched this film in the theaters. A great and giggly experience. Lots of fun and super cheesy. Glad to hear about it on the pod! ☝️💙

Tom Day

Good episode 👍👍👍

Ajax

requel

Alan Tuszynski

“Maybe you have a nice penis” and “call you HUNGman.” Looking like 2023 will be a hall of fame year for Cabin and Eric.

Nathan Foley

Every time that loud bell sound rings out in the score I have this pavlovian expectation that The Undertaker is about to show up.

Eren Keskin

The enemy pilot that pulled off that sick move was using a Sukhoi Su-57. It's a Russian plane

Tristan

great ep.. so is gaga hold my hand
